Cook

I could definitely see him entering the draft without an agent. I'd be shocked if he hired an agent and gave up his eligibility.

Eligible underclassmen can to enter the NBA draft and return to the school if undrafted, and after rule changes made in August 2018, prospects can also now be represented by NBPA-certified agents as long as they request an evaluation from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee.

Minnesota's Amir Coffey is going that route it appears as well. So they now can have agent representation. Go thru the entire process and draft and still return to school.

Players who hire an agent can ask for an evaluation from an NBA committee have until April 11 to ask for an assessment.

Underclassmen have until April 22 to declare.

If Cook isn't invited to the NBA combine, he cannot come back to school if he decides to stay in the draft. That decision would have to be made on May 29. If he is invited, he can stay in the draft and still potentially come back.

Does he stay or does he go? This mock draft has him going in the middle of the 2nd round, but I just don't see it. Does his game translate better at the next level? What am I missing?

You're not missing anything. The reason Cook has interest from the NBA is that athletically he could rebound and defend out to the 3-point line, and can finish near the rim. Many guys have made good NBA careers out of that.

Before everyone says "he can't shoot," "he turns it over too much," "he can't pass out of of the post," stop. You aren't wrong, but he would not be asked to do those things in the NBA (or at least not nearly as often as he has to do it at Iowa. He is one of our 2 best post players, but it also the best on the team at going off the dribble. So he gets put in situations where asked to be a playmaker and not just a finisher.

I have really no idea if he will make it in the NBA or not. My opinion is that he will be given an opportunity to do so. But if he does make it, it won't be because his outside shot got better. It will be for the other reasons I stated above.

Can he though? He missed seemingly 50% of his shots from inside 5' this year and bricked about 10% of his dunk attempts off the back of the rim.

Edit: the rest of your points are completely valid

Selfishly, the advice I would give him would be-come back to Iowa and lead the Big 10 in rebounding. Don't worry about your offensive game, the less you expose yourself the better. Average double figure points by being a monster on the offensive glass. Oh, and also get to being a 75% FT shooter. Then I like your 1st round chances.

I was shocked to see him listed on NBAdraft.net If that holds any water I think hes gone.

The 2nd round of the NBA does not mean squat. No guaranteed contract. Nothing....

Most players with any potential to make a roster actually ask to not be drafted, as getting drafted limits your options...

Now if some team says we want you, and we'll give you a two-way contract (so you can play in the D league), that guarantees you money, then heck yeah. Take it!
But that is usually not the case.

Tyler Cook better than Roby? What a joke Tyler Cook can not shoot from the Perimeter and can only score around the basket..

Cook chose not to shoot 3's this season because he knows its not part of his game. Roby chose to shoot 84 of them at a pretty poor clip.

If he said he would do that and only do that, I'd be 100% in all in on him returning. But I'm sick of his dribbling, lazy passes, butter fingers, etc. Just focus on what you can do and do it well, as there are other Hawkeyes that can do the rest.

Oh I know. And I think it would be a bad move. I am speculating on what he thinks. He tested the waters last year and was on nobody's list. Im thinking if he gets a "drafted" report he will go.

That would be great for both him and Iowa basketball if he got drafted. If not, I hope he comes back.

I do really like TC and am glad he is at Iowa, but I do reluctantly concur with scarletred. I think Roby is the better player of the two. TC get your degree, become a rebounding force, and keep working on the 10 footer. One more year as a Hawkeye.

Scott Doc speculating on twitter that TC is gone for good

Excellent post. Cook's game has holes no doubt but the composition of the roster has exploited his weaknesses not his strengths throughout the year. People pile on Cook claiming he is showing off for the scouts etc., which IMO is absurd. Cook is the consummate teammate but when the offense is stagnant he is our only dribble drive threat. Poor decisions at times-yes. Sloppy ball handling at times-yes. Do I want Cook to leave? 110% no because athletically he can hang with anybody and that is rare trait on Fran's teams. PS- Fran has said all year he wants Cook to drive it and create for others. Typically his is what point guards do for other teams unless you are MSU and have Draymond Green.

Theoretically, but hes not actually good at either of those things.

He'll probably get drafted late second round. Fart around in the g league for 3 or 4 years, then try to salvage a few hundred k out of the last 5 years of his athletic ability in Europe.

Hell be back to the job market by the time hes 35 with no work experience and wishing he had that free degree.

I like Cook and wish him the best but i'm afraid this is true! I would like to see him finish school and be part of a great season next year!

If were doing combine drills absolutely. Great athlete.

If were playing a game he doesn't actually use his athleticism to be competitive with others who are similar. Its mostly just, jogging, standing on the floor, and staying out of the opponets way.

The school isn't going anywhere. He can always complete his degree later on. I don't disagree with the general consensus about his NBA prospects, but I'm not going to rag on him for pursuing his dreams.

No matter where he is playing he will be making more $$$$$$ than you will.

Not if he’s in the G League and it all depends what league he ends up in over seas. Sorry to upset you mrs cook with my statement. I’m a fan of cook but just didn’t not see him making a nba roster this year.

https://gleague.nba.com/news/nba-g-league-announces-player-salaries-2018-2019-season/

Also if he is playing over seas. Why not have fun in college one more year before you start a life over there. I can see wanting to go to the nba earlier because of the short career an nba player has. I wouldn’t leave early to play over there.

All of this. I have said the same thing all year. But it seems pretty obvious - even more so after hearing what we are hearing today - that he has no desire to do that. This is also why I still think they will be better next year without him.
