26 UI student-athletes are being investigated for online gambling, incl in Wrestling, Men’s Basketball, Football, Baseball, Men’s track & field

Ferentz's tirade against the NCAA regarding Shannon likely cost him. Just unnecessary when the kid broke a rule.

You think the NCAA committee is making rules based on what a football coach said?

I've not generally defended the athletes in this case. They knew the rules. They broke them. But for the NCAA to say they are reconsidering, allowing all of them to practice for weeks (a month for Noah Shannon), then pulling the plug is ridiculous.

rules? no

Punishment and enforcement? ABSOLUTELY

Potato, potatoe. The part of the rule that lays out the punishment. Whatever.

I don't know what he said exactly, but it's KF so I have trouble believing they were fighting words. Just doesn't pass the sniff test, regardless of what he said. Sorry.

Dude. If you’ve ever met any of these guys, you’d understand. They’re just as sensitive and insecure as you can think of.

Absolutely still believe in some archaic, intrinsic beauty that the NCAA is supposed to be.

They feel like they can’t make anyone happy - and are hardened that they are just doing their jobs. No different than cops to a certain degree - they’re jaded by all the complaints and fights. And when they get the chance to hammer someone?

They’ll do everything they can to do it.

And don’t forget to take into account they have ‘bosses’ - just as petty as you can think - if a group of schools can see punishments coming - they want it to happen

My understanding from compliance is that while there won't be a death sentence for the guys involved, they are all going to lose this year with no chance of saving the year of eligibility. In a nutshell, the seniors are done.
That sounds like a death sentence to me. Telling half the guys involved they are done with college wrestling is absolutely a death sentence. What could be worse for them?

You heard this today? Or is that old news? Are you referencing the very latest that is supposed to come out on November 8?

Really unfortunate but we can still put together a solid team with Kennedy taking over at 174, AJ at 197, and Kueter at Heavy. Cass will be the biggest point loss at NCAAs.

The NCAA is a HUGE corporation that has been anointed the governing body of Collegiate sports...and most of the time they sit back and just collect revenue and they seem to fill any important positions with their friends and family members it is a real Good Old Boys club. I accidently had a luncheon with an NCAA Compliance attorney , he was a friend of my college roommate and after we talked about where we were each living he made the statement to me that NIL was basically out of their control because of the legalities involved and the NCAA wasn't happy about losing control of it. He also said " the biggest offenders in that grey area before NIL was SEC Football schools and PSU Wrestling". He said that those programs involved were lightyears ahead of the other schools when it came to questionable spending practices and the NCAA looked into it and it was already too big and widespread that many other schools were already starting that direction . I guess they decided that if they couldn't control the spending they would try to regulate it and of course...PROFIT from it. The only power the NCAA has is granted to them by the Institutions that are member schools. I think a long look needs to happen at the NCAA itself and PLEASE have them be accountable for EQUITY in sports.

Could we please have the committee members also investigated so we know that they are coming to this table with clean hands?
Unfortunately they are a non regulated entity like the DNR and the Railroads, unless they get dragged into court.

Do we know who is on the committee?

There close association with NCAA athletics should prohibit them from any gambling on college or pro events that have a NCAA championship.

Wasn’t Kennedy one of the guys who will lose a year?

Siebrecht, Brands, Assad, Cass were the full year guys, Kennedy/Schriever were the partials IIRC.

That's right, I forgot about the partials with Kennedy and Schriever

Now we know how the investigation went in Iowa. 49 more to go. Check that, I don’t know that gambling is legal in every other state like it is in IA. So maybe not 49 to go. Ha.
