this. I think I would rather have EM but the timing is rough as poster said. you either take DD now or you force EM to accept the job while still having to coach. Not a good option.
I think DD will be a better recruiter.
We are very fortunate as Iowa fans…..we have two great options that appear to be very interested in the job!

I may or may not have seen DD driving a car down Riverside Drive, the windows were kind of tinted….but it had West Virginia plates and was pulling into Pancheros.

Yes. He and Bowlsby had clandestine meetings in the middle of the season, ending with an informal agreement for Alford to become the next Hawkeye coach. This was all before Alford took SMS to the Sweet 16.
I never said I didn’t like DeVries, or intimated he would not be a good hire…….quite the opposite! I was merely expressing a concern, much like other fans question McCollum regarding recruiting.
Unless Beth hires some knucklehead (which I doubt), I will be on board.

They raised the money for both buyouts, the new salary, and some for Carver renovations, in part from a new donor out of Arizona. Said Iowa wants to keep some of the future NIL money in house. Finally said discussions with DeVries hit a small sticking point, but expected it to be worked out soon.

This is a good summary comparison between McCollum and DeVries. DD is the right guy.
Per a discussion w/ a contact (well connected business man in the community) in Applington-Parkersburg (DD's hometown of course) area, the IA and DeVries camps have been talking for months now. It has nothing to do with the relative timing of Drake still being in a tourney and WVU not. IA has had the money together for awhile to buy out DD contract and add to the NIL to make us competitive (something IA recognizes & DD insisted on). Furthermore, it sounds like the administration recognizes this is the time for a complete reboot on many fronts (marketing, student engagement, big donor funding, moving forward w/ CHA renovation, etc.) and has a good start on funding same.
This has been a done deal for sometime. There is a reason DD sat on the WVU extension for half the season. I'd be stunned if this info isn't essentially correct.
DD will be an outstanding coach here at IA to take us to the next level. He's an Iowa guy through and through. As others have said, this is his dream job.

I've heard the same thing aside from the "small sticking point" between camps.
I will subscribe to the blogger who comes up with a phrase other than “takes us to the next level”….. Iowa basketball for sure, needs a new phrase to identify with!
For what it is worth I just saw someone at Theisens in Coralville that was wearing a WVU hat buying a snow blower on sale, I’m not saying it was DD….but….obviously someone who is putting down roots…
Wasn't the story Jeff Byers was buying a freezer and Majerus was a regular at the IC Hy-Vee?
Heard he purchased a lawn mower. The guy that sold it to him was impressed he didn’t try and get it for free because of who he is. Or something like that….😉jk
