Who exactly calls for truly "open borders?" I think the term "open borders" is largely hyperbole used as part of a politically motivated general fear mongering tactic.
I want a working immigration policy that allows more rapid entry into the USA, because we need workers willing to work. The US population growth is declining and at a tipping point. The economy will decline without workers.
As a nation who likes to call itself 'a nation of immigrants' and a 'melting pot', we should embrace a fully functional immigration policy. That would be one that is neither overly bureaucratic nor unnecessarily restrictive. These tenets seem consistent with conservative ideals that are pro business and anti-big government.
