Nate Jesuroga?

I know a kid that's in the Iowa HS HOF. One of the best ever.

Pushed way too hard as a kid.

Big recruit out of high school.

Had a nervous breakdown in college. His dad was way too hard on him.

No college coach was going to fix him.

He was DONE with the sport.

My comments are not specific to any given wrestler, or coach, but I have seen a phenomenon where a top level youth competitor associated with a high level club "comes back to earth" as a collegian now quite a few times. I have seen this play out in wrestling, soccer, basketball, etc.

I think that some of the athletes have great success due to the high level coaching and drilling that they receive in their younger years. Also, confidence can wane once a given person cannot win nearly all of the contests and/or realize that others are equal to them or even inching ahead of them.

Someone coming from a club that is super dedicated to year round training, etc, can arrive to college and be pretty close to their max potential...while some others still have some room to "grow"...and do so...often overtaking the high performers from high school days.

In other words, there are many dynamics in play here and it really isn't valid to lay all of the explanation on any one coach or factor. Short version...very high performance as a youth doesn't guarantee high level success in college.
Saw a story recently about a HS wrestler (highly ranked) who was moving to OK to wrestle at Stillwater. It was reported that he was moving there with his parents and his private coach.

Private coach? Guess it had to happen one day…

This is what happens when money is no object, I’m guessing.

That's funny because I don't even see what I did there. LOL

I posted 100% the truth.

If you think I'm talking about Sebolt you are wrong.

This kid was a Hawkeye!

PS Don't ask for a name as I'm not giving it out.
Not a fan of this narrative. What you just described could be said about many club and HS programs, and not only in wrestling.

On top of that it ignores the success stories coming out of Sebolt that continue to permeate the upper echelons of the sport. I don’t see Sebolt’s club trajectory changing, that probably doesn’t make you happy but that’s the way it is.

I wouldn't say it's a "narrative" - we're going to find real quick how well Sebolt kids do at the next level. Cullan, as the 1st generation Sebolt matriculator - came in injured and it has continued to hamper him. (although is a one tough SOB to continue to compete while hurt)

So now, it's Jesuroga, Kueter, Block, Arnold to a lesser degree and a bunch of other guys. Jesuroga is currently a casualty, Kueter is going to struggle unless he commits to full time wrestling or Iowa doesn't make a bowl game, Block SHOULD do well, and Arnold seems to have jumped levels since joining.

I think everyone on this board has high hopes for Iowa scholastic wrestling, SWA's continued success and these guys becoming AAs and Champs for Iowa.

But just like you said, it can be said of many clubs and many sports. That doesn't make it ok, and that doesn't make it NOT a worry.

I don’t think too many people wish bad intentions for Sebolts program. Whether you agree with his training, program, etc he is still is a big feeder program for Iowa and other Iowa colleges. And we certainly want to keep our home grown talent in the state. But Iike Vhsalum is saying that his first wave of kids are entering college so it will be interesting to see how that translates into the college rooms in terms of success, injuries, burnout , or whatever.

Every one you mentioned are going to iowa. If they don't meet your expectations, why wouldn't you blame Tom?

it’s a narrative and it’s jumping the gun. And I’m damn sure these opinions don’t have as much as a Vegas line to fall back on.

Until you know the D1 AA and Champion production rate of programs similar to Sebolt at his point in development you don’t have a good first argument.

And just think about it, who on that list of programs would you use as a basis of comparison? The names are impressive. And that’s why you don’t have a second argument. You have to acknowledge his programs success to cite comparisons.

Make a compelling argument or post less. You’re invitation to the Player Haters Ball is in the mail.

I'm assuming Little Janey wears a Superman singlet.

Good for her.

So Ayala and Rathjen don’t count has Sebolt kids?

I've not checked on this thread for a week. I see that it has regressed akin to being on the 185th level of "The Platform"
💩💩

For those who haven't seen it, if you like weird movies that are pretty captivating, it's a must see.

You didn’t have much to say in the first place, why change now. And you didn’t get an invitation to TPHB. Didn’t qualify, weak sauce, although there are some who still believe you hate your mother. Maybe next year.

Wait, i'm confused now. Is it now a compliment to be invited to TPHB?

There are standards, not just anyone gets the invite. And to answer your questions some spend a lifetime perfecting their hate, to them it’s more than a compliment.

I see this thread got bumped to the top.

Just for those that maybe don't know, he hasn't wrestled a single match all year (22/23).

Tough sport.

More HawkMachine being HawkMachine. Now he has a friend in hate. The dynamic duo of dipshits.

Still living rent free in your head.

I was giving an UPDATE as many were wondering if he was wrestling or not.

You think I'm glad he's not? My god you are stupid.

LMFAO.
