Illinois Dual Thread

Cass trying to pull the arm out. Stalling called again. Didn’t see the first. 3-0 Cass.

Cass defers. Wrob neutral. Cass with a bear hug for 2 and getting swipes. Gets 4 NF! 10-0.

Cass working for the arm. Wrob just laying there. Another stall. 12-0. One more stall and it’s match termination.

End of 2. Cass chooses top. Cass has him flat. Wrob just laying there as Cass tries to get the arm out. Another stall and that’s a DQ for stalling. 25-19 Iowa.

Hawks win 25-19. Split the matches 5-5 in this dual meet. Both backups lost and quite frankly looked bad doing it.

I imagine there will be some criticism on this thread the next few days. Gonna be some tough grades.

Forward to Purdue and hopefully a better showing.

Please tell me Warner is one of the guys with the flu in the room...only explanation for how a guy who's been in the program this long can make the same mistake over and over again, and show no sense of urgency or aggression. Gotten to the point where I really don't like watching him wrestle...unless he's someone he has completely overmatched, his offense dissapears.

That's basically been the last 4 years of watching him.

Well I'm guessing we sit SL and PK at least, so I doubt whatever motley crew of a lineup the coaches roll out there will show much better.

Iowa needs to figure out a new position to score from other than the collar tie. It has clearly been scouted. Many of our guys don’t know what to do if they don’t get there or can’t create angles with snaps. Murin, Brands, Assad, and Warner. If they don’t get to the collar tie then they look for re-attacks and counters off their opponents shot. When the opponents don’t shoot, we don’t score. It’s been this way for a minute, tonight’s dual was the latest example.

I think they hear TNT it’s just hard to score ear to ear. Worked for TNT but it’s the only thing they coach. Heavy on head. Be stingy. They wrestle the way they’re coached. There offensive schemes are as poor as Brian Ferentz. 2 stubborn coaches that refuse to allow offensive schemes evolve. Refuse to change even in face of defeats.

Iowa wrestling has become quite boring and predictable and the techniques the same.

Hence why at the end of the year psu usually beats Iowa guys. Not hard to scout the same move sequences
Love him or hate him, Carl is the master of detail, game planning his wrestlers to the point of individual matches.
Look at RBY vs Desanto progression, Kem vs Carter, Kerk vs Cass.
Carl is on a different level.
Hate me for saying it.
It's true.

How the Brands wrestled worked for them but they were incredibly strong for their weights and had next level gas tanks not to mention the stalling rules were much more favorable back then. I loved their style but their style doesn't look as good when it's not them doing it.

I thought if we just wrestle our match and worry about how we wrestle it doesn't matter what the other guy does. 😉
