Not could have, should have. That is a terrible missed call. Once they didn't call it, they had to call the foul on Olsen.Olson fouled her no doubt. However that right leg of the screener that tripped her could’ve been called a foul.

The rule states the feet must be within the shoulders on a legal screen. Her feet were well outside the shoulders. Illegal screen, offensive foul. Same type of call in the UConn Iowa game last year and that was called correctly.
Anyone else not impressed with UCLA as a team? They supposedly have some of the best recruits in the nation but outside of Betts and Rice I’m not sure any others on their team are better than what we have. Granted, this is a one game sample for myself.
I thought Betts clearly got a piece of that shot.Oof, her nerves killed the shot, wasn't even close to the hoop.
That settles it.
I knew when Lucy tied it up the refs would call a foulYou called it. Foul on Lucy after she's tripped by the UCLA screener and falls into the UCLA dribbler with 3.8 left. Helluva way to gift the game to UCLA. I posted it yesterday: If Iowa gets just a fair shake from the refs, they win. They didn't, and they didn't. Pretty simple.
Thanks for sharing - she was moving, put out an elbow and extended a leg which tripped Lucy. Should have been an offensive foul on the screener. After hitting PLAY, in the lower right you can make it FULL SCREEN.
Look at the UCLA leg extended.
UCLA was grabbing and holding and shoving her all over the damn court, and not ONE %^%$# foul was called. Betts should have fouled out in the first half. But of course throwing an elbow when you turn to shoot is just fine. No foul there, just when Iowa gets all ball . . . then THAT's a foul, by gawd.McCabe did a lot of standing around today.
No they didn't. Don't call the first foul, then don't call the collision. A no call would have been just fine there. In fact, it would have been fair whereas not making the original call but then making the other one was totally unfair. Not could have, should have. That is a terrible missed call. Once they didn't call it, they had to call the foul on Olsen.
"Put the locks on McCabe" is right, but the way they did it--grabbing, holding, pushing--is illegal. So there's that.*Just didn't shoot well in the 4th. Makeables they couldn't get to go in.
If Lucy is just a little bit more on target today, this ends with a big upset. Played really hard, but was never in that mid-range zone that wins them games. She was just off the whole game.
The last two plays, defense and then offense, were just really unfortunate. Chance to tie or win and they end up with an O'Grady 3pt shot? An airball. Welp. 😐 That's a play I bet they would like to have back. Just about anything else had a chance of a foul, rebound foul, or tip.
Kudos to Lucy for tying the game with three clutch pressure free throws.
Hannah's miss with a minute to go was pretty bad.
Outrebounded in the second half.
They slso put the locks on McCabe.
Hell of an effort to stick right with them though. Thought they could do it. Team has taken some really tough losses.
There isn’t a team in women’s college basketball this year that could play with any of last year’s final four teams and maybe the elite 8…
And yes, I’m a little frustrated and I’m being a little petty… But this South Carolina team couldn’t beat last years, South Carolina team or Iowa. In fact there isn’t a team in college basketball this year that I think could play within 10 points of last years Iowa team.
I thought that team was Notre Dame, and it probably still is but they lost to North Carolina state today.
UConns conference is a ****ing joke. The SEC is the best league but they don’t have any juggernauts. The big 10 is the second best league, depends on who you ask (@littlez 😉 ) maybe the best and they also have no juggernauts. Just because you’re 26 - 1 doesn’t mean you’re ****ing great.
For the first time in history… And I literally mean this, I will be actively rooting against a couple Big Ten teams in the tournament. UCLA & tOSU to start!
I’ll probably be OK with Nebraska & Michigan State by that time… Although that one girl from Michigan State, I just don’t like her look. I know that’s a shitty thing to say but give me some grace. I’m pissed.!!! 😡
Actually, that's not sports . . . it's &*^%$ BIG officiating.think what a win today would have done to Iowa's NCAA Tournament resume.
Oh, well. That's sports, baby.
I told my wife we've been really bad in these situations with little time on the clock to get a good shot off. Still nobody should be comparing first year Jan to Fran.Verdict IMO still out on JJ, The last two plays called from the bench were very concerning
I thought Betts clearly got a piece of that shot.
you realize what themeans, correct?
I feel like the plays drawn up at the end of the game don’t usually work out the way they’re drawn up. Which is why we needed to have all shooters on the floor who can make it from deep.

This reffing is exactly what I was afraid of, and it's the kinda BS that makes basketball such a frustrating thing to watch. You see the injustice right before your eyes, but there's not a damn thing you can do about it . . . kinda like the deal in DC right now.

You’re right Fran is good at those. Game before Dana Altman for Oregon put on a clinic with a couple good sets for easy baskets. It’s funny… I avoid the Iowa men’s basketball board because I don’t hate Fran, I guess I’m just tired of it all. And since I’m a defense first guy, it’s super frustrating watching his teams play. In fact, I rarely watch them play anymore. But I did happen to watch the end of that Washington game, just the end and I did tell my son of all the the things Fran McCaffrey isn’t….he is as good as there is at drawing up in bounds plays… and I mean one of the best of all time… he’s phenomenal at it
I feel the same way sometimes! That’s why I couldn’t resist posting that 😉Thanks for this… That literally made me laugh out loud… In fact, I can’t stop laughing. I needed that.!!!
Can't screen with your leg out like that, planted or not.She didn't move her foot at all. Lucy tripped on it running past the screen.

This angle she moved to trip Lucy. F the officials. After hitting PLAY, in the lower right you can make it FULL SCREEN.
