Oh boy, it's on. Just announced.

here's a tweet to prove it, because twitter is king, and Rick Brown and Scott Dochterman have already weighed in:

How will it work with two games in prime time? Will the B1G West teams get the Iowa game on the main BTN channel and the Illinois game on the overflow?

1. Does "prime time" mean the same thing for college football as it does for sitcoms? If you asked me what was the prime time for a college football game, I'd say 1 p.m. Saturday.

2. I don't think this game should be played at night. I've said it when it's been in Ames and I've said it when it's been in Iowa City. Just not a good idea.

I mean, it will be done by location. The state of IL will get the Illini game, and most other places will get the Iowa one.

If it's a night game against isu in Kinnick with a stud senior qb who will win the davidobrien this year, here's how the season plays out:
1. KF loses to Campbell maintaining his streak of never beating an isu coach on his first try.
2. 8-0 regular B1G
3. Revisit Rose Bowl and face Gtech this time.
I think I will take it. We can deal with soup next year.

Yep, the whole "new coach novelty" bullsh**, unfortunately.

In fact regardless of what ISU fans think, their 2016 team is about as straight-forwardly average from a talent perspective as one can get....but with the new coach, etc, at least for this year they will probably play above their means in many of their games, none more so than Iowa.

And as per the trend, and particularly so given the circumstances going into this year, beating ISU, even at home, will be a solid stepping stone in the right direction for us.

Not to mention, I don't think this Iowa team, like most before, is capable of bucking the trends set by the ISU game (2002 we lost and went 11-2, 2006 we won and went 6-7). I don't see this team pulling either feat based on the result of this year's game. We'll either have success following a win, or tank bau after a stupid, unnecessary (sorry ISU fans but it's true) loss.

1. Rhoads lost his first game vs Iowa in 09'
2. 9 games in conference play now.

This is probably the worst game to make a night game ...

Many of the students will be drunk or passed out before game time
Many Hawkeye faithful will be drunk or passed out before gametime
You have an extra 20,000 or so people in town to party

While the environment will be electric ... It's going to involve a lot of arrests ... and chaos ... Love the Iowa/ISU game ... but not need to give fans an extra 5-6 hours of tailgating time ... Only because liquid courage will be at an elevated level. :)

I agree. The Iowa/ISU game should be at 11 am. I remember taking my dad to the Iowa/Michigan game back in 09. We got there around 12 or 1 in the afternoon and too many kids were already snot slingin' drunk. Kickoff was 7.

It's going to be ugly.

Is CJ not going to be a Sr. somehow?
He isn't winning the Davey O'Brien award unless about Watson, Mayfield, Barrett, Russell, etc get hurt. Even then chances will still be pretty slim. Won't have the passing numbers to win it.

NDST vs Iowa would be a good one for a late afternoon early evening (5pm) kickoff.

As long as the kickoff is not 5:30 PM. That was costly last time against isu.

I went to the 2002 ISU and 2003 Arizona St. games and both were awesome atmospheres. Kinnick was loud and crazy just the way it needs to be.

Agreed. Went to the Penn State night game and that was great as well. And then the game started.

i thought i heard on the radio this AM that there are three night games this season. has that actually been announced?

There has been considerable discussion here about how ugly things got the night of the ISU game in 2002....and I think the MSU game the same season. That's why I think it's a bad idea to play this game at night (at either Ames or Iowa City).

Oh, you mean as compared/contrasted to the many discussions here about how 'ugly' things have been in Ames generally anytime there has been a game involving Iowa at Jack Trice?

I'm going to give LC a pass on this one. If you don't think the atmosphere before and after the 2002 ISU game was ugly, then you weren't there. I was in it, and was proud to have contributed to its ugliness in the moment. But I have no interest in ever being witness to that again, and certainly don't want to drag my kids through it to a game now.

There is a difference between an atmosphere that is electric (PSU/ASU/Minnesota last year), and one that is ugly. Anytime ISU is involved it will be ugly, and I'm not just talking about the females on their campus.

I don't think so but so far it looks like Iowa State and Michigan at home and Penn State on the road.

Michigan buddy confirmed this morning that their site is saying Iowa is a night game in Iowa City.
