Alex Thomsen .... room now

I don't have a dog in the fight, other than that I like Thomsen's go-go slickness and think he has great potential, but he isn't Lee or Teasdale. I don't have an opinion on Murin--have simply seen his name mentioned frequently lately. I AM sad about losing Mejia, as I had him penciled in for a lot of NCAA points at 133.
Maybe this will help him come back.

So you have no connection to Thomsen or his family? You're just telling us he absolutely won't be a Hawk based on a hunch? That's fine to do, but don't make it sound like you have insider info, if that's not the case.
It appears you haven't been around here long, unless you have other handles. If not, SPOONER is reliable poster. We've butt heads a couple times over the years, but I respect him and his posts. He is big on accuracy of things put out there by people and about people, and I know he wouldn't offer info if he didn't have a pretty damn good idea of what is going on. Obviously things can change with AT, but I'd listen to what he has to say.

Three people saying it means there is a little smoke to it, if Spooner is giving an absolute that he isn't considering Iowa than it probably is. I can see where people are a little put off by the 'It's true because I said so and I am not going to tell you how I know' approach but to each their own.

I'm in the Spooner camp on this one. Don't see it
To be "real honest", I don't either. If Thomsen, who is better than "good" turns out to be "real good" in the next two years then I believe he will get a full ride with Nebraska. Underwood is only around 75 miles from Lincoln. Family close by. Makes sense to me. I've been wrong before like after I got married and my friends and I had a pool as to how long I'd be married. I picked six years but it has been 45 years.

Could all posters saying we have no shot at Alex please stand up? You guys are letting Spooner take all the bullets.

I'll bite. I live in his area and know some close to him. I've never heard "ABSOLUTELY no chance in hell he's coming to Iowa." I've just heard he's not an Iowa fan and they highly doubt he would go there. He's also from the same small town area as a couple coaches from ISU. I've also heard he has no interest in going there either. They also just signed Parker and Storr who I believe are a step above him right now. Word on the street is Nebraska but their situation could change drastically in the next few years depending on what JB does. I think it's smart for kids to wait to commit. There is no rush and things change. Alex could be a 25lber(doubt it) or a 49. His dad's small and I'm guessing he ends up at 33.

The Penn state thing got taken out of context. I think it was Hager that asked him who he liked to watch and he said something along the lines of "Penn state guys are fun to watch b/c they score lots of points."

If your wife reads this it may not hit 46.

For the record I'm not hung up on whether people believe me or not. It is totally an individual prerogative and it isn't like I've never been wrong before. But the comments have been comical "tell us how you know!" Lol. Yeah...like I'm going to do that.

The Internet is such serious business for some.

publicly giving away your source would be about the quickest way to have them not be your source anymore. BTW...who's your source? asking for a friend.

I don't have to tell you. This isn't a federal case. And there are at least two other posters saying the same thing in case you haven't bothered to notice.

No one's saying you have to tell us, but you're talking as if you've heard from Thomsen directly . I'll take your statements with a grain of salt unless you're going to provide more info. For the record, I don't think Thomsen will attend Iowe either, but I admit I have no info other than what has been officially reported and what I can deduce logically. I just don't see the benefit to posting on a forum making hard-line statements on news without providing any source or even reasoning.

He doesn't need to give out any names. But there is nothing wrong with at least admitting he has a source other than just saying because he said so.

Dude, this is an anonymous internet message board. Take everything with a grain of salt.

Not from the area. Have a farmer friend that lives there. Been there. Had a rundown theater if I remember.

Not a bad area at all. They have a few towns that make up tri center hs. They've just had a lot of kids transfer away. Recently to underwood Alex, his younger brother next year, Baker Etc. There's a couple more. Billy Higgins went to Skutt. The stamp twins(this was along time ago).

I'm not sure why anybody would care that much either way, to be honest. Either he comes to Iowa or he doesn't. Just like every other recruit on the planet, the world keeps spinning regardless.

What your saying is what gets the discussion heated. So, if Lee and Teasdale hadn't of chosen Iowa it wouldn't have been the end of the world.? It would have been nice had they chose the Hawks but, big deal, who cares. More power to the young men and good luck at Penn State or Ohio State. Yea right. Hawk fans care.

Everybody has a different level of "caring". I "care" that the team does well. I don't "care" about every single recruit in the country and whether they come to Iowa or not. When you figure 99% of them go elsewhere, whether we're after them or not, it kind of makes sense, at least to me.

I save my "angst" for when they actually get there and things don't go as well as planned........ ;)

Too each his own of course. There's just far more important things to be upset about, IMO.

Yes, if Lee and Teasdale went to Penn State or Ohio State the world as we know it would end. Seriously?

Spoon or Spooner, I get them mix up all the time. One knows what he is talking about and the other doesn't. The grumpy one is the one that knows what is going on so I take that would be Spooner!:)

This is what I figured was the case. Getting Teasdale and Lee may open his eyes up to wanting to train at Iowa. Losing J&J may make the coaches want Thomsen even more as well. Things change so that is why I was curious about the comments acting like him coming to Iowa was 100% not happening. He's a good recruit at a possible need weight. The coaches may be working harder on keeping the Young Guns pipeline flowing and that is more important than any single Iowa recruit.

Spooner is correct. I will be extremely surprised if he ends up in Iowa City. Not saying he won't end up in Iowa City but I don't like our chances with him. He's a bit more on the slick side and not so much on the brawler side. He is not the prototypical type Hawkeye but neither was Mark Perry and he turned out OK. OK I'm rambling here but I would be surprised he is a Hawk. Sad but true.

Wow Mike you continue to attack me. Gotta tell you I'm not going to lose a any sleep over your comments. I'm sure you don't care what I think but I have spent a TON of time in the room. I also have got know some of the coaches and their families pretty well. Guess I'll never convince u so I'll give up trying. But I might add I have no problem with you..

Spoons, just having a little fun, but if I offended you "I'm sorry". I'm not kidding around too, but I did call Spooner "grumpy", you had to get a kick out of that?

We end up with posters like MikeyT when you recognize that Iowa wrestling is the envy of many. If you doubt me... visit other forums and see. Specifically with MikeyT, there are, MAYBE, three OSU posters who can be even remotely objective on that forum. The balance are Smith bootlickers.

As a visitor, one would think he refrains from personal attacks. Apologizing, after the fact, is weak. Guess he figures that since he has been to Iowa for a collegiate wrestling event... he has cred. Nope!

So, you are saying there is a caste system here on this public board?

If a topic has a"vote" option, should the visiting schools' posters be given a whole vote or maybe just 3/5ths?

We're all visitors here, imo.

Mike T is hardly a "visitor" to this site. Fans from other schools is what makes this board as great as it is!

I don't always agree with him, but we need people to argue with!
True to a point! I am referring to the issue of whether "attacks" from posters of other forums will be treated the same as the normal back and forth between Hawkeye fans ribbing each other. We can debate whether he adds anything to this forum or whether he is a friendly troll.;)
