***NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS SESSION II***

Feel bad for Cruz. I know there just aren’t enough adults that small to warrant a 118 weight class, but the guy just gets manhandled at 125. That wasn’t a technique issue one bit. That was a guy that much bigger, longer and stronger tossing him all over the place as soon as he got to his legs. mcCrone wanted him there…
Gotta admit...Iowa has a tendency to have undersized guys at many weights.
To me...that's a system problem.

9-2 with 30 seconds left in 1st period. Lets him up and proceeds to get 1 more TD over the next 4:30.

I disagree a bit (I know with you that’s a dangerous thing) I think it is a technique issue…in some respects. You have to create angles, especially when you’re the smaller guy. He didn’t do that. Eventually McCrone got used to the shot, timed him up and folder him like a chair. At this level if you take 8 straight on shots to the same leg with roughly the same set up, you’re gonna get caught.

I like Cruz, love his effort and heart. Unfortunately he’s just not big or talented enough to contend right now, and baring improvement in both areas, I hope he’s not a factor in Iowas 125 plans next March.

lol, nice try. It’s not like they have guys that aren’t cutting weight and are undersized across the board. Cruz is just an anomaly. He is simply to small for the smallest weight class there is and he gets absolute muscled by guys that are walking around well over 140…

You know what I mean cause I've been bitching for awhile.

TOO SHORT...continually getting stuck underneath on shots.
Not talking weight.
LOL

I get where you are coming from but he isn’t a sweep single guy, nor is he lightning fast He DID hit some misdirection shots with his head inside, but McCrone is so much longer he was able to catch his ankle every time.

Where the size and strength difference matter is that Cruz did transition properly with his hands, head and hips, but he simply wasn’t strong enough to clear his ankle EVER

To be clear, he had more than sufficient position and leverage where MOST DI wrestlers clear that ankle and finish. He just didn’t have the strength to do so.

Now, I do agree that near perfect technique would have probably worked. But, that is a pipe dream to expect. When the size and strength gap is that large, technique gets beat most of the time unless the skill gap matches.
