Hurricane season has arrived....

No; they are fully controlled by the states.

The President can request them. NC's governor already deployed them before Helene even hit.
Which is the only answer Trad needs here.
According to wikipedia, the Guard is jointly controlled by the Feds and the states. The president has the authority to deploy the guard if necessary. He does not need permission from the states.

All the models show we're going to have a busy couple of weeks in the Gulf with a weak low just spinning around. The GFS has it eventually meandering into the panhandle while the Euro and Canadian models have it affecting the Tampa area the week of the 7th.

Whoa now. It has been a pretty bad ride. Woke up Friday to no power, or water since on a well, no cell service until now. We are parked on a hillside next to the hospital and finally have a bit of service. Been reaching out to folks for a while now.

The wrath of Khan came thru WNC.

Just found out Mt. Mitchell ( highest peak in the East) measured 29.2 “ of rain. There is one road into Asheville (I-26 from the Greenville, SC direction). The Swannanoa River flowing thru Biltmore Village crushed the 1916 record flow.

Spotty reports via car radio… 30 dead in Asheville area, 5 in my Haywood County, 38 statewide.

Thanks for checking in Bill. We've been concerned.

Yeah, but it's no longer showing as a yellow X on the home page map.
This morning the weather reports have the Atlantic disturbances turning north as fish storms and the Gulf storm still not well organized but possibly affecting the South Texas coast more.

Howdy Jim, I am over at my daughter’s house and trying to catch up on “business”, news, and a bit of fun such as a dose of HORT.
Thanks for your note, very cool and we appreciate it muchly.
We are no strangers here to post hurricane impacts, with perhaps the worst in my years being back to back ones in I think 2004 that devastated Clyde and Canton area killing folks as well as one three years ago that hit upstream from Canton in Cruso killing six…

Those pale in comparison to this mutha scratcher which blew away the monstrous 1916 storm that killed folks down in Biltmore Village, south of downtown Asheville.Latest report is over 60 dead in Buncombe County, 5 in Haywood County besides others in the region.
The Swannanoa River flowing thru Biltmore is usually 2-3’ deep and thirty feet wide or so. Just upstream of Biltmore, Helene was likely 200’ wide when “confined”, while pictures in this thread down in the “bottoms” of Biltmore Village it was likely approaching a half mile wide before then wrecking the River Arts District. I believe the river crested at just shy of 30’ in Biltmore.
My work is closed for a while, two buddies lost longtime businesses down along the river.
There are 24, 36, and 8” water mains busted at the county reservoir… likely a bare minimum of two weeks before water is even a possibility.
Well, vent over. Go Noles and Hawks! Take care brother, billanole.
Thanks for checking in Bill. We've been concerned.

Tape measure storm chaser guy isn’t all there. He flew to Taiwan to ride out a typhoon.

Days before impact, our region was accurately told that the impact would be worse than the historic killer flood of 1916 that devastated in particular the Biltmore Village area and against which all other events have been compared to since then.
The forecast was sadly spot on.
No one told the residents of Asheville and surrounding communities to evacuate.

Thanks for the information. As usual, Trad has been trying his hardest to make this thread as political as possible and simultaneously show how big of a dumbass he is.

These DPL updates you post have been blank for me for awhile now. I don’t know why.

Something changed the week of the hurricane between rivals and fb. The posts are no longer visible on the phone browser. There was a thread about it but I never saw an answer explaining what happened.

Here is the link to Denis Phillips FB page. I’ll start posting it along with the updates so you can bypass whatever is blocking the posts
