Alex Thomsen .... room now

.....so unless I'm still missing something Thomsen is in fact considering Iowa based on him telling Andy Hamilton in an interview that he was. Gotta love people throwing things at the wall, and seeing if they stick. What does someone get out of looking like they have inside info on a message board anyway?

I encourage anyone who doesn't want Thompson to go to Flo and watch his videos. Then say you don't want him. No kid is sure fire going from High School to College. I am sure the same people that don't like Thompson didn't like Sorenson. Other than size, they look the same to me; same style, etc. I think if he goes to Iowa, he flourishes, not so sure if he goes somewhere else.

For every Mario Mason there is a Jesse Delgado. Trust the coach!!!!

1. Thomsen said in an interview that he likes the way Penn State wrestles, which some took to mean he has no interest in Iowa, and which others probably took to mean "Plllltttt."
2. Not sure Iowa has that much reciprocal interest in him, given that we need to focus our limited money on bigger blue-chip guys like Warner and Berge, who are both ranked #1 at their respective weights by Flo; Thomsen, despite a slick style that I personally love, is ranked #10 @ 126. If we're willing to put more money into 133 we could offer Mejia more--he's ranked #3, after all--or pursue Murin, who is #5.

you want to give this Murin more money because hes "ranked" higher?

I don't think anyone is saying then don't want Thomsen. He's just not as big of a need or IMO as talented as Berge 49 and Warner 84/97. Time and $ right now needs to be focused on them. If we land both, there probably won't be much left for Thomsen and regrettably that will be just fine.

Thanks for sharing. Total domination by Thomsen over Murin. In my opinion Alex will be ranked #1 or #2 at his weight class by the time he enters his senior year. Kid has a great work ethic to go along with excellent technique from his feet. Enjoyed watching him destroy West at state and toy with Murin in freestyle. Will be very surprised if Alex doesn't excel at the collegiate level and compete for a national title......really would like to see him in a Hawk singlet.

Murin did just finish 3rd at UWW Cadets. Thomsen failed to place in the same bracket

Interesting... Cons. Round 6 - Keaton Geerts (Iowa) won by decision over Alex Thomsen (Iowa) (Dec 7-3)

Could be a size deal, Thomsen going 126 at Fargo - Geerts 132

Did you really Alex's style to Sorenson? That's like saying Ian Miller and Tony Nelson have the same style.

Thompsen throws the kitchen sink. He has a huge double, sweep single, dirty ducks and he's great with body locks.

Sorenson-outside single and I've seen him score on two high cs in his career.

Maybe my opinion is based on the "Iowa" factor, but I've lived in MO now for 10 years. Still go back to the IA state tourney each year. Thomsen's freshman season he caught our eyes early (dad, brother, we make the trek together). Was amazed at the chain wrestling, and then to beat West the returning state champ. We thought he looked as good as anyone that year. Yes anyone!
This past year, looking forward again to watching him. This time, if I remember correctly, tech falled West or was it a major.?
He's a goer, smooth, attacks, and chains combo's,
The same ones saying there's a bias because he's from Iowa .... so you don't want Nelson than either, right?

That article is a year old, slappy. Things change. And we're still a year away from colleges being able to offer. Things can very well change again.

Tell me you're not comparing a high school kid to a college kid (let alone a 2 time AA).

What are you talking about? I said style. As in how they score their points and what their offense consists of.

Ex- Hey, that twelve year old has a great cross over. He reminds me of Iverson. Pretty common.

I hope you understand that "style" suddenly changes as the competition gets tougher. If you think BS wasn't hitting every move in the book when he was a HS soph you're kidding yourself. Easy to do when you're so much more talented than the other guy on the mat. Any comparison between the two is almost irrelevant, IMHO.

Here's sorenson's sophomore year national final. His style is pretty consistent to how it is now. He's a grinder. Always has been always will be.

Here's Alex's cadet final match.

