You don’t like tough posting!Tough Board.
FIFYStill living rent free in my moms basement.
Agree. Ben talks a lot about this type of stuff on the show. Often catch myself thinking he seems like someone I’d send my own kid to train under. I think the results of his athletes shows he’s doing something right. On another note, it will be interesting to see how the McCort kids pan out in college. Bassetts, Forrest, Gibsons and some others seem to never take a break from training. From the 5am workouts in the basement to Young Guns and trips to M2 and NLWC, I don’t even see how they get any school work done. LolBased on what I know about the two youth programs discussed in here, I would be much more likely to send my kids to a program with Askren's philosophy vs. Sebolt's. Much more prone to burnout in that Sebolt philosophy. The primary goal is for the kid to love the sport, IMO, and that ideology isn't super conducive to that.

Well, school is all about prepping to make money, right? Consider this a starter fortune. That's because they go to "school"
That post got removed pretty quickly at least on Fb. The comments got pretty interesting. I’m sure Riggins transferred solely for educational purposes only and just merely a coincidence that he wrestles at 126Seen a post (that I can no longer find) from IAWrestle that max riggins has been cleared by the IHSAA to transfer from Bondurant to SEP. Guessing that should clear up some questions for you all.
Hmmmm. Surprised the coach at SEP didn’t let NJ move up AND provide scholastic opportunities for Riggins as well. That post got removed pretty quickly at least on Fb. I don’t think NJ has any interest in moving up, or wrestling for that matter.Hmmmm. Surprised the coach at SEP didn’t let NJ move up AND provide scholastic opportunities for Riggins as well.
Thanks. Would that be just current feelings or his position from the start?I don’t think NJ has any interest in moving up, or wrestling for that matter.

Have you read any of the past 9 pages? LolAll I want is a yes or no. NJ has officially quit wrestling?

There’s an 83% chance he didn’t. But there is also an 83% chance he did. Unfortunately there’s also an 83% chance that decision hasn’t been made. Personally I’m 83% sure it’s one of those three. All I want is a yes or no. NJ has officially quit wrestling?
I don’t think anything. But I am questioning reason. Burnout would be convenient but may leave out details, eh?You think he’s quit wrestling because his coach wouldn’t “allow” him to move up a weight?
That’s an interesting take.
Thank you. There’s an 83% chance he didn’t. But there is also an 83% chance he did. Unfortunately there’s also an 83% chance that decision hasn’t been made. Personally I’m 83% sure it’s one of those three.
You guys - he hasn't wrested a single match all year. State tournament is a month away. That should tell you something. Word is he has his sights on being a Navy seal which is admirable. I'm disappointed too, but that's the direction he chose and I'm fine with that too.Thank you.
I’m not from Iowa. You guys - he hasn't wrested a single match all year. State tournament is a month away. That should tell you something. Word is he has his sights on being a Navy seal which is admirable. I'm disappointed too, but that's the direction he chose and I'm fine with that too.
I'm disappointed as well, hate to see talent just get up and walk away. If he's truly lost his fire for the sport it's probably for the best. You guys - he hasn't wrested a single match all year. The body he will take into a Navy Seal program after wrestling in a D1 program (especially Iowa) will be a battered and beaten version of the one he has now.I'm disappointed as well, hate to see talent just get up and walk away. If he's truly lost his fire for the sport it's probably for the best.
I'd question Nate why not do both? Wrestle at a D1 program, get your degree, join the Navy and go through OCS, get commissioned then BUD/S and hopefully graduate from there in an officer position.
Danny Murphy would beg to differ. The body he will take into a Navy Seal program after wrestling in a D1 program (especially Iowa) will be a battered and beaten version of the one he has now.
He may be burnt out, he may feel satisfied with what he has accomplished as a wrestler or he may just have a higher or stronger calling.
Personally, I think if he wants to be a seal, he is going about it the correct way.
You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. The body he will take into a Navy Seal program after wrestling in a D1 program (especially Iowa) will be a battered and beaten version of the one he has now.
So you are saying all ex Iowa wrestlers are left with with battered body that means they cannot be a seal? I hope you are joking. Maybe you should ask Ken Leur or Steve Banach about that. I believe wrestling is a great preparation for being in the special forces. The body he will take into a Navy Seal program after wrestling in a D1 program (especially Iowa) will be a battered and beaten version of the one he has now.

I think it may be time to let Nate rest in peace until something changes.
This.So you are saying all ex Iowa wrestlers are left with with battered body that means they cannot be a seal? I hope you are joking. Maybe you should ask Ken Leur or Steve Banach about that. I believe wrestling is a great preparation for being in the special forces.
This.
Steve Banach said tonite he wouldn’t have been a Ranger, if not for the mental and physical training he received under coach Dan Gable at Iowa.
BTW he received a standing ovation from the crowd, which was well deserved.
