Illinois vs. Clones

There were some questionable double-teams by the clones late that Illinois passed out of for open 3 pointers and nailed them every time. Their freshman euro player also had a bad game and shouldn't have been inserted back in after sitting on the bench so long. Promptly came in and stumbled and made a turnover. Too much driving into trees as well. ISU wins if not for these mistakes. But hindsight is 20/20. They certainly had a good season, sweet 16 and b12 champions.

Houston was Big12 champions.

Minor correction, to a disappointing Iowa State season

Seems like the moment was too big for them. Get better and get healthy and run it back next

ISU struggles to score at times. The last 5 games (minus the 1st half is Wash State) everything has been clicking. So who knows? A lot of keys tonight, I think Momcilovic needs to score 10-15 points. Haven't watched IL enough to know how they will handle ISU defense. Shannon is really good.

I won't be surprised either way tonight. Not getting my hopes up, but also have seen how well ISU CAN play (vs. Houston in Big 12 Championship).
Good to see Big 12 collapse in the tourney. Houston loses Friday and the alleged best league turns out to be soft as butter.. ISU never led in this game and would not have been close if Illini made their free throws..
Any Iowa fan that hates ISU more than Ilinois needs a head check. I can't stand ISU fans obsession with Iowa. Doing it back towards them is lowering your standards
You need to live closer to Ames. You will change your mind.

Nothing disappointing about it at all, preseason picked 7th in the big 12, finished 2nd, made the sweet 16, won the big 12 tourney, probably going to finish ranked in the top ten. Way above expectations and a lot to be proud of for the guys in the program.

I mean this sincerely, this is weird. I don’t feel bad at all. Miss a million bunnies and you’re gonna lose.
ISU lost because they missed bunnies? Illinois missed at least 13 free throws . Want to talk about bunnies?

I do not post on your fanatic board but occasionally read. losing to a team from a conference you people have denigrated all season while blathering continually about how tough the Big 12 was and what a tough schedule you played HAS to be disappointing. Keep saying you are not and soon you will believe it.

I genuinely don’t hate any teams. Fans can be obnoxious and annoying, including a lot of Iowa fans, so I take all of this hate with a grain of salt.

Regardless of Illinois or Iowa State winning or losing last night, Iowa basketball still has an NIL problem and a Fran McCaffrey problem.

I’d rather fix that than jerk off to whichever rival I hate the most losing last night, but to each his own. Not my idea of a consolation prize, though.

Iowa State went 11-25 on layups and dunks.

It happens sometimes. It’s a missed opportunity and you hate to do that. But I’m not losing my mind over what is a very successful season by any metric.

Sometimes when you lose a game like this it really hurts because it feels like the end of something, like when Morris and Niang graduated.

Seems like TJ is just getting started and I’m pumped about the future so that takes a lot of the sting away.

We all would like a fix to Iowa’s current issues. That is not happening so we have to rely on the next best thing., Hating ISU.

Were all of those uncontested.? I doubt it. Every single one of Illinois free throw attempts were uncontested,

You are assuming falsely. I know the law and evidence procedures....I would tell him to own up to it if he did it.
If you know the law youd know its not that simple. You would do what you could to minimize prison or avoid it. Seems to me you really dont get the seriousness nor understand the law.

Why wasn’t ISU pressing hard the last 5-6 minutes of the game? The Illini are very weak at the guard positions and ISU could have made things interesting. They basically let the Illini bleed out the clock and then also continued to foul their star player….obviously inserting that Euro player was a colossal coaching error as well…

Definitely not a successful for season by ISU at all.

This was your year. This was your one chance.

To not even make it as far as your seeding in this tournament makes your season one big turd.

Oh well, maybe you’ll make the Final 4 in the 2100’s. 😂

How many on ISU s roster will return next year?
Lipsey
Mislonvich
Omaha
?
I do not know what year the rest are in school.
I know they have another good recruiting class coming.

Lipsey, Gilbert, Milan and C Jones will all be back. Losing some guys down low, but bringing in some transfers. TJ teaches d, they will probably be fine.

We lose three bigs. Just about everybody else returns. Two four-stars redshirted this year -- although the fact that a five-star rode the bench indicates the star system can't be taken too seriously.

Ankeny money will bring them all back. 😜

Going to throw this out there. Iowa States top 6 players last night and where they came from. Lipsey, homegrown, Ames guy who was always going to Iowa State. Tre King. Transfer from Eastern Kentucky. Yes, Eastern Kentucky. Robert Jones. Transfer from Denver. Gilbert. UNLV. Momcilovich. Highly regarded Freshman. Curtis Jones. Buffalo. This is called coaching. None of these transfers came from highly regarded schools. Buffalo, Eastern KY, UNLV, Denver. Mixed in w/a few recruits. These guys bought into defense and team play. That's not a very talented team, honestly, especially offensively. The fact they did as well as they did is defense and coaching.

Add in the fact that Fran doesn’t recruit well for his system….which seems to be meant for long, athletic players (see Illini) - which besides the Murray Brothers, he has never done. Not to beat a dead horse, but he keep recruiting players that can shoot, may or may not play defense well, and by and large are not the most athletic guys. Exhibit A: Ben Krippe.

Illini had some athletes that made finishing shots around the basket difficult and affected the shots. I didn't see 25 layups--i saw a lot of contorted runners around the basket. Illini are also a very good rebounding team, so not a lot of second chances--you only got 8 offensive rebounds and Illini had 29 defensive rebounds.

Your team was great defensively, loffensively challenged, and you didn't lose because you missed a bunch of layups. Illini think about the missed FTs that kept ISU in the game.

Good offense beats good defense in basketball pretty much every time.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, not 5 star guys. Still I think NIL played a big role in getting/keeping some of these guys. TJ Coaching system fits perfectly with the athletes and not the 1st time TJ put together a Sweet16 team. Two sweet16s in only 3 years, total turnaround...makes our guys coaching run look like a joke.

I will say the one ISU guy that fits the Fran profile of recruiting...Momcilovich .....he is the guy that played the worst vs the athletes of Illini and a big reason they lost.

On the other bench, Uderwood is kind of sleezy, but he also made use fo the Portal to build his lineup. T. Shannon is a lottery pick type talent.

Our Iowa squad currently has 2 recruited black athletes on it for next year....by my count 12 of the 15 portal/transfer outs we've had since rougly 2015 are black athletes. Most of the athletes leaving are Black and that is from rosters that are unsually defficient in black athletes vs rest of college ball which is 53% black. . Fran seems to get a free pass for apparently not providing an environment enjoyed by black athletes and little appeal and/or having a bias in recruiting.

Agree. It wasn't like they missed wide open layups. Almost every shot it that game was contested by both teams. The late alley-oop to King I believe when he was wide open which might have made it a 1 or 2 point game and he tossed it over the other side of the basket was ridiculously bad. That was a huge play.
