Little Eppy- Hope he can start day 1

It might be hard to keep him off the field as he’s ready built coming in at 270 as is but the learning curve… I know AJ played in a rotation early on and I would be happy to even see that… we need to get more of these high caliber recruits damnit ! I do see some excellent talent waiting in the wings at the DE spot… hopefully one or 2 can break into the 2 deeps this year as I like Devan Kennedy, Chima Cheneke, Joesph Anderson… I am wondering their updated weights are etc… if any are going to crack the 2 deeps… they look to bring some needed speed and athleticism to the edges hopefully.

seem to run a steady rotation, am sure he will be in it. May take a year to start.

I have been wondering about weight gains by these young linemen also. I expect Kennedy will move inside. Cheneke will probably inside or outside. Anderson is the most athletic, looking for big things on the outside for that young man.

He will probably be good enough to leave early after junior year so I'm all for getting him on the field asap. Wish we would have got more snaps out of AJ. He was a disrupter!

a real difference maker on each side of the los would make a massive difference. last year we had kaleb on offense but nobody on D. maybe eppy and shaffer will be those type guys for us.

They did with his brother AJ. They did with it with cooper and graves. Even Kirk acknowledged with portal if player is good enough he will play. He’s even spoke about after hockenson made him rethink how red shirts are done and he could’ve and should’ve played him after kittle got hurt. Going back to dejean why Iowa burned his red shirt cause in Kirk’s words he knew he wouldn’t be at Iowa after 4 years red shirt or not.

Both Drew Ott and then Parker Hesse started as freshmen iirc, cant remember if they were redshirt freshmen. Both started because of injuries to starters iirc. Ott filled in for I Cant Remember but Hesse started for an injured OTT. In 2015 Ott was slated for a great season but injured his elbow pretty badly against ISU then went out with a knee injury in almost a non contact injury rushing a punter about mid-season.

Hesse came in and played well, made the great INT TD against NEbby, and had a great 4 year career.

This. With Hurkett returning, I'd expect he and Max LL to be the starters, and they've earned that. lose will get a shot to rotate with some of the guys you mentioned. Don't forget about Brain Allen Jr. who is primed to burst onto a bigger role as well...

I do watch and the freshman has to be way better that the upper classman. Better isn't enough. It has to be obvious then even at the QB position when it's obvious the game manager still plays.

We've had lots of true freshman play. Thats a fact. AJ played about 30% of the snaps as a freshman. I would imagine lose will be something similar. If he doesn't play its because we're rock solid at DE and thats a good thing either way....

I think he was originally a LB and did RS.

edit: looked it up, he did RS and started at DT as a FR in 2005. Matt Kroul started as a FR that year as well

I think Allen has a ton of upside as he’s a big boy at 6’4 and has a great burst as well
