2025-26 Roster - Update Tracker

My guess at the depth chart currently

1 - Stirtz
2 - Transfer/Combs
3 - Koch/Howard (assuming we get him)
4 - Banks (assuming we get him)/Transfer
5 - Transfer/Manyawu

I think McCollum wanted to lock in the Drake guys so we know we’ll have a team but he’s smart enough to realize we’ll need more to compete. He also doesn’t go very deep into the bench so we’re really looking at 8 or 9 contributors.

I watched all the drake players that are coming highlights.

Man howard has some bounce! I'm excited about him the most. If he can continue to develop shot. We got a good one( yes I'm assuming he is coming). Athletic enough to play the 2 also

Everyone else is just solid from what I've seen. Hustlers!

So glad we finally have a coach that likes to sticks with his best 5/6….a program like Iowa will never be able to go 8-10 deep with athletic players which was Dr.Tom’s downfall IMHO…😉

Howard was a mega scorer at his small high school. Over 3000 points in his career. I think he was originally an NDSU commit before Drake.

Anyway, he really bought into his role at Drake which wasn’t really scoring at all. He was in a Nicolas Baer-type role. He’s always the dude tipping passes, getting on the ground, scrapping for a board. Almost to a fault because he was foul prone.

But he’s got enough athleticism and scoring acumen that he has a very high ceiling.

Not sure how Dr. Tom was supposed to have full-court pressed all game using 5-6 players
Dr Toms downfall was nearly yearly NCAA births , Usually getting to the field of 32 and multiple sweet 16s and an elite 8 . People have revisionist History that He was not one of the most successful Iowa BB Coaches of all time and was just adored by the Players and Fans and games were packed. because for 40 minutes win of lose Iowa played hard and never quit. If BM brings that maybe Iowa BB will become relevant again

It sounds like BM will adapt his game plan to what his roster dictates…not a Dr Tom hater, but at times it was painful to see some players on the court in order to fulfill his full court press strategy. 😎. Let’s face it, we were by no means ‘40 minutes of hell’. 😉

7 or 8 minutes of hell from Dr. Tom's group was enough for George Washington.

You and my wife have such high expectations!

As I recall it we would pressure the inbounds pass heavily, but if the other team got it in, then we'd do an easy jog back down court and fall back into that packed-in 1-2-2 zone. Which was good for rebounding.

Multiple Sweet 16s = first two years with Ravelings players and then his final season after he had already been let go. Making it to the tournament by feasting on a weak non-conference and playing middle of the pack ball in the B1G.

He was 125-105 in the B1G, but 99-95 after the first two years.

That he can be considered "one of the most successful Iowa BB Coaches of all time" shows just how average Iowa basketball is as a program historically. Played hard and never quit but never adjusted his style of play to his players. Running the press with no talent on the team = 80-98, 71-118, 80-102, 85-118, 96-127.

He was Fran McCaffery before Fran was. Only difference is Tom had two great seasons to start, and Fran had two bad seasons to start, and Tom could win first round tournament games.

Fran was 143-141 in the B1G, but 131-117 after his first two seasons.

Coaches are only really measured by how they do in March and Fran is not even in the same universe as Dr Tom, Dr Tom Iowa Teams . 9/13 Seasons He made the NCAAs and never lost in the first round and 2 Sweet 16s and an elite 8 in 13 Years is doing work at a non blue blood BB school

Yeah but there was a lot of mileage gotten out of the press. Many of the strengths of the program were due to the press, or at least the system, which the press was a big part of.

For better and for worse, Davis was a system coach. So the thought of playing 5-6 guys isn't realistic, nor is the complaint that he played too many guys

Roster has been updated with the Howard commitment. Welcome to the Hawk's Nest Isaia.

Edit: took Dix off the list.
