Dumb Enough to Post My Thoughts from Today

A few of us drove out here, and I'm glad we did. Yesterday was fun watching some good Hawkeye wrestling.

One observation that I don't believe was mentioned - It sure looks to me that Lugo can make (and should make 41). Glosser was effective yesterday and Murin at 33 next year could work...

I'd bet money that he'll bonus Suriano. The knee won't be getting re-injured, since guys won't have many chances to even touch the knee, except when trying to counter his attacks.
I think Lee wins, but not bonus. Not sure he turns a healthy Nato. Still, if he wins by three or more against Suriano, then burn the shirt as he will likely be a national champ. The key is can he turn Suriano? If he can’t, he won’t be turning NATO!

125 Lee has four time National Champ written all over him ... UNLEASH HIM NOW
133 Still a problem ... Glynn the rest of the way?
141 Happel looks like the guy for the rest of the season
149/157 Sorensen and Kemerer are Dominating
165 Marinelli versus Lewis once again tomorrow
174 I still think in the short or long run Young will serve the Hawks better than Gunther ... like them both, but Youngs offence is much better
184 Bowman has impressed me all year, what a story for an Iowa kid
197 Oh boy, Warner versus Wilcke right off the bat ... that match should be interesting
Hwt Stoll is on a mission of conquest and destroy ... man, he has really looked good on the mat

Seven wrestlers into the semi-finals and eight more still wrestling in the consolations ... not a bad day for Mr Brands Hawkeye wrestling team. Go Hawks!!!
And how does Downey and his appearance at Iowa shake things up? I Iike this team a lot with Lee at 125, the obvious at 149 & 157, Marinelli at 165, Downey at 184, Wilcke at 197 & the beast at Hwt. Question marks at 133, 141 & 174. IF Murin could make the cut to 133, Happel continues to get better at 141 (he has it in his bloodlines) and Young or Gunther could rise to the challenge, the Hawks do have a chance come NCCA time ... dim, but not there is hope. Go Hawks!!!

With Lee, Warner, and Downey in the lineup and everyone healthy this team finishes between 4th and 6th about 40 points out of first.

Unfortunately we then lose Sorensen and Downey, and only add Lugo. I'm don't see how we're in the hunt for the foreseeable future.

Glosser is a little under the radar. His teammates talk about how tough he is, and we’re seeing that play out. He and Bowman share some traits, IMO. Both relatively unheralded, but they really scrap and aren’t afraid to let the fur fly. Really like these two.

He came close to turning him four years ago (any college ref would have given him 2NF) when he was 14 and Suriano was 16, and before all of his international experience. He's now completed puberty and I believe will handle Nick.

He showed us yesterday he can turn someone even when he doesn't control the wrist. I expect back points.

We would add warner and drop wilcke down to 84 I’d assume, about the same as Downey and wilcke this year. So we’d just lose Sorensen.

Sir, if you're a Hawkeye fan, please enroll immediately in the Iowa "Indoctrination Program", which is readily available on this site. You'll come around to quickly understand and believe that Iowa can become a legitimate title contender as early as 2017-18.

Savage!

Us Hawks do NOT let logic get in the way.

If he beats Suriano close, hedge on the RS. If he clearly beats him and there is no question about the W gonna be hard to keep the shirt on I would think.

I also think of this in 4x potential. A kid with his his recent injury history, might want that RS available for down the road should he need it.

If he tears up Bresser, where Fix was a lot closer, the anticipation for tonight will be taylor vs Dake at the scuffle level.
I highly doubt the outcome of one match with Nick Suriano is going to determine Spencer Lee's fate for this season. It's pretty clear already what they have in him. If he were to lose to Suriano today (or Bresser for that matter), it certainly doesn't mean he'll never beat them down the road.

There's clearly a lot of moving parts to this decision, a little too much "drama" for my taste, but whatever.

Really! No hope whatsoever. No Murin; no wrestlers improving; no recruits coming in. This is the most ignorable post I've seen in years. I hate myself for even replying to it.

I’ll bite by adding this...

PSU loses Zain and tOSU loses Snyder, Bo, and Tomosello...I think when you figure in Warner to replace PD3 and Lugo to replace Sorensen, Iowa likely loses less NCAA points than the other two...

But how many do our opponents gain by reloading?

We have Lee, Warner, Marinelli, Murin, Cassioppi, and Brands as our base moving forward for the next 4-5 years. We also will have a few projects type wrestlers that will pan out and some more recruits in the pipeline. We have the HWC in sensational shape. Yet some of our usual suspects predictably whine " we can't get within 40 points of a title with this group."

Boo hoo hoo hoo.

If things fall into place for us, Downey wrestling and Lugo to 141, and Lee going you are foolish to think we wont be within 30-40 pts.

Would that not be completely awesome — to see him come out for the finals in black and gold? No press conferences to explain the plan . . . No interviews. . . Just walks out in that legendary singlet and gets after it. Would be a nice way to make the announcement!

LAX and I were talking about that

We have Kemdawg for two and a half more years. That combined with Lee is major firepower. A couple more in the finals and you got a top three team any year. These guys will win one. It's just a matter of when and if they can stay healthy.

Wait, what? Lugo is going to drop to 141 and wrestle this season?

Yes, if every fantasy situation comes through for us, including some guys dropping weight for whom there is zero evidence that there is any plan for doing such, Iowa could place 3rd this season and be within 20 or 30 points. If Lee, Stoll, and Bull all remain healthy, if everybody wrestles to their expectations with a couple of guys exceeding them, if somebody unexpectedly drops a weight class to fill a hole -- and proceeds to perform well -- if all of that were to happen we come within 20 or 30.

But I'm talking about reality. Not fantasy.

And reality bites.
We're supposed to be the team of doers, not talkers. Too much talking, too much fantasy, not enough doing. First you do, then you talk. Just forget the fantasies.

So when Kemerer is a Senior (Nolf will be gone) 2019-2020

125 - Lee (Jr) - Champ (Top 3 worse case with Suriano and Fix if he makes 125)
133 - ??
141 - Murin (RSo) (Yiani, Eierman, Red, and a few others but certainly AA seems likely here)
149 - Lugo (RSr) (Deakin, Hayes, Thomsen and a few others but certainly a top 4 seems possible here)
157 - Kemerer (RSr) - Champ (After Nolf he will be clear favorite)
165 - Marinelli (RJr) - (V Joseph, Massa, Wick but Top 4 certainly in the cards)
174 - Young (RJr) - Round of 12, possible AA but tough competition at the top (Valencia, Hall)
184 - Wilke (RSr) - Wide open for $ and a top 4 seems realistic
197 - Warner (RSo) - (Moore and Cassar will be Seniors but top 3 seems likely)
Hwt - Cassioppia (RFr) - (Other than Gable S, all other top HWTs are Jrs and Srs now and will be gone) - AA

Is this the year?

6-7 legit top 4 guys and possible the others are AA to R12

Who would be our 133?
