***Big Ten Tournament Session II Thread***

Maybe it’s an extreme run of bad luck but a high percentage of Tom’s guys are badly hurt by the end of their career.
IF he is actually hurt it’s no string of bad luck, it’s training. The longer you’re in the room the less near 100% you’ll be at the end.

You are always welcome to meet me and test that theory. I just can’t stand clueless keyboard warriors that have no idea what they are talking about…

But the officials have nothing to call if Ayala isn't shooting either. We all realize he may give up a take down early on in this case, but if it opens up the match it will be worth it. We've now seen the "wait til the end" strategy end up in 2 losses for Iowa and a whole bunch of wins for Deaugistino against a lot of guys.
Honestly, it wouldn’t open anything at all. In fact, they clam up even more so with the lead and a 3 point takedown.

As a very defensive wrestler myself, I am truly speaking from experience. Volume Shooting simply isn’t the answer. Your best bet is a lot of head snaps and level changes to force them to react and maybe get out of position, but you better have a great gas tank because that is very draining and plays right into a super defensive wrestlers wheelhouse…

I hate to agree with him MSU, but sadly I agree with him. And no, I don't want to meet you. :)
@MSU158 entire approach to this discussion is that PSU is a world-historical juggernaut that can’t be beat and we shouldn’t be judging Tom by his ability to compete with them.

I don’t think that sums up who he is as a person or anything but it’s weird that he can’t understand why most Iowa fans don’t want to lower their standards to his.

My posts scream against people that make super negative attacks without knowing what they are talking about or with very incomplete data. Even then, I even say they may be right in some cases but it is often because of reasons they have no idea about or information that comes out later.

After that, I just HATE the fans that immediately look to cast blame after every loss. Iowa has actually wrestled very well today relative to seeds. Ayala lost to a guy he already lost to who has been wrestling in college since Ayala was 2 years old. Rathjen has a knee wrap, lost a super close Match and is still in solid position to wrestle to his seed. Who else has wrestled badly at ALL???

I can say with confidence and 20 years of experience that defending against a guy that’s constantly on the attack and looking to score is the most exhausting thing in wrestling. The only way you can beat a defensive wrestler is to get them out of position. The best way to do that is to snap, level change, make him feel your weight. Aka make him work, make him tired. . You can be on the attack for 7 minutes and only take a few committed attacks.

I did say something similar except today’s wrestlers are better than ever at holding position and Michigan has literally mastered it. Without a top notch gas tank, all that movement is going to be more draining on the aggressor than the defender.

Seriously, watch those Michigan guys. They are the ones fresher in OT and win so many of them. It’s crazy and it IS something that is coached there…
