My non-expert take, I think the knowledge and experience/expertise are in there somewhere, but he just doesn't have the ability at this point to communicate it clearly or perhaps to bring it to bear in analyzing a difficult issue of national importance. And I don't doubt that he actually cares about the good of our country. This press conference did nothing to assuage my concerns. I'm a bit bummed about that because I view Trump as a uniquely terrible candidate who is wholly unfit in other ways to hold the highest office in the land.
I consider myself a centrist, somewhat left on certain issues and more right on others, the latter especially as it pertains to the federal government, which I prefer to be more limited in its focus on national defense and a moderate hand in regulating interstate commerce. This is a truly sad point in our history, totally unprecedented in my lifetime.
I'm to the point that I think he needs to withdraw and let someone else step up. We are about to witness the power of the unseen kingmakers contrasted with the immense power vested in one person as the president. If I had to put money on it, I'd bet that Biden is not at the top of the ticket in November.
