Pressing was a stupid move, calling the timeout was the same, however that has nothing to do with this. Keep the handshake line of anything escalates in the line automatic 5 game suspension. The NBA has taken care of brawls with immediate suspensions for players leaving the bench

I doubt he is fired. Hate to say it but being a minority is a big reason why he won't be canned.

Look. I don’t like Gard or Wisconsin but in no way did Gard start that. Every Michigan player and coach was fine until Howard. Looked like Gard was stopping him to explain why he called timeout. The whole situation was caused solely by Howard. It’s not the first time he’s gotten into it with an opposing coach either.
Howard is more at fault than Gard for that timeout. Don’t want a stoppage, don’t have the press on!

I’ll just say again that if Howard thinks that any coach is going to sit back and watch your own scrubs get pressed in a twenty point game, then have the opposing coach express frustration with YOU for calling a timeout to coach your team, you just don’t know how coaches think or operate.
Howard is infinitely more to blame for pressing and fouling in a twenty point game than gard is for taking a timeout.
It wasn’t a punch but it was more than a slap. Guy wasn’t right in his face but the blow was enough to cause his head to whip back. You or I do that to someone on the street, we’re going to jail for simple assault or possibly assault causing injury if we leave a mark.
The Fab Five does not have a good history with late game time-outs.
The more I watch the replay that assistant coach is not blameless either, he was charging after Howard and was being held back by the Michigan players. Granted he didn't deserve to have Howard smack him in the head for it.
If you have to operate on the assumption that other coaches can't act like adults then I would never have my team go through the handshake line as a coach.

No he hasn't hit/slapped someone that we know of but he has embarrassed the university plenty including his 2 game suspension after his melt down post OSU a couple years ago. Lots of trash humans and bad role models as coaches in this league it appears

I agree with you on this 100%, I'm just saying Gard is not blameless in this either. I have no problems with the TO, the counter is if the game was over then why was Michigan pressing? But Howard was over the top pissed off but he was going through the handshake line, let him go, do not re-escalate everything by grabbing him and trying to talk to him. Then the assistant coach comes flying in running his mouth off too, charging at Howard.

The big issue is its not the first time. He had to be restrained from cracking the Maryland coach last season. Fran gets ripped for walking his players off the floor and not shaking hands with Illinois last year. This kind of crap just shows that cooler heads prevailed there and Fran should have been applauded for not letting something like this occur when the two Illini assistants tried to go after him last season....

But if he's not fired I'm guessing it's because of the reg season title and elite 8 he achieved in just his first year.... much better than any of your precious Iowa coaches have been able to accomplish the last 3 decades. My observations:
- Howard (despite others saying the opposite on this thread) did the grabbing of Gard's sweater, Gard seemed to try and negate Howards grab
- Howard pointed his finger aggresively right in Gard's face
- The Wisky asst was jawing with Michigan players/staff but I did not see him come close to touching Howard. Howard just reached across his players and hit the asst coach.
In unison every Big X team needs to forego handshakes with Michigan as long as Howard is there ( if Mary Sue Coleman fails to do the right thing ) Present a united front against coaching assaults...
