Who do we need to cheer for, from here on out for us to get to the CCG?

Michigan - can give Northwestern a loss and pretty much nail shut Minnesota's coffin.

Nebraska/Northwestern - needs to beat Wisconsin, given how easy Wisconsin's schedule is. Essentially eliminating them if a loss to either.

MSU - will give Nebraska a loss. Essentially eliminating them.

PSU - to tack on another loss to Northwestern.

We might be in pretty good shape, and with a little margin for error if this goes down the way I hope.

Would the Rose Bowl take a 11-1 MSU over lets say a 11-2 Iowa who loses in the CCG?

It's still too early for me to worry too much about who needs to win other games. Personally, I'll expect us to keep winning (until we don't, lol) and therefore have no rooting interests to worry about. I'll personally hope for most of the West division to do well (maybe even beat?) their crossover opponents, as our SOS could use a boost. Assuming we can beat Northwestern, it would look good if both they Wisconsin are ranked at the end of the year. Since the rest of our division looks to stay unranked for all or most of the season, I'll be thinking along those terms.

If/when we lose a game, I'll then re-examine things and see if there are rooting interests that will help us. In the mean time, I'll enjoy the wins and not stress too much about how the rest of the division is going. I think there are so many good games to be played within the West this year, and it'll be more fun to watch them if I don't bring a vested interest into each game.

Nobody; we control our own destiny. I'd prefer none of the remaining teams lose again before they play the Hawks (I know that's not possible); otherwise we will be seen as the best of a group of bad teams.

Assuming MSU loses to a #1 OSU and Iowa has that same loss to OSU plus another loss, then I'd say yes. Oregon will still likely be a bigger non-con win than we'll have, and MSU will have a victory over a ranked Michigan team on the road, which I expect would be as good or better than our win at Wisconsin. If you factor in a possible win by us over a good Northwestern club, then I think our schedules could be a wash. Then it comes down to record (which they'd have an advantage in this scenario), and national opinion. MSU has a much higher national profile right now, and would certainly be ranked higher than us going into bowl season.

Right, but the optimism is part of the fun. Or course we control our own destiny, and its early, and so on..........but lets just pretend for a minute. Also, history tells us we wont win out. So its natural to start looking at the competition and how we need them to lose.

So there is no BIG 10 law or ruling that would help us? Based on records or division championships?

OK then, we cheer for the teams that have the most losses. if everybody in the west goes 4-4 in conference but us, we probably win.

Seeing how MSU is slipping in the AP, my feeling as of today, with the goal as the Rose Bowl, is that we need Michigan and MSU to drop some games, and OSU to go unbeaten.

The big 6 bowls under the new playoff system are all assigned by the committee. They have some rules to follow (including filling the Rose with a B1G team if we send somebody to the playoff), but I don't think there is any obligation to go with a championship game loser. See Wisconsin last year for the best example from the B1G. Granted, they had a 10-3 record, not 11-2, but I think the precedent of choosing MSU over Wisconsin would hold true this year.

I know this isn't the point of the thread, but I prefer NW and Wisconsin do well, to give us better wins on our "resume"

We may need them, based on Michigan making a move in the East, and the perception of MSU. Even though I don't think Sparty is that good this year.

God I hope not. This is going to be a good season. And playing in the Cap One Bowl or something like that would be a kick in the balls. I just want ONE freaking Rose Bowl. I am not greedy.

Get out of this thread numb nuts.
Didn't I answer your question? We don't need to cheer for anyone else.

And why save your vitriol for me and not the multiple other posters who said the same thing? You posted a simple question then lash out at the simple answer. I don't get it.

Cause, its getting stupid and it clearly shows no one is reading the posts. Play along, or don't post. Sorry it had to be you, but this is a piss poor answer. Or course its one week at a time, but why cant we look down the road if we want?

Wouldn't saying "win 'em all" be considered looking down the road?

Now if you are talking teams other than Iowa, I would have to say Wisconsin (because we hold the tiebreaker) and Michigan (because they play a couple key B1G West teams and there would be no opportunity to see them until the CCG).

No. What the hell does that have to do with cheering for teams to beat other teams in our division?

The second paragraph is what I was looking for. What the hell kind of contribution is, "win them all"? It ignores the OP, and is literally someone being a doosh bag. Anyone who want to post that answer can do us both a favorite and save the time and energy it takes to type it.

"Win them all" was a response to my post, not the OP. Seems like nitpicking since you didn't say "who other than Iowa".

Oh, I read your entire post. I responded to your subject line as I found the body pointless. I choose not to wring my hands over what our opponents do against each other while my team remains in the driver's seat. You suit yourself.

Post again if Iowa loses a game and these scenarios become a factor and I bet you'll have a more fruitful discussion.

Then don't post. lol

This weekend, I'm pulling for . . .
No brainer: Michigan over Northwestern. Any loss by a West Division contender to an East Division contender is helpful.
Closer call: Wisconsin over Nebraska. Would rather have the Iowa win over Wisconsin be looked upon as a win over a quality opponent. Also, given that Iowa has beaten Wisconsin, it possesses tie-break advantage in a head-to-head. I'd rather see others go down against Wisconsin. For all practical purposes, Iowa has a 1.5 game lead over Wisconsin in the standings.

Wisky/Nebraska is all but an elimination game at this point... I would say root for Nebraska as we own the tie breaker over Wisconsin so a second conference loss hurts them more right now.

Michigan of course to beat Northwestern... Back to back conference losses for them plus a head to head loss would put Iowa in ahead of them...

Penn State over Indiana would be helpful, just to knock their confidence down a peg and give them a second conference loss.

After that any Nebraska loss would give Iowa a two game lead there as long as we handle business against Illinois

That's how I see it

I like how you used the baseball analogy. That was really what I was getting at. I would like to see Iowa with a 2 game lead over Wisconsin and Northwestern going into Nov.

Indiana made(still kind of makes nervous) until last weekend. I just looked at their schedule, I agree PSU has a chance to beat up on them, and they play MSU the weekend before us. They will be good and beat up.

Same with Northwestern. Michigan will at the very least soften them up. If not beat them too.

Edit: Indiana has a bye before us.

Iowa. If they win out I think we got a shot to get there. Ha.

You want Michigan to beat Northwestern unless you are thinking bigger than CCG.

You want Wisconsin as we have a 1 game lead on them and the tie breaker.

I don't know between Purdue and Minnesota. Purdue seems like the logical choice but we play them on the road and Minnesota in Iowa City under the lights. I like our odds against Minnesota better.

Purdue is at home as well.
