1A title game

They need a shot clock but lots of scores would have been similar. More and more boys teams are chucking 3’s and it’s difficult to go from chucking 3’s in the gym versus playing in a huge arena with two three point lines.

Someone needs to start a GoFundMe page for Iowa HS basketball to get shot clocks for the poorer school districts... Get this done already!!

Alb was basically in a tough spot because if they tried to play up tempo they would have got ran out of the gym so they basically held the ball for long periods of time as I believe the halftime score was 14-6.

If cost is truly the reason, they need to require shot clocks for the state tournament and all qualifying rounds. Also, allow schools to install and use them. (Once a school got them, they would have to use them. They couldn't decide on the opponent whether to use them.) Don't let the worst schools, financially and athletically, dictate what the others do.

Anyone have a final on the game?
I can't watch it where I live.
Both my sons went there a long time ago.

Costs are not the problem, volunteers appear to be. One company said they’d donate to all schools if they could advertise. Association said no. Saw this on Twitter. To lazy to go back and find it.

If the member schools in the IAHSAA would vote to put in shot clocks, it would happen.

The boy's association is a crap show. No reason Iowa has separate associations for boys and girls. The boys ended up farming out the basketball television to Comcast Chicago, which not everyone can get. Nice work.

They do need a clock in high school ball. It's just not basketball to hold it for minutes at a time.

The girls union is run very well. The fact that their independent is a good thing.

Miss the days when all boys and girls games were on IPTV. Too bad greed took over Iowa High School athletics.
It’s always fun to take tickets for playoffs. $6 tickets is a pain in the ass. Run out of $1

Would love to know what they do with all that money.

Most HS games I go to whether its football, volleyball, basketball etc are $5 each during the regular season. A short 20 years ago it was $2-$3 for adults and students go in free with their student id.

Tyler Endres does not move on offense. Apparently that’s their offense. Born dribble around till he gets open.

Come playoff time in every sport in Iowa charges $6.

Boys need to go back to 3 classes. I know it won't happen, but the talent is watered down. In smaller school districts the kids play 3-4 sports and seldom concentrate on any single one.

Nothing wrong with that. And I'll argue that small school athletes do concentrate on 1 sport while playing several others. Ask college coaches and pro coaches if they want someone who concentrates on one sport vs someone who plays multiple sports.

They should play 3-4 sports. It’s high school
What I'm saying is that the kids playing 3-4 sports aren't playing "club" ball out of season and thus, more often than not, they don't improve their skills as much.

Smaller schools obviously need the more athletic kids to play multiple sports to be somewhat competitive. One season ends and practice for the next sport begins.

We have heard the Iowa football coaches quoted saying they like their linemen being wrestlers.

But you seldom see elite basketball players playing more than one.

There are always exceptions, but small school Iowa high school basketball can be painful to watch, imo. It's one of the negatives of being in a low population State.

My kid does. Plays one club sport pretty much year around then school/rec sports in season, has for 5 years now. They don't have to play club sports to improve their skills either if they are motivated enough especially at younger ages.

Born is really good but he’s also really small. Does he have the foot speed to defend?

Companies have come in and offered to buy and install the shot clocks for all Iowa high schools. The Iowa high school athletic association is a worried about finding qualified people to run the shot clock and game clock at small schools. Also with his shot clock there becomes a lot more timing issues involved and most officials do not want to deal with it.

I know people are upset but I do not believe a shot clock would benefit Iowa high school basketball because you would speed up the game to athletes who are not ready for that and the scores would actually be worse than what they are.

To be clear, I want a shot clock. Seeing as that is t happening anytime soon, it would be nice to put it in place just for the state tourney. It can even be like 45 seconds. At that level, we’re not worried about teams getting humiliated. Teams that are clearly superior talent wise should not be forced to play defense for 2 mins per possession in the most important games of the season.
