Caitlin ends her Iowa Career with 3,951 Points (NCAA & All-Time "Large School" Record). Megan Gustafson finished at 2,804

The Caitlin Countdown:

Caitlin had 24 points today in Iowa's win over Bowling Green.

2,978: Current Career Points.

27.2 ppg Career Ave in her first 100 Games (thru her junior season)

Milestones, with a projected 26 more games this season:

(1) 425 pts needed to break the Big Ten record of 3,402 (Kelsey Mitchell, Ohio State; 2015-2018; 139 GP; 24.5 ppg)
-----> Looks like she needs roughly 16 more games to do it (27 ppg x 16 games = 432).

(2) 550 pts needed to break the NCAA record of 3,527 (Kelsey Plum, University of Washington; 2014-2017; 139 GP; 25.4 ppg).
-----> Looks like she needs roughly 20 more games to do it (27 ppg x 20 games = 540).

(3) 672 pts needed to break the AIAW record of 3,649 (Lynette Woodard, Kansas University; the AIAW was pre-NCAA; she played from 1978-1981; 139 GP; 26.3 ppg)
-----> Looks like she needs roughly 25 more games to do it (27 ppg x 25 games = 675).

(4) On Nov 12, 2023, Caitlin passed Megan's 2,804 to become Iowa's All Time Leading Scorer.

Iowa is now 8-1 with a projected 26 more games to go this season. NOTE: during the 2022-2023 season (38 games) we played 29 reg season games, 3 B1G tourney games, and 6 NCAA tourney games to get to our final 31-7 record. This season we should expect around 35 games (30 reg season games plus HOPEFULLY AT LEAST 2 B1G tourney games and AT LEAST 3 NCAA tourney games).

Caitlin's 4 year Career Points Projection:
2,717 pts to start the 2023-2024 season (100 Games)
945 projected pts for 2023-2024 (35 games x 27ppg career ave)
..........................................
3,662 Projected Points by end of 2023-2024 season (new NCAA & ALL TIME record)
===================

For GOAT Reference:

2,804 Career Points, Megan Gustafson (#25 in NCAA History)

...........20.8 ppg, 2015-2019, 135 GP

3,649 Career Points, Lynette Woodard (has the AIAW record, which was pre-NCAA; the NCAA took over the administration of women's basketball for the 1981-82 season; the NCAA has treated the AIAW, the first era of organized collegiate women's basketball, as if it never happened; in 4 years and 139 games played at Kansas, from 1978-1981, Lynette was a 4 time All-American and averaged 26.3 points per game; she probably should be considered the current all time D1 and D1 equivalent scoring leader).

So what you are saying is that Iowa needs to tank a few games so we get to play 4 games in B1G tourney? LOL

Caitlin has made it to the royalty section of the career NCAA WBB Scoring list.

The next four names ahead of her (Cheryl Miller [3,018], Chamique Holdsclaw [3,025], Maya Moore [3,036] and Elena Delle Donne [3,039]) collectively won at least one national player of the year award in 10 seasons. Miller, Holdsclaw and Moore each won at least 1 national POY award in 3 seasons. While Griner, Stiles and Plum sit further up the scoring list, they collectively can't match the accolades or greatness of Miller, Holdsclaw and Moore.

Credit also goes to Bluder for keeping the team together. That’s not an easy thing to do when a player on the team generates as much attention as Caitlin does. To the casual observer it may just seem like the CC show, but as fans we know how good the rest of the team is and how much potential is there even when it’s being overshadowed at times. I’m glad Bluder emphasizes a team first culture and genuinely cares about all her players.

I am a big CC fan. However, if you look at her stats, her 3pt percent is not really very good. And she takes a LOT of 3pters. She is a volume shooter, so numbers are inflated to some extent. If Payton took as many shots a game, he would have better stats. His 3pt is better and almost identical percent on 2s. I will give you that CC can get to the hoop on her own much better, tho.
Just my thoughts - I know it may be heresy! LOL

Iowa (10-1) beat Wisconsin (5-4) today 87-65.

Caitlin's Stats:

4-8 (50%) from three
7-11 (63%) from 2 pt range
...................
11-19 (58%) Overall shooting

2-2 (100%) FTs

28 points
9 Rebounds (1 Offensive)
5 Assists

She is now at 3,041 career points.

Guess again. She was 50% today and around 38% for the year from three, Thats more then fine from a volume shooter, and many of hers are under strong defense. During the game Mike Hall said she was 64% from 5ft and farther behind the line. If thats true, thats just crazy good. Maybe she needs to back up more?

That should move CC into the top 10 in all time scoring.

Here's the NCAA scoring list.

The names in BOLD are who she passed today.

Ashley Joens is at 3,060 points (this wiki page with the chart was not updated after last season) Caitlin will need 20 to pass her.

Caitlin is currently 18th in assists with 875. She will need 899 to pass Sam Logic.

That’s a bigger issue. They have refused to recognize all statistical records of all players who played their entire careers in the AIAW era. But they do recognize the All American and other awards won during the AIAW era.

Thank you for the history lesson. I never knew of the AIAW until it was brought up in this thread. It is rare to see Lynette's name mentioned when it comes to talking about all time scoring or all time greats and that's a shame.
