Iowa WBB 2025 Recruiting Thread

I’ve considered this as well. I’ve also wondered if that girl that stayed home and went to Washington we missed out on was influenced by Caitlin as well, but was instead inspired to stay home to try to do “Caitlin things” at her home state school. I could see other elite players doing this, which would help level the playing field with recruiting and make things even more competitive. Not necessarily a bad thing if you ask me.
I’ve long believed Caitlin has inspired many young women to stay home / avoid the blue bloods in favor of building something new. I could list various athletes but it’s all speculation of course. I felt that way about McGaughy too tho.

Jernigan announced her Top 3 and Iowa wasn't in it (not surprising). At this point, Spieser, Skinner, and Hays are the only players left in the class that still seem like targets barring additional visits or additional offers.

What do we have open 4 spots, wonder if any player that does not have a team in it top 10 goes back and rethinks like hey deal is going to Iowa and I play ball how about I change my mind and go play with deal since I had fun playing aau with her “jazzy”

After she made that statement (looking for an exact fit) over a year ago and had visited Iowa three times, I felt Iowa was down the list.

Great three point shooter who would fit in great in Iowa's system. Maybe her preferred major or campus isn't Iowa.
Saw a post she made earlier in which she included something to the effect of ...'All things are possible in Christ'. Maybe she has a strong faith and is waiting to see what other pieces Iowa adds that may provide connections for her socially w/in the program. (idk, but maybe LB was more along that line and since she's retired, Speiser not looking at Iowa as close? Again, idk )

One thing to keep in mind with Spieser is that her visits don't always mean serious interest. She publicly disclosed visits to Iowa, K-State, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri. Kansas and Missouri didn't even make her Top 11, and Arkansas didn't make her recent Top 5 (to the extent it actually was a top 5).

At this point Iowa is probably less likely than not to get her, but I don't think it's completely off the table.
A little surprised not to see any blue-blood offers (UConn, So. Carolina, LSU, Tenn, Stanford, etc) Maybe waiting to see if anything develops? (Great shooter, though @ 6'1 she doesn't seem as quick as some of those programs may prefer)

I guess I don’t understand why everyone is so pessimistic in regard to Speiser, In the post (#1400) that SunzOutGunzOut made she said she had taken officials to TCU and K.State and was going to take official visits to OSU,UNC and Iowa in the fall, Seems to me she still has strong interest in Iowa unless she changes her mind about visiting.
Don't recruits only get 5 officials? If true and she's already taken 2, maybe she wants to be very selective about her last 3?

Jordan Speiser just went off for 40 points on 11-13 shooting from three in AIA’s second game at Nike Nationals. Needless to say, she is an incredible shooter.
Needless, ... indeedless! Logo-3 potential for sure.

Looks like Libby Fandel is committing today.

Looks like Libby Fandel is committing today.

Last intel I heard on Fandel was that it was down to Creighton and Kansas, with a lean towards Kansas. But, that intel is 10 days to 2 weeks old. Others may have entered the fray in that time, but I will stick with one of these two.

What the heck are these players waiting on!?
They've all been pretty busy with AAU or in Skinner's case a national team tournament in Mexico. Hays just announced her top 8 but hasn't even visited 4 of the 8 schools on the list.

Top recruits can take their time because they know their top options are generally going to keep a spot for them. That's one downside to competing for elite recruits. Many aren't going to make an early decision.

The top recruit in the 24 class just committed in May.

As others have pointed out, I believe this class is in a zero-sum-game-sort-of-way stalemate. As in there's less pressure to committ when there's less commitments from your cohorts/peers for the same general pool of offers. At some point a domino effect has to occur that triggers a rush of commitments as the spots evaporate. Musical chairs in a sense.

Yep. When McCabe committed she said the coaches told her (and presumably others) they had 1 scholarship left and the first to commit got it. That created a rush to commit and McCabe's class was done really early.

With the 2025s, Iowa's 3 remaining targets all play different positions. Point guard and post are both positions of need for the roster. Plus Iowa has the scholarship space to take all three if they each wanted to commit. That pressure to commit quickly isn't there.

McCabe was also motivated to find a home when she lost her potential spot to Nebraska after Callin Hake committed to Nebraska on July 29, 2020, and McCabe committed to Iowa 5 days later on August 3.

Our 2025 class has Deal a 5-star and Houston a 4-star so the class is already good. Add in Hays, Skinner or Speiser and it's very good. Any two and it would be top 5. We can dream can't we?

Edit: Pair this class with 2024 and the Hawks will be very good for some time to come.

I’d go a step higher and say very very good.😉 if Houston comes back stronger and 100% look out. i’ve seen her play many times and the only thing she lacked in my opinion was improving her three-point range. In the paint, driving the ball, rebounding, first step, absolutely fantastic.

Hays- Has only visited Gonzaga, Indiana, and Illinois so far. Maybe more visits are coming. I wouldn't put Iowa's chances at 50% or above, but 20-35% seems like the right range.
FWIW Hays posted a “goodbye summer” series that had quite a few different pics, and one of them was from a visit to Washington (tho she didn’t make a full post about it like she did with Iowa, Illinois and Indiana). So she has visited at least 5 of her Top 8.

Interesting to see that Houston is down to #74. Zediker ranked above her now, yet Iowa didn't offer. Bourrage is at #5, is she really that much better than Houston? Houston's injury and Deal's injury have really impacted their rankings.

Relevant to Skinner recruitment?

Let the dominos fall. Certainly relevant to Skinner.

So doing some reading on Utah, They signed 3 guards for this year, They have commitment’s from 2 guards for 25. And in the TIFWIW category I read an article dated in June doing an overall breakdown of their roster and potential recruits for 25 and 26, They talked about Sneed obviously before she committed and the other guard they have a commitment from but they did not mention Skinner as a possible recruit.

Good info.

edit: Hoping for a finalist list soon from Skinner.

“She turned some schools away early in the process and will narrow down a list of finalists later this summer.” . . .

“I think I’m going to make a decision this fall before the season starts,” Skinner said. “I have a number in my head for finalists and will release that at some time. I’m still trying to figure everything out. I’ve been so busy this spring.”
