For those who are petrified of life after Kirk…

Indiana is living proof in the era of NIL and the transfer portal that with the right coach a program can be turned around in one year.

That’s all.
True.

It all depends on the choice of replacement. F it up and you're what Nebraska has become.

Been a roller coaster ever since they canned Solich.

Nebraska is a special kind of stupid and deserves what they have gotten.

The point was not to extol Indiana. It was to point out a program can recover quickly from a bad hire or a legacy of mediocrity.

Exactly.
All the frightened hand wringers are living in the past, which I suppose is at least consistent with their worship of KF.
That their can even be a 2024 indiana football story we're seeing is entirely because things have changed in FBS. Dramatically changed. It no longer has to take years to build a competitive team. With unfettered free agency it can happen virtually overnight.
Of course there are no guarantees. The very good news is that even a bad hire doesn't have to doom a program for decades. It's ok to take a chance knowing that it's possible to recover quickly.

This is what the old timers who can’t imagine life after Ferentz need to understand.

They literally think Iowa is one Jerry Burns away from repeating the 1960s and ‘70s in 2025. It’s next level stupid.

Yes, college football has changed (and not for the better, imho), but to succeed, a coach has to go with the flow and buy into the new "rules." Not sure Ferentz agrees with the changes or is totally willing to take advantage of them.
