Brody Grothus

Here's to 524 posts and 24 pages...and counting!

I don't think we should worry about 40 vs 50 posts per thread and the corresponding 16.25 page requirement. Let's chalk it up to the new SAT score calculations or the new way the unemployment rate is calculated and leave well enough alone.

Let's move forward!

Isn't he Northwestern's 141?

At first I thought Brody was going to wait and go whatever weight Taylor went. Now I will take Burak by major.

Jameson Oster is who Brody will probably debut against if he doesn't go on Tuesday. He might need arm reattachment surgery after Brody gets ahold of him.

Well, looks like it's over for Brody. When's the last time Iowa had a place winner who didn't wrestle during first semester? It could still happen, but he's not on the Midlands roster so chance for success decreasing rapidly.

This isn't true at all.

So if it hasn't happened for awhile at Iowa that's somehow relevant and therefore it's not happening?

I think it's relevant. Kind of like Tom not wrestling true freshmen. It could happen but it's less likely. There's a reason these things don't happen often.

I'd like to see that jpeg by the way.

Be careful, or SanSouci may go out headhunting for you (just like he teaches his 7 year old to do at small town tournaments). Chuck Norris told me SanSouci>>>>Mr. Alton.

We had to pull our 7 y/o out for the year. He's had two cuncussions in three weeks. "The doctor took away my whole life and everything I love, wrestling and wrestling practice." We lost one of the best in the state, boys.

Trampoline and clothesline pole collision playing football. No Iowa dual team, but he has three older brothers that would be willing to do his light work.

That's because there's so little opportunity. Joey Slaton not making the grade 6 years ago has nothing to do with Brody Grothus.

I'm disappointed that Grothus isn't wrestling but Brands has repeatedly said he's not going to push him too fast, and his comments this past week echoed that. Would rather see him forego Midlands and have an extra week of recovery under his belt than to start back one week too early.

And now I'm curious whether any Iowa wrestler has sat out the first half of the season and placed at NCAAs.

Penrith was out the first half of 86-87 season due to academics. Can't find any info on Brinzer. McIlravy was out for several weeks in 96-97 recovering from concussion.

FYI, on Dec. 10th he weighed in at 141 so appears his weight has been on point for a few weeks...that's a good sign....now just get healthy!

I'm thinking about how nice it will be to get home later tonite, especially with all these shopping bags; dang my girls can shop!

Montell Marion. 2010-11. Missed Midlands. His first real match, if I recall correctly, was the PSU dual where he mounted a furious comeback to beat Andrew Alton. Lost in the NCAA semis that year against Russell, after controversial officiating denied him two takedowns. 4th at Nationals. Pretty good precedent.

I thought about Marion but didn't bring him up because I think he was wrestling but not eligible as he worked his way back from permanent suspension.

Just a guessing but I would bet the friday home meet vs Purdue is the first time we see Brody take the mat this season? It just seems like the timing and location match up with how cautious this staff is with our NCAA wildcard. Let him go on the road trips and warm up as if he was going to start for 3 meets then unleash that buzzsaw at home?

If they are truly being cautious that may make more sense than having his 1st match be against Oster who is no world beater but can be a tough leg rider/power half guy. Not an ideal matchup coming off a shoulder injury.

Yes, but he will need matches to qualify a spot for NCAA. Tough matches against Nebraska and Minny afterwards. Relatively easy warm up matches against NW, Wisky and Purdue to get him ready. Hopefully he is ready on the 10th.