I don't know how anyone could watch that and say their styles are comparible. I'm not saying in hs Thompsen is better or he'll have a better college career. I'm just stating the obvious that they are not or will ever be alike.

I couldn't agree more, but you contradict your point from the beginning of this thread where you said Thomsen to Iowa wasn't happening. It may, or may not happen. I have no clue, and neither do you.

I don't think that'll be a problem for him. There's lots of guys better at free than folk. Ex-McKee
I suppose so. But if you want to go to College in the U.S.A. and get paid while doing it......................... better keep your Folkstyle skills sharp.

One would need a time machine to meet your standard. Ya never know but unless something significant changes, he will attend elsewhere.

I like the kid and would love to have him at Iowa but I don't see him as a super blue chipper.

You may be right here. Last summer, I would have said no doubt in my mind blue chipper. He was beating all the studs and scoring tons of points. He has two major problems. He has zero workout partners at his club of his Hs. Although he does have a top notch coach you need good workout problems. There are other clubs with kids that can push him but he stays at swift. Another thing in high level folkstyle matches that hurts him he is poor on bottom.

He's had a very poor spring(for his standards). He lost to Gilva from minny(a kid from NE smoked him at JD-that Same Ne kid lost to Jack Wagner this year) One of the twins from Missouri, and Geerts. These are good kids but far from blue chippers. Before they spring I would have assumed he would tech( in fs) all these guys. Signs show he's regressing. He could be able to put all that behind him at Fargo. He'll be facing much better guys than listed above.

"Super blue chipper?" I'd say Iowa has some other non-super blue chippers on their roster. Meaning you don't have to be one for Iowa to recruit you. I guess I'm not following your point.

Agreed. You do seem to be having a problem understanding a pretty basic, straightforward discussion.

Why not? How do you know? We keep hearing all these statements from those supposedly "in the know" yet no one has posted clearly why he won't be coming to Iowa.

Actually it has been stated twice in this thread at least. You might not like it, or might not believe it, and that's totally your prerogative. The internet isn't serious business--take it all with a grain of salt.

.....so in a years time, without a known unofficial visit, or a peep out of Thomsen, his family no longer cares for the Iowa program, but he may still end up at Iowa as things change. No one else backing up your story, or an explanation of how you know. Along with a no chance, chance, back to no chance. He's good, you'd like to see him at Iowa, but he's not a blue chipper. .....and I'm not following the conversation. I'm now officially giving up on the conversation, as again I fail to see an actual point. Sorry.

It was more like there is no chance Thomsen comes to Iowa. Zero, zilch, nada. There is a chance that I am wrong though and he comes to Iowa. How could you not follow that?

There's another poster who's saying the same thing.
And LOL at telling you "how I know." This is a message board not federal court.

I will type this slowly so you can grasp these rather basic concepts:

Based on what I understand, I don't think he's going to be a Hawkeye. But since not even the kid himself has made a college decision yet, nothing is a guarantee.

Also, some are drooling over him in post after post as if this kid is an absolute must get. He's good. He's not elite.

I don't have a dog in the fight, other than that I like Thomsen's go-go slickness and think he has great potential, but he isn't Lee or Teasdale. I don't have an opinion on Murin--have simply seen his name mentioned frequently lately. I AM sad about losing Mejia, as I had him penciled in for a lot of NCAA points at 133.

Thomsen has been the most impressive Iowa high school wrestler I have seen first hand over the last few years. He could excel with our coaches. I don't think anyone is drooling over him though.

What "things changed"? You're claiming Thomsen has taken Iowa out of his consideration. What is your source for this? That's what people have contention with. You're saying Thomsen won't come to Iowa, but not providing any reasoning or source.

So you have no connection to Thomsen or his family? You're just telling us he absolutely won't be a Hawk based on a hunch? That's fine to do, but don't make it sound like you have insider info, if that's not the case.

I don't have to tell you. This isn't a federal case. And there are at least two other posters saying the same thing in case you haven't bothered to notice.
