2022 Recruiting (1 Scholarship Left): Jaxon Kohler & Josh Dix VISITED Sep3, Tyler Nickel Sep17. Aidan Shaw VISITED Jun23. Kyle Filipowski to Duke

Iowa offered Tyler Nickel on June 24, 2020.

He had a huge weekend playing in front of Fran and other coaches.

As I stated above, UNC had 4 coaches watching him.

Tyler has stated he was looking for more offers.

He got one.

Gosh didn't we just secure a commitment from a recruit who liked that we were the first to offer and we stayed with him? (Bowen)

Dasonte is a great recruiting story.

He played one year in High School with Josh Ogundele.

Fran offered on May 10, 2019. IOWA was the FIRST to offer Dasonte.

Dasonte UNOFFICIALLY visited (paid his own way) on Oct 20, 2019.

Tues June 1, 2021 was the first day that official visits could occur in well over a year (because of covid). Instead of visiting a new school, Dasonte took his FIRST OFFICIAL VISIT to Iowa the weekend of Thur June 3 - Sat June-5, 2021.

Dasonte committed 4 days later, on June 9, 2021.

I'm not a fan of Kansas in anyway, but put yourself in the place of a Blueblood. You get mostly top targets, and if you offer a backup too soon you have to slow play them, or risk ending up with a player you didn't really want.

The thing about Kansas is that Bill Self has been charged with THREE Level I NCAA violations, alleging that he was in on the Adidas scheme.

So why does a stud like Aidan even consider them?

Iowa offered SG Kam Craft on April 28, 2021.

He visited Iowa on June 17, 2021.

Couple reminders:
Iowa has 2 scholarships left to hand out. When it comes to Shooting Guards, on June 8, 2021, Tom Kakert forecasted SG Josh Dix to IOWA. So, it will be interesting to see what happens here. The FINAL scholarship will likely go to a forward or center.

In this Jun 22, 2021 interview
he talks about having a great Iowa visit (he likes the Iowa system for a shooter like him). He's looking at visiting NC State, Texas Tech and South Carolina. He's in touch w/ North Carolina & Virginia.

The 2nd video is a reminder of what a great shooter he is.

Iowa offered Kyle Filipowski on June 18, 2020.

He is supposed to be visiting Iowa City the first week in July.

The competition is rather stiff.

We get what appears to be his last visit for the summer? I like where that stands. If we make the final cut and then have him back in the fall for a football game with a great atmosphere...I think that we could be right in the running for his services.

Great scoop Fran!

It’s almost like I just read that literally the post preceding yours.

Keep up the good work!!

It's not really a scoop; it's just an fyi, because Seth was never coming to Iowa.

I was updating the orig post and then I posted the update on Trimble. Then I moved on. I now see Obtuse Triangle posted the same thing just a few moments prior. It's strange how trolls like him suddenly appear out of nowhere. Any way, I think you would agree that he should delete his duplicate post . ;)

Iowa offered Tarris Reed on Oct 14, 2020.

Tarris goes to the same High School as Tyler Cook. I was hoping this connection would pay dividends.

I am sick of seeing the Buckeyes after everybody Fran is after. Tarris has also visited Purdue & Michigan State.

Iowa offered Josh Dix on April 21, 2021.

This is from yesterday.

42 inch max vertical? ;)

Check this out & watch:

Sooo, I LOVE this not solely based on the display of his athletic ability...but the aggressiveness/confidence and assertiveness that goes with it. When you combine skill, athletic ability, and that aggressive confidence it seems like you are in business. I have been interested in Craft and Schutt (implication of being better players) and thought that they had more national recognition....but what I am seeing from this kid I am starting to be a believer that he is as good or better than those two.....

I'll take Dix, Aligbe, Shaw & Filipowski but I'm not sure we can make enough room to fit them all in with full rides. There's a lot to like about most of these prospects and I hope we get the guys that want to be Hawkeyes at the end of the day.

We just need to see Dix make 17 three pointers in a game like Schutt did ;)

The odds are pretty good that Dix will take 1 of the 2 remaining scholarships.

Question: why is Fran targeting a big man in 2022 with Mulvey already in the fold and coming in next year, as well as Ogundele who should be a contributor within a couple of years? He seems to really like Wessler, but Wessler looks a lot like Mulvey, and we need to be done with the two big lineups… unless Fran really isn’t confident in JO

If it’s me, I take a SG (Dix/Kraft), a wing or forward (Filipowski/Shaw/Reed/Aligbe/Nickel) and then roll over that last scholarship to the next class unless you can get two of the aforementioned guys

This

Will JO stick around with the ND transfer, Murray, and Mulvey on the roster

In the minutes minutes I saw JO play, he looks d lost especially on defense

Cheering for JO and hope he proves me wrong

Besides Kyle Filipowski, Fran is watching several other players at the NEPSAC Showcase this weekend.

Iowa offered 2023 T.J. Power on Aug 27, 2020.

Dasonte Bowen (2022 PG Commit), Reed Bailey (2022 PF, who Iowa offered), Alex Karaban (2022 SF who Iowa offered) and Taylor Bowen (2023 SF) all play on the same AAU team (Expressions Elite).

Kirk Speraw is at the Ridgewood Live Basketball Shootout.

He is there to watch:

* 2022 Shooting Guard Jaden Schutt, who Iowa offered on June 17, 2020.

* 2023 Center Owen Freeman, who Iowa offered on June 1, 2021.

* 2023 Shooting Guard Cam Christie, who Iowa offered on June 15, 2021.

As you can see, a coach from Michigan State is there watching as well.

Iowa offered 2022 Shooting Guard Jaden Schutt over a year ago, on June 17, 2020. He took an Unofficial Visit on June 21, 2021.

Kirk Speraw is at the Ridgewood Live Basketball Shootout to watch him and:

* 2023 Center Owen Freeman, who Iowa offered on June 1, 2021.

* 2023 Shooting Guard Cam Christie, who Iowa offered on June 15, 2021.

As you can see, he is a HIGH PRIORITY for Michigan State. Izzo was there watching for a 2nd straight day.

Brad Underwood does not want to lose this Illinois native; he was there watching.

And Jaden Impressed. Again.

More of Jaden Schutt.

Those watching Kyle Filipowski this weekend:

Duke’s Jon Scheyer,
Indiana’s Mike Woodson,
Iowa’s Fran McCaffery,
North Carolina’s Hubert Davis,
UConn’s Dan Hurley,
Virginia’s Tony Bennett,
Michigan’s Juwan Howard,
Notre Dame’s Mike Brey,
Rutgers’ Steve Pikiell,
UCLA’s Darren Savino,
Syracuse’s Gerry McNamara
Ohio State’s Ryan Pedon

Kyle takes his official visit to Duke tomorrow.

After Duke, Filipowski will head to Iowa for his last summer visit.

Filipowski has already taken officials to Syracuse, Ohio State and Indiana and unofficials to Northwestern and UConn.

According to his coach, he’s definitely going to take fall visits, so his recruitment will keep going into the fall at least.
