Congrats to iowa st

Nothing to see here. Just the head coach of a men's basketball program hanging out with a billionaire fan of the team at the Kentucky Derby. Also of note: Albaugh owns a racehorse named "cyclone mischief". Probably nothing though.

And before you say: "so what?" - how many coaches of mediocre programs do you see hanging out with billionaires in their free time (i.e. non-booster events)? Name one. I don't see Fran hanging out with billionaires and, not coincidentally, his NIL fund is dogshit.

And lastly - to say a billionaire fan is donating huge amounts to recruiting is not an "extraordinary claim". It happens literally in every big time program. Saying the King of England was caught punching midgets in a bar alley would be an extraordinary claim.

Again, from everything we know Iowa State isn’t even in the upper tier of the big 12 when it comes to NIL. You guys love that picture but Albaugh himself has never supported Iowa State athletics heavily.

KU, and Texas have bigger NIL money than ISU...who else?

It's all relative. We are talking Iowa men's BB NIL vs ISU men's BB NIL.

How do they compare?
Sadly we need to create a third column in standings...
Win. Loss. Nil/wins

In this era it is the only way to fairly evaluate program/coaches performance.

I’m not a Fran fan and not defending him, but Iowa State is bank rolled by a guy with A LOT of money. Iowa has no NIL money for basketball.

$1.2 milloin is what I read for ISU payroll....there are a million Iowa Hawkey fans in the state and Fran can't go out and excite the donor base to come up with more than a small fraction of that money? Raising money is part of the job description. Fran does a great job of raising money for himself.

Lot of Fans of Fran on this website, they ought to be donating some NIL. Yes--I did my part and donated even though I don't think Fran is going to have any more succes in future than what he's done in past which is closer to Meh than great. .

You absolutely have to get the players, and NIL is a huge part of that these days. I hate that part of what college athletics has become. Couple that with the transfer portal, and you can turn a dormant college program into success relatively quickly. Prohm's last season at ISU seems like a distant memory.

TJ was able to turn things around pretty quickly not only because of NIL and the his use of the transfer portal, but also because of his system. HOW they play (defense in particular) is a big part of their success. Finally, remember they lost Tyrese Hunter to Texas because of NIL. I'm guessing Texas offered him NIL $$$ he couldn't turn down. Can't blame TH for leaving.

Exactly. TJ is a very good coach but he needs NIL help.
I suspect losing Hunter to Texas lit a fire under ISU s NIL program.
Even without an NIL program TJ is clearly a dynamic recruiter but with it he can close the deals.

THIS.
I don’t hate the actual ISU teams themselves- BUT there fans are so horrible - I never want them to win at anything.
Iowa fans are horrible too. Let’s be real.

Nebraska fans are the worst of the worst.

I have no problem with Iowa State being successful in basketball. Iowa was once that good in the 1980s. It can be done. Unfortunately, too many Iowa fans are okay with mediocrity because “something something Todd Lickliter.”

Oh, and the fact there are this many Iowa fans crying about Iowa State using NIL when that’s how college sports work now demonstrates just how lame and weak-minded many in the fan base have become. Since NIL and “pay-for-play,” aren’t going away, my suggestion is to either embrace it or stop following college sports. At the very least, quit whining about it.

There is just no way Iowa basketball shouldn't have bunches of NIL dollars being a world famous medical school.
If the means are not there it is possible the fan base has no faith that Fran can deliver with his style of play. Watching Iowa State move on in the NCAA tourney makes me ill that the U of I powers that be accept the mediocrity of our program.

Nobody on this board knows how much either Iowa or ISU have for basketball NIL. Unless your Swarm guy is on here. He would know half of the answer.

Michigan fans are the worst and it's not even close. Followed by ISU.

I like all Iowa teams. Why not? I'm a life-long Hawk fan but can't wait for the athletic department to get a football coach to bring Iowa into the 21st Century.

Being entertained by Drake, Iowa State, Iowa and Northern Iowa mens and womens teams fills a lot of Iowa winter nights.

I can’t believe all these clown fans on our boards.
OP GTFO. Starting a thread about ISU. WTF!
No true Iowa fan ever cheers for the clowns! You’re disgusting if you do and don’t ever come back to our boards!

You're right. No one here knows the exact dollar figures.

Here's what we do know: Brad Heinrichs has very publicly stated that Iowa basketball has little NIL funding because football and women's basketball eat up most of the funds. I dont think I've ever heard Blum make similar sentiments.

Here's what else we know: per online sources, top tier basketball transfers are asking for 6-figure amounts. $20 monthly fan donations, whether it be through Swarm or We Will, aren't coming close to footing that entire cost for an entire team on an annual basis. Schools have to rely on businesses and/or incredibly wealthy donors to come up with the lions share.

Iowa has had much better portal football success than ISU. ISU has had significantly better basketball portal success than Iowa. Therefore, we can adduce that the smaller group of very wealthy donors/businesses are prioritizing Iowa football and ISU basketball.

I wish we had ISU's basketball donor(s) - I'm jealous. But its asinine that ISU fans vehemently reject the idea that the billionaire donor hasn't had any influence in ISU's success. Money talks in this day and age. Of course TJ should get tons of credit, but credit also goes to the super donors paying for the stud transfers.

Coaches hang out with donors to their Universities.

Shocking. Very, very shocking.

If it happens at "every big time" program, how are things any different at ISU than they are at Iowa in this regard? The truth is, ISU struggles to get sufficient NIL money...as do many programs. Wish we had the kind of dough to buy a really good big man for next season...but quite clearly ISU can't afford that. So we'll make do. ISU does not have a NIL advantage over Iowa.

Don’t hate them, and can be happy for the many nice ISU fans I know when they win.

But certainly not rooting for them. No.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Do you have ANY?

Or are you simply making things up and tossing out childish assumptions?
Nope…there are other “insiders” (who I believe) indicate that an Iowa billionaire is helping to finance isu hoops. Nothing wrong with that, good for the clones. Per simple google search…there is only one Iowa billionaire…Harry Stine. I don’t really care if you believe this, or not.
