JRob

Well known freshman has birthday 1/22/97.

Hated seeing that DOB on the affidavit.

Reading the initial pages of the affidavit makes me think JROB had JROBS best interest in mind. If he cared about those kids who were using he would have beat the drugs out of them the day he found out. You don't wait until the season is over to address that. This is all based on the report saying he knew about it for several weeks. I don't know how you can say he was trying to help the kids if that is the case.

Nearly 16 wrestlers were using. Damn near half the team.

The problem was caused by recruiting 14 freshmen when there were already 12 red shirt freshmen on the team. I think a few bad apples helped to induce straight-laced kids to go wrong.

damn. Never thought to look at DOB because I never thought he'd be a suspect. Well, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and that applies to the parents as well. He's out of the woods legally, so let's hope he's been sufficiently scared straight.

One thing I did want to mention was that the one essay they posted from one of the alleged sellers was very heart felt and came from true contrition. I think he was glad he got caught because it seems like he wasn't happy with himself.

I don't want to look at the affidavit and try to find DOB, is there a reason you are just using names? It is public info...

Interesting that the school drug tested the whole team but didn't test them for xanax even thought that was the drug at the center of the scandal. It looks like a 2nd sample may be available that tested for xanax but the school isn't going to test for it and the police aren't going to get a search warrant to test it. What a mess

It goes back to what AZ said earlier. It was the most poorly redacted document ever seen. A child could probably figure out the names with google and a minimum of effort.

Interesting take. not where I would have assigned blame

141 starter bday 9/12/95

Prolly why J wanted to wait til season was over?

Its harder to figure out who was NOT involved at this point.

As much as J is getting his due for this. I have to ask myself what all those young under 25 secretary's (TIC...volunteer assistants) that were on staff played in not knowing or not addressing the situation. Not sure how those guys didnt hear the locker room talk that coaches like J and eggum might not.

I am 100% guessing, but Xanax is not a banned substance for NCAA athletes. They likely weren't allowed to test for it.

Uh no...almost all of the "sellers" were born in 95 which makes them 20. Also, one of the letters was written by one of the dealers said he should have set the example for the younger guys...the 125. "I feel bad about the freshman because I supposed to be somebody they could look up to and be an example to but I dragged them down with me." This is the one who was caught stealing as well.

One kid even OD'd? How did it not fall apart at that point cause usually that scares the shit out of all involved? Anyways, the few bad apple theory doesn't cut bait. One thing for one or two kids to get involved but this was a big time trend with multiple drugs involved. Just wouldn't have expected this from wrestlers. Shit!

When asked, they pulled a Sgt Schultz according to the affidavit. I'm guessing JROB told them to so it wouldn't fall on them or he kept them out of it totally. Problem is, if I'm hiring a coach...is it plausible, are they covering that part up too, or did they have their heads in the sand? Nothing in my organization is a secret for the most part. In this case, just so many moving parts for it to be remotely believable that the assistants didn't know.

A year from now a woman will be sitting in the Ovary Office with a hell, I mean a hell of a lot, worse cover ups than J Rob. I say as wrestlers, we let it go, " never kick a man when he's down, especially a fellow wrestler."

I sometimes wonder how much of this is generational as he seems like a good guy. This is probably how it was done in the 70s and 80s. But times have changed, and today you'll get fired without question for doing what he did.

I'm hearing Lizak, Thorn, Stroker, and Short will not be Gophers anymore. Also hearing Thorn to be a Cyclone.

At least in Thorn's case, assuming he were to leave, it would make some sense since Dad is a former Clone and not too far from home still.

Regarding Thorn... Is KJ really that desperate to take a kid already with a bad reputation?

Oh, wait... never mind! Open arms.

Who knows if Thorn was one of them? Maybe he's the one who spoke up if this indeed true. Same with Short and Stroker.

Wow, if true it will be imperative for MN to hit a home run with their next hire, i.e., Mark Perry. If they hire internally, kiss the program goodbye.

There is no way in hell they can stay with an internal hire. And you'd have to be deaf, dumb, and stupid to think that members of the coaching staff didn't have suspicions or simply ignored stuff.

Some of us said this when the story broke and I still believe it... Minnesota wrestling will not recover from this. Like ISU, it really is a hiccup because another college program or two will benefit from the disaster. Minnesota Athletics are an embarrassment to the B1G.

I question your sources.
If we promise not to tell, will you let us know who you are hearing so we can see who's full of crap?

Through the years, you are the only credible guy with Gopher ties that has visited this site.

I'd include PBS, but he's MIA.

Well 5 of them are real easy to figure out based on their birth dates. The Gopher wrestling site listed all the birth dates and recently removed them, but you can still see them in cache view.

One of the suspected wrestlers isn't identified by his birthdate. I am pretty sure who the 6th guy is but since I'm not 100% certain, I'll keep it to myself.
