Brawl in Madison

No excuses for Howard touching the assistant coach but Gard should get something as well. If you watch the entire scene Howard was going through the handshake like and Gard was the one who stopped Howard. I don't care what the reasons were Gard should have let it go, Howard was already at a tipping point and that set him off.

as others have mentioned, this is why I like Fran turning around and sending his team to the locker room

Sorry love Dick Vitale and here's hoping for his throat cancer to go away. But he's wrong on this. If football teams can greet each other after literally trying to knock one another out the whole game, basketball teams can shake hands. I mean at some point, people have to act like adults and stop this idiocy.

Agree

Gard triggered it, did you see the whole thing? Howard was going through the line and Gard stopped Howard. I don't think he's blameless in this.

i honestly don't know what to think other than Howard has a short fuse, it appears

and I can't stand Gard (mostly because he defends Davison)

what do you think the league does?

And in hockey too after the end of a playoff series. The problem isn’t with the handshake line. The problem is with Juwan Howard acting like a PMSing 16-year old.

Howard the Coward should be done for good with college basketball. As if he didn’t disgrace the sport enough during his playing days at Bitchagain.

Absolutely not

Watch the last two minutes of the game.
If Howard is going to press against Wisconsin’s scrubs, gard has every right to take a thirty to rally his troops.

Howard stares daggers at gard for the last minute of the game, trying to elicit a reaction

Howard gets in back of the handshake line so he can beef with gard.

Howard thinks he can throw shade at gard in the handshake line and gard explains to Howard that if he’s going to press his scrubs, gard is going to coach till the end, as well.

Howard can’t handle it.

NONE of this is on gard.

That is in no way worth a suspension. Is Gard supposed to know Howard is going to lose his mind and eventually throw a punch/slap? Wisconsin/Gard are a bunch of dbags but Howard is 100% responsible for everything that transpired

Howard should be gone for the year Diabate (spelling wrong I am sure) should be gone for the year and Davidson being Davidson during the game again should be gone for the year. How the big ten continues to let him get away with this shit every game just baffles me

and how the fook they did a feature on Davison for The Journey i will never know

I think Howard should be suspended for the rest of the season, that's inexcusable for a college coach to hit someone like that. Gard, maybe a game, I think a message needs to be sent to Gard as well for lighting the fuse. Get through the handshake line and get your team to the locker room.

Can't they both get fired? Please???

I'm going to disagree with you on this, Gard should have the presence of mind to get himself and his team through that handshake line and to the locker room. Gard should not be grabbing the opposing coach, who was already livid, and get into Howard like that. I don't care what the motive was, Gard lit the fuse.

Having said that I don't want to sound like I'm belittling what Howard did, what Howard did is beyond stupid and he should be suspended for the rest of the season.

This only a few days removed from Howard getting two techs at Iowa...

....and Holtman absolutely blew up on the refs during the OSU game yesterday.

...and Tom Izzo doing his routine bitch-fest on the officials against Illinois AND then rips into the refs during the post-game press conference.

I wish Fran weren't such a fireball sometimes, but to act like he is any different than most of the other B10 coaches is laughable. Media treats Fran differently simply because he doesn't win enough.

good points.

the double standards are disgusting, for sure.

They don’t have a handshake line in football though. Some players/coaches greet each other, but it’s not an organized affair.

You make some good points. Fran barks and his face turns red but I've never seen him lay a hand on an opposing player or coach.

I would like to know what Howard and Gard said, before the brawl broke out. That would make it easier to affix degrees of blame between the two. Howard looked like he was going to keep walking in the handshake line, but Gard grabbed him and started chewing on him, which was a provocation IMO. Howard clearly lost his cool and needs to be punished (UM's disappointing season might make that easier for their fans to swallow). Still, I have a little different take than most on this thread. Gard called a timeout in a game that was over, and it's hard to come up with a reason except to rub in the loss for UM. Then, Gard seemed to initiate the confrontation in the line. Probably not coincidently, this reminds me a lot of how UW plays on the court--lots or provocation and initiating physical contact, and then the other team ends up coming away with the short end of the call. The B1G needs to get a complete transcript of what was said by the coaches, including the UW assistant, who Howard slapped (no punch) upside the head. I think there should probably be some punishment dished out for both sides.
