Fran to Penn

The Fran era will be remembered for for…..
…..
…..
…..
…..

…..oh wait. Nvm
For not being Lickliter, I guess, by some. Low bar.

Fran was OK but he didn't really accomplish much of note. The big ten tournament win is about the only thing that really stands out, and that was basically just one hot weekend of basketball.

He'll probably do well at Penn, but I like who we've got on our sidelines now.

Maybe he'll crack a smile there. :p

Philadelphia media is probably the nastiest out there. Fortunately for Fran, Penn basketball is such a small blip on the Philly sports radar that I doubt anyone will ever care to give him a hard time.

Is this the place where fans that insisted Fran was done coaching to join his family in Indy, and that he was checked out as Iowa coach, take any accountability for being wrong, disrespectful to the coach, and divisive amongst the fan base?

Of course not

It may have been the perfect job to keep him coaching. Who knows how long-ago Penn reached out and he knew he was going to be offered that job. Family may just keep heading east. He seemed to know he was going to continue coaching, when getting a new gig at his age, was no guarantee.

How does this prove that he wasn't checked out as Iowa's coach?

I dunno. I stand by my previous opinion that it would have been a good time for Fran to semi-retire, and spend his time following Jack's career.

That's what I would do.

I don't think it was being disrespectful to offer that point of view.

Or maybe Jack is going to end up at Penn. Wouldn't surprise me.

Well there's certainly a lot pointing to as much. Common sense would say as much.

The burden of proof lies with the drastic claim that Fran was checked out. You're pretty much making my case because there never was and never was going to be proof that Fran was checked out.

Again, to accuse the man of something so drastic, and something that can never be proven is a disrespectful leap in the first place. Just like the accusations on nepotism levied against Fran and Ferentz.

Coaches have enough respect for their jobs for their thought processes to go beyond their families. To suggest otherwise is disrespectful. The stuff of simpletons and so lazy

Well if you were just offering a point of view, that's one thing.

But many were flat out convinced that Fran was done coaching, to join his family, and that he was checked out at Iowa. They were presenting it as fact and they were wrong for having done so.

And is there a chance you aren't as innocent as you present? Seems like you still can't get past the simpleton "family" narrative, by suggesting Jack could end up at Penn

Actually most of us thought he was just checked out on coaching at Iowa. I fully expect one or more kids will work for him at Penn. Which was impossible at Iowa following the Brian Ferentz disaster and especially the nepotism of them playing for him.

You’re just dead-set on picking a fight over these topics at every opportunity, aren’t you.

Maybe check my posting history before you make simple-minded accusations about my motivations.

It seems to me that the people who have taken the disrespectful leap to say that coaches are prioritizing their families at the expense of their job performance are the people who have crossed a line.

And I didn't accuse you of anything. Simply asked a question

Don’t know how much this is what he thought he might be doing a year ago, but clearly an honest, emotional moment for him, full circle. As someone from the same generation, there is something to be said about being able to go home… who knows how it goes, but good for him ( as we do look forward to what Coach Mac has in store for us).

I wish him well but I am very happy he is gone. Not much more to say that this.
I can honestly say that I am unhappy but glad he is still coaching, look I knew a change had to be made but Fran helped me on a personal level how to deal with my fight against lymphoma and I was a nobody but a great hawkeye fan wins and loses in a basketball game is nothing shit less than nothing when your dealing with life and death

That was a lot of words to say "You're right, it doesn't prove it."
Thanks

The guy still wants to coach. Why would he run around the country watching Jack play and score 8 pts a game for a lousy Butler team?
