2024 Recruiting. Orig Post Updated Oct 2nd. 36 Offers So Far (incl. Chris Tadjo & Cooper Koch). 2 Scholarships Available (NOT counting PMac & Tony)

Will Diggs pull the trigger for the Hawks?

With 2 crystal balls now, it's definitely trending that way.

We're slightly behind the Class of 2023 as far as getting commitments.

When the Class of 2023 committed:

Oct 11, 2021: Owen Freeman
June 23, 2022: Brock Harding
Aug 6, 2022: Pryce Sandfort
Nov 16, 2022: Ladji Dembele

Who's the comp for the Diggs kid?

Devyn Marble and the Murray twins.

Some excerpts from a recent article:

“My visit to Iowa was really good. They made me feel comfortable, I got to meet the guys and it was really exciting. While on the visit they gave the message that they want a versatile wing and are looking for me to go there.”

Diggs continued:
“They compared me to Devyn Marble and the Murray’s. They see me being able to score and get myself involved in the offense in different ways.”

Closest Iowa comp would be a slightly bigger Dev Marble. That apparently who Fran used in his visit to show Diggs film of how he would fit.
Probably not as good of ball handling as Dev. And like early years of Dev, Diggs is not considered a good 3 point shooter at this point and is more of a slashing guard/forward who is a good defender.

New name to keep an eye on: Amdy Ndiaye, a 6-10 big man out of Long Island. He was originally in the 2023 class, but it looks like he will reclassify into the 2024 class. Iowa has been involved since early this year.
Where are u hearing that from not seeing any Iowa involvement around Google at least. Not doubting u just wish to learn more about him.

Sign me up for versatile players who are good defenders.

I think it's interesting right now that the top targets they are going after are all considered athletic, good defenders and their biggest question marks are shooting abilities. Diggs, Compton, TJ Williams, and Johnson-Arigu all have a similar profile (even if they play different positions). Pairing these guys with an elite shooter in Koch makes a ton of sense IMO and makes me hopeful that Fran is adjusting the types of recruits they go after.

Agreed. Even the 2023 class seems to have guys who play on both ends of the court.

Yeah, Freeman and Dembele are very good defenders imo
I hope so. The little I played, I was always taught that you can play tough defense every game, even almost every play, but offense will sometimes just not click, especially if the other team plays you tough. You need to score points to win, but most fans undervalue guys who keep the other teams from scoring. Effort, teamwork, and rebounding are a key part of that. Fran has been mediocre at best putting a tough defense on the court (the Woody/Gesell team might be the exception).

Have read several articles that Caden Diggs was committing before the end of summer (August). With only three schollies to give, will Fran stll bring in Williams and Johnson-Arigu in for a visit if he commits.

That's a good question.

There's a ton of moving parts. 3 scholarships are available right now. How they could be distributed:

* Looks like this will be PMac's last year.
* Tony could use his free covid year which takes us to 2.
* If Caden Diggs commits, we're down to 1.
* There likely is an early departure, which puts us back to 2. Does Fran earmark ONE of these 2 for a HS kid and the other for a transfer?

We obviously don't know what Fran is thinking but imo, in the end, I wonder if It will be EITHER Diggs OR Williams; not sure Fran would take both. We'll see.

I think they can bank on having at least 1 departure after the year--just about every team already does this. Like if Riley Mulvey is still not seeing playing time this season is he really going to stick around for year 4? I'm doubtful of that.
There's lots of teams that "over-recruit" by a spot or 2, including some Big Ten teams. Wisconsin for example has a full roster right now, only Tyler Wahl's eligibility runs out this year and already has 2 commits and are heavily pursuing 2 more. If they were to get all 4 of those recruits, they are going to have to have some guys not take their covid years/transfer out.

Haven't heard anything about Mulvey. If he doesn't earn a spot in the regular rotation, he seems like an almost certain transfer. Another transfer out, depending on how the season plays out, would not be unexpected. I hope Fran grabs his top targets, if they want to commit, even if he has to assume at least one guy leaving, in addition to Patrick and Tony. Having too many guys wanting to come would be a nice problem...

Just a gut feeling, but I'm hoping we get Johnson-Arigu. I get Maishe Dailey vibes from either Diggs or Johnson-Arigu, and I think it's Diggs.

It is interesting that another site is reporting Williams and Johnson-Aregu visiting in September but this site, crickets.

Johnson-Arigbu visiting on September 2, TJ Williams on the 8th.

I think we still have a great shot at landing Caden Diggs based on the 2 crystal balls.

Hopefully all 3 of these other prospects make their September official visits. Sep 30 is a long ways away for Pharaoh Compton and can we finally compete with schools like LSU, Tennessee & San Diego State in terms of what they are offering for NIL? We'll see....

Good list of prospects coming in next month. Still hope Diggs pulls the trigger for the Hawks and we can get one more. Compton looks like a heck of a power forward but doubt he takes all his visits. Yes September 30 is a long ways off.

I've read Campton has fallen a bit in some rankings. Might not be as big of a priority for some the schools he visits. Pure speculation on my part. But that's usually how it goes.

Has Diggs set up any visits yet? To Seton Hall or Okie State. Haven't read any new information on his recruiting anywhere.

Bryson hardly ever gives interviews, but he's been consistent about Iowa being in his top group. He doesn't play AAU and like I said, he rarely gives interviews so most recruiting agencies don't even track him.
Take it with a heavy, heavy grain of salt. But I go on a lot of Big Ten boards to follow their basketball recruiting. This spring, someone on a Maryland board asked about Tucker's recruitment and the Maryland beat writer (who happens to be the same writer who has a CB in for Caden Diggs to Iowa on TOS) said that he had heard Iowa and Michigan St were the 2 options if he were to go to college. Again, just something to monitor. I won't be getting my hopes up unless he schedules a visit.

Great find.

Man, would Bryson be a good get.

Iowa is the spot for you, Bryson. Freedom, pace, and space for days. All of your all-around game will be utilized, showcased, and developed

Always the bridesmaid. I doubt he visits. Everything I've read, he has been a strong Sparty lean for quite awhile.

I like the kids we have visiting. All athletic and long. Any two to go along with Cooper would be great. I think I read somewhere that Diggs has a commitment timeline.

I have not read anywhere that he has set up any other visits.

Caden Diggs had mentioned in a late June interview that he was going to try and set up visits to Seton Hall and Oklahoma State then make a late August decision. Checked both of their recruiting sites today and it shows no visits for Diggs, up to this point. Seton Hall got a 4* and 3* Sf last year. They had four visitors in late July, one was a 4* SF and a 4* PF. Okie State has no visitors scheduled
