***Grambling St vs Iowa Game Thread***

Garza, Pemsl, Cook, Kreiner, Bohannon, Wagner all with poor games.

Bohannon poor game because of shooting, he did run the team well.
Garza had an excellent second half after a rough first. Almost had another double double and had two steals and three blocks

Grambling looked bush league at end, but whatever. They provided a good test and a lot of Hawks failed.

okay, take Garza off the list. Will be interesting to look at TOs...there were a lot.
Yeah there was. Iowa had more TOs 13-11 but I think when the game was tied around the 10 minute mark Iowa was up 11-5 or something. Very bad

The group that won this game for us consisted of three sophomores and two freshmen. Bodes well for the future.

Honestly those 5 should be playing 25 minutes or more each in tight games. Kreiner, Pemsl, Wagner, and Ellingson shouldn’t be in for much more than 10 minutes, maybe fewer, barring foul or injury issues. Baer coming back will change this a bit, probably stealing time from the backups and a few minutes from the starters to get to 20-25 minutes and Conner ever being healthy will reduce Ellingson’s minutes some. But we shouldn’t be trying to get the backups 15 to 20 minutes in close games. Each of them have one or more major holes in their game.

Pemsl = horrible ft shooter and lack of jumping ability hurts his rebounding a bit
Kreiner = decent at most things but not really good/great at anything
Wagner = horrible ft shooter and not much of anything on offense
Ellingson = not a very good ball handler and below average on defense
Conner = who knows until we see him in a real game

Agree that the best 5 players won this game. Garza, Cook, Nunge, Moss & JBO.

When Baer comes back that could take time away from Nunge who is already one of the best 5. That's an issue.

Worried about JBO and his feet. Cannot stay in front of anyone and really starts many of the breakdowns defensively. If he's not hitting threes it's a minus due to his defensive woes.

Super disappointed Dailey got zero minutes in the second half. He's arguably the next best guard and needs to play some. He was decent first half.

Kreiner makes shots but he's ackward too often. Has a hard time getting the into the flow at times.

Pemsl was off tonight as much mentally as anything. Three bad passes and lack of rebounding.

Ellenson just not athletic enough to do much against anyone decent. Has to hit open 3s or he's a minus on the floor defensively. Tried hard and is not a mistake guy.

Wagner.. good defender but can't do much offensively and a big liability on the FT line.

Cook had a good statistical game, but I think he was didn't get his hands defending some 3's. Our bigs seemed to look at each other at times instead of rebounding. Pemsl had 3 turnovers, Garza 2, wagner 2.

It was a turd but they won. They're going to take some lumps, but seems a bit early to throw in the towel.
