Embarrassing, Assad and Brands have both beaten Braunagel.Typical Warner match. I imagine this could be a quarterfinal kinda match in March.
I’m a big fan of Tom but that seems like more of a talking point anymore. It certainly doesn’t get translated to the mat.Tom Brands talks alot about scoring points, I don't think his wrestlers hear it aside from a few guys.
Now you got me wondering if that has ever happened.Ruth and Brands should have both been stalled out and dq'd. That was an embarrassment to the sport.
That's basically been the last 4 years of watching him. Please tell me Warner is one of the guys with the flu in the room...only explanation for how a guy who's been in the program this long can make the same mistake over and over again, and show no sense of urgency or aggression. Gotten to the point where I really don't like watching him wrestle...unless he's someone he has completely overmatched, his offense dissapears.
Well I'm guessing we sit SL and PK at least, so I doubt whatever motley crew of a lineup the coaches roll out there will show much better.Hawks win 25-19. Split the matches 5-5 in this dual meet. Both backups lost and quite frankly looked bad doing it.
I imagine there will be some criticism on this thread the next few days. Gonna be some tough grades.
Forward to Purdue and hopefully a better showing.
I am under the belief they are on the downward slope of their careers.i think this coaching staff is out of gas
This is Iowa wrestling unfortunately if you have paid attention the past several years. If anyone thinks this is Iowa wrestling or that this is ok, you're wrong. Something needs to change.
Less flu bugs in my old peoples home than we have every year. Thanks for the pbp. Hope it’s a flu bug and things look much different next week.
Iowa wrestling has become quite boring and predictable and the techniques the same.Iowa needs to figure out a new position to score from other than the collar tie. It has clearly been scouted. Many of our guys don’t know what to do if they don’t get there or can’t create angles with snaps. Murin, Brands, Assad, and Warner. If they don’t get to the collar tie then they look for re-attacks and counters off their opponents shot. When the opponents don’t shoot, we don’t score. It’s been this way for a minute, tonight’s dual was the latest example.
Hence why at the end of the year psu usually beats Iowa guys. Not hard to scout the same move sequencesIowa wrestling has become quite boring and predictable and the techniques the same.
I notice Brands rarely shuts up during a match constantly micro coaching and Carl rarely says a thing.Hence why at the end of the year psu usually beats Iowa guys. Not hard to scout the same move sequences
Love him or hate him, Carl is the master of detail, game planning his wrestlers to the point of individual matches.Hence why at the end of the year psu usually beats Iowa guys. Not hard to scout the same move sequences
How the Brands wrestled worked for them but they were incredibly strong for their weights and had next level gas tanks not to mention the stalling rules were much more favorable back then. I loved their style but their style doesn't look as good when it's not them doing it.I think they hear TNT it’s just hard to score ear to ear. Worked for TNT but it’s the only thing they coach. Heavy on head. Be stingy. They wrestle the way they’re coached. There offensive schemes are as poor as Brian Ferentz. 2 stubborn coaches that refuse to allow offensive schemes evolve. Refuse to change even in face of defeats.
To be fair if we had a team full of Spencer Lees like Penn State recruits he wouldn’t have to say much, either.I notice Brands rarely shuts up during a match constantly micro coaching and Carl rarely says a thing.
Carl has already game planned the match. Then they excecute.I notice Brands rarely shuts up during a match constantly micro coaching and Carl rarely says a thing.
I thought if we just wrestle our match and worry about how we wrestle it doesn't matter what the other guy does. 😉Love him or hate him, Carl is the master of detail, game planning his wrestlers to the point of individual matches.
Look at RBY vs Desanto progression, Kem vs Carter, Kerk vs Cass.
Carl is on a different level.
Hate me for saying it.
It's true.
