Are either, or both, of Fran's boys considered the best HS players in Iowa?

I don't follow HS that much, but I do know they are good. I just don't know how they rank in state?

Conner in the 2017 class.
Wieskamp in the 2018 class.
Patrick in the 2019 class.

In terms of nationally, Rivals has them 112, 43, 60. In their classes of course.

Probably worth noting the state hasn't had a high school kid finish in Rivals top 150 (they change throughout high school and so expect those ranking listed to change) since Adam Woodbury. Who finished at 50 if I recall.

Wieskamp might end up being the best of the three.

I am still curious if Connor will be able to give college baseball a shot.

Wieskamp will definitely be the best of the three in my opinion.

I am not as high in Patrick as some of the national guys. I question whether he will ever be able to put on weight and I am not sure what his position is. He turns 17 as a sophomore this week. I don't know if that is health related or just genetics. Connor was much more filled out at that age.

Or I could be way off.

I believe Patricks issue with gaining weight has more to do with his cancer. I believe he had Thyroid cancer, and gaining weight might be an issue for him. Also the fact that he's grown about 6 inches in the last year and a half make it hard for any teenager. Although he's older for his class, he has almost 2 1/2 years before he'll be joining the team, so he's got a lot of time to develop, on and off the court.

Just for points of interest, Harrison Barnes and Marcus Paige, were ranked #1 and #34 nationally in 2010 and 2012. Both became Tarheels, unfortunately.

Correct, did Connor move out of top 100 for rivals, he was 91? I believe ESPN still has him at 83. ESPN were only sites to have JoBo and Moss as low 4 stars, usually think they are worst at evaluating talent but Moss is a low 4 star and JoBo is a low to middle 4 star IMO.

But didn't know they had any rankings for Patrick just heard he's going to be better than Connor and a possible top 25 or top 50 recruit. Their mom played at Notre Dame .

I swear if people are rough on Patrick on this board after he's had a bad game, After all he's been through I will lose it and mods might have to kick me off.
I have a thyroid issue(not cancer) and because of it I'm tired a lot, can't imagine how worn out he gets and will have some bad games maybe due to it. I can't gain weight due to my thyroid since high school gained 5 pounds. So went from 155-160 in 14 years, and I eat like a fat person.

Who was the last truly elite Iowa kid that stayed in state? We all know well the history of the greats that left for kansas or carolina.

The last superstar that I can think of that stayed in state was Davenport North's Ricky Davis. He just oozed with talent during his single season as a Hawk. Unfortunately he was a head case.

Yea, Ricky was crazy athletic. He and my nephew were buddies at North, and he used to hang out some at my Dads house. ( My folks ended up raising my nephew). Ricky knew he was going the one and done route at Iowa. Too bad, a couple more years might have helped his maturity quite a bit.

I think the top senior in the state of Iowa is Connor McCaffery, and he is probaby the favorite to win Mr. Basketball. If he wasn't on a team in which he has to share the ball, he could easily average in the 30s. 6-10 Austin Pfyfe of Waverly is a UNI commit, and some say he is the best.

Joe Wieskamp of Muscatine is probably the best junior in the state, but plays on an otherwise weak team and he is their whole offense. Junior A.J. Green of Cedar Falls is considered by some a top guard.

IC West sophomore wing/forward Patrick McCaffery is over 6-7 and is my pick for the best soph. He has a lot of skills and again, on any other team but West, he would have stats that blow your mind. The point guard from Des Moines North, Tyreke ----- is probably the best soph guard in the state.

The 6-9 or 6-10 Xavier Foster of Oskaloosa is considered the top big man in the freshman class, and is an Iowa lean, but he has a way to go with his skill set. Unfortunately, being so young gives other top basketball colleges plenty of time to try to set up a bond.

If the Hawkeyes can sign the top player in each of those four classes, I think Iowa will be a top tier BIG team for the next six or seven years. I've seen most of these kids play, and while I won't say that any are better than Barnes or Paige, they are awfully good basketball players.

Owen Coburn Soph. from Spirit Lake is 6'10 and mobile. He has along way to go in development but people should watch him because already has good inside moves. Has problems with physical players inside but as he fills out,(210# now,)he will get over that.

I basically just have no thyroid half the days I'm tired for no reason also don't sleep well at night because of it. I'm in good shape but noticed in high school I was always tired didn't think much of it. Had a checkup and blood drawn when I was 23 and told me everything was good but my thyroid and what was wrong with it so I kinda know what Patrick goes through. He most likely won't gain a ton of weight and I bet he gets so much more exhausted from playing than he used too. He's been through a lot luckily they caught it early with him but maybe and I hope it doesn't effect him.
My main thing about the post wasn't to talk about me but I am hoping the fan base understands he had thyroid cancer and that's a bid deal and is still an amazing player! He may have games where he isn't playing well like he's playing tired, well it's because he is. I just will get very angry if fans get on him and I hope our fan base doesn't.

Feel like our fans are better fans than most programs and we have seen where the coaches son gets torn apart by fans due to him being the coaches son I hope we don't, If we rip on Connor and especially Patrick I just would be very disappointed in the fan base. Love the team, love our fans so I hope their isn't a divide when it comes to his kids.

Unfortuantely, as sure as the sun rises in the east, and sets in the west, there will be a contingent of fans who will rip the players for a poor performance, or not meeting their expectations. The Mac boys will be at the front of the line, if their performance isn't all star quality, just as its been for the Ferentz boys. Something I think they understand, but it doesn't make it OK either.

I know the staff has been looking at him. Any word on if Coburn is an Iowa fan?

I thought it was basically a consensus that Weiskamp is the best player in the state by a good margin.

The gaurd from North is intriguing. Not the type of player you often see in Iowa. Is he projected as a p5 prospect?

Iowa City West, is a stacked team for Iowa. The McCaffrey's stats aren't as high as others, because they're sharing it with Lane as well. Seems like they know their individual points don't matter, and they are willing to pass quite a bit. I was impressed with the odunsi kid as well.

I hope the moderators are ready to enforce the rules. I've a feeling things will get pretty ugly and I'll be making some of that ugly right back to dolts who insult young men who are just trying to get a college degree while playing basketball.

Connor has nothing to worry about. He won't be asked to do much and he rarely makes mistakes. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if him and Jordan play together 5-10 mpg.

Instead of criticizing Connors skill set we should probably appreciate the fact that our 8th scoring option is a consensus four star recruit.

Are people really criticising?

People are giving their honest opinion of a high school player they have seen play.

Would it be criticism if the player was an unsigned out of state player?

Hard to tell much from this game.

Has wests coach ever heard of a ball screen? This is painful to watch.

They haven't really opened it up. Really the only they did they went up a few points quickly.

It will be interesting to see what kind of numbers Patrick puts up the next two years now that he will be the guy at West.

Wouldnt be surprised to see Connor and JBo play 15 mins plus together next year. Iowa needs another agressive ball handler in the backcourt. Look at most of the top teams in the country and you see they have 2-3 aggressive ball handlers on the floor. I dont think Connor will score a ton next year but he will be a glue guy kind of like Thomas for Iowa St and will make his teammates around him better including JBo. I think Connor will be an improvement over Jok in most skill sets outside of scoring and it will actually make the team better.

Have you read this board for four years? Hell yes they are, and it's only gonna get worse.

How long until Connor doesn't average 10 ppg and everyone compares him to Little Lick undeservingly?
