***Iowa vs Penn State WBB Game***

Martin and Marshall can handle the ball. Marshall was the backup PG as a freshman and switched to 2 guard when Doyle/Meyer graduated as we added Clark. I think the solution is play Taiwo more early so Marshall/Martin can be available to run the point late. Taiwo can sub the 2 or 3 and just slide over. Bluder needs to let her play longer stretches. She can handle 16-20 minutes a game or more. She and Kylie can both sub the 2-4 and maybe free up Marshall/Martin to rotate games playing the point in late game situations so we can give our forwards more experience.

Syd should never be in a position where she has to play the point unless we are insane foul trouble. It will get a little better next year with McCabe but we still could use a transfer portal guard.
Marshall is a spot up shooter not a ball handler, they tried her at PG as a freshman but went to Zion Sanders, Alexis Sevillian, and even gave Makenzie Meyer some minutes there when Doyle went out. Martin is just so-so at ball handling. I agree with you that they need to go get a true point guard and even play both PG together.

Neither is ideal but Kylie + Marshall/Martin in late games will allow for the team to break the press so Syd, AJ and Addie can get the experience they need late in the game without every possession being a turnover.

At this point I'd take a walk-on at PG in '23 if she can break the press and can drive the lane even a little bit.

Probably, but some of these away stats people struggle, so I’m not shocked.

After watching the video, it looks like it was a third quarter assist that got missed. Just basing it off the numbers I had.
Watching the video from Iowa WBB Twitter and counting her assists btwn halfs, I believe it was the out-of-bounds play that wasn’t counted? I could be wrong. Positive it was missed in the 1st half.

I believe that means you were right, Kyle. You had her for 11 at half, but I remember the announcers giving her 10 and also on ESPN box score as 10.

In my recap, I noted that Clark had 5 assists at the end of the first quarter. The video shows 6 first quarter assists, so it had to be one of those that wasn't originally counted.

Just guessing blindly, I'll say either assist 3 or assist 6 was the culprit. On assist 3, Clark is in the lane right next to Monika when she passes out. Maybe the scorer wasn't paying close enough attention and credited Monika instead? On assist 6, Gabbie fakes a pass before taking the shot. Maybe that action made them not credit the assist?

I am curious what led to the recount. Does somebody have to send a request to initiate a review? Is it a routine process after every game? Or was it because it's a record breaking performance, that it had to be verified before it could be officially added to the record books?

Yeah, I would guess #6 wasn't counted where Gabbie had to ball fake to create space. I'm still not even sure I'd count it as an assist TBH.

That is fascinating to me. The NCAA rule is that "the pass must constitute a crucial game component leading to a basket." Caitlin obviously found Gabby in good position on the wing and got her the ball, but the rule is vague enough to leave it up to the judgment of the scorekeeper in this case.

Interestingly, Iowa has not changed the box score at Hawkeyesports.com. It still says 17 for Clark and 37 for the team. I am curious what happened the next day. I assume that when the Iowa social media crew did a cut up of all Caitlin's assists for Twitter, they called this an assist when the official scorer did not. So I guess the original box score still stands.
