Are either, or both, of Fran's boys considered the best HS players in Iowa?

Have you read this board for four years? Hell yes they are, and it's only gonna get worse.
Exactly. Hell Patrick won't even be in college for 2 1/2 years, and some are saying they just don't see him being player deserving that high ranking. It's all based on potencial at this point. How about we let the kid grow up a little.......

Connor will be an excellent player for Iowa. West won their 7th championship tonight over a good Valley team. Connor had 26 points (20 in the second half) and about 15 rebounds, was named captain of the all-tourney team and the 4A MVP.

Do you think Fran would redshirt him??

I think he could be a good player, he will be very similar to Alford at UCLA. He doesn't have the quick release, but he is a solid player and a "coaches kid" who you know is smart. The kid knows the game and knows his abilities. He will not try to do too much and he will be able to play. I am just wondering if Fran maybe redshirts him to give him some time to develop/adjust to the college game.

How long until Connor doesn't average 10 ppg and everyone compares him to Little Lick undeservingly?

That's ridiculous. Little Lick was never half the player Connor is. What was Little Lick ranked? Little Lick was cut from a DIII school after playing major minutes for Iowa under Todd. Any comparison is insane and we will never play someone that bad again.

I cannot think of a worse comp for Connor than Bryce Alford.

Really? I have a buddy who coaches in Eastern Iowa and has coached against Connor's team a lot. Said he is not over athletic, but is very smart. If you remember Bryce at UCLA was getting crap because he was "daddys boy" and people at UCLA were upset. He struggled as a freshman and now as a senior is one of their better players. Bryce went through the ups and downs, but is a damn fine player. Iowa could of used him this year.

My buddy thinks Connor will be the same. He will not be flashy or make much of an impact his first couple of years on campus. Said by the time he is a junior/senior could be a contributor. He is just not overly athletic and to play guard in the Big Ten you have to be somewhat athletic or very crafty to get your points. Bohannon found his nitch (3pt shooting) and he played it very well. He can't get to the lane, so he just shoots 3's. I assume Connor will be very similar.

I've seen Patrick and Connor play at least 10 times in-person this season. They're good.... but Wieskamp is the best player in the state.
Totally wieskamp type of player iowa gets once every 8 years plus he's so athletic saw him do a 360 dunk in the middle of the game. ESPN compared him to Sam Decker but with better hops when they did their top 25 freshman he was 16th.

Theres been some talk of this, as I think Connor said something about it in an earlier interview. I think it all depends how he meshes with the current players in preseason workouts. Lets face it, we all, coaches, players, and fans are in a WIN NOW mindset. If he can help the Hawks backing up the guard positions, especially the point next year, he's going to play next year.

I don't know that Conor Mc and Bryce Alford are exact comps. Different players. McCaffery is much taller, and Alford is a better ballhandler/shooter. But I do understand what you are getting at in that as a junior/senior he will be different than as a newcomer. I do hope people let both McCaffery boys just develop and play without unreasonable expectations. Conor is a legitimate 6-5/6-6 and knows how to play. That can be a winning combination. Patrick McC really has a bright future. The all-around skills he has now at his size is very intriguing. Looks like he is around 6-8 and he can pass, dribble and shoot. By the time he gets to college, it will be fun to see him play at a 3-4 position with that array of skills. And his freshman year it could be he, Wieskamp and Nunge filling out the 2-4 spots or some combination thereof. Yes please.

I swear if people are rough on Patrick on this board after he's had a bad game, After all he's been through I will lose it and mods might have to kick me off.
I have a thyroid issue(not cancer) and because of it I'm tired a lot, can't imagine how worn out he gets and will have some bad games maybe due to it. I can't gain weight due to my thyroid since high school gained 5 pounds. So went from 155-160 in 14 years, and I eat like a fat person.

there are some on here who dont care...Connor & Patrick will be the darlings of bashers'...much in the mode of Woody. Bank on it!

Anyone who has had thyroid issues knows all about the fatigue. Sorry for yours'''but you do know you get little sympathy on the eating issue.

So far ... I have survived cancer 'twice over'. Caught early...great outcomes with surgeries and all. Having two sisters who have died from it...I fully expect it will eventually get me. It is different for someone young...especially kids. Its horrible.

Patrick is a nice young man...hopefully he doesnt get called lazy.

You're right it's rediculous but mark my words, there are some on this board who will not be able to resist.....

I'm aware of the haters who have been waiting for these two to come on campus but I might quit posting and reading the garbage that will be posted. By people who have never played basketball or know the game.

True but you cannot spend your life worrying about people that thrive on trying to make others miserable because they are. They will spend time telling you that a solid gold bar is worthless too. There's a 10% rule in life.

Every player is going to be criticized by someone.

Relax. Its just not that big of a deal.

Stop comparing it to John Lickliter. Thats an absurd comparisin. Lick clearly had zero business being on a big ten bball court. The criticism his dad got for playing him was absolutely warranted.

Im sure some people are going to criticise the McCaffrey boys when they have a bad game. So what? It happens to everyone else too, at every school. Its comes with the territory of having a fan base.

This kind of thought process only applies if you live in the real world. Congrats! You're in!
