Port may have been a onetime state champ but he was a top 50 ranked kid for his class. I think your comparing him to Dennis seems fair though I only hear that he was not a high ranked recruit. Happens from time to time and you just have to smile and be happy you have him when they turn the corner and contribute!
A current guy at PSU, Zack Beitz, may be in that catagory though he placed at states more than a couple of times though. A better comparison is Anthony Cassar who has made nice strides since coming to the program though his best accomplishments have been in FS. It does get your attention when those kind of kids grow into competative kids.
As a number have stated, if B&B don't see something in the kid (Mr. Moody)he wouldn't be coming aboard.
