Nebraska may name Scott Frost new Head Coach on Nov 26, TWO days after Iowa game

How much are they paying each of the following and for how long?
Pelini
Riley

They will have to pay the next HC at least $5M, I would imagine....

Pelini is paid $128,000/month until February 2019.

Riley would be owed $170,000/month until February 2021 (less if he finds another coaching job)

Eichorst was owed $1.7 million on a contract that ran thru June 2019. That may have been all paid out already

I always thought Frost was a guy with integrity. I would be very surprised if he is talking to anyone until the season is over. In fact, I thought he said as much.

He probably isn't talking to anyone directly.....but you can bet he's agent is

He will likely be far more successful at Florida than he will at Nebraska. The Florida athletes are plentiful and excellent. Nebraskans? Not so much. We shall see.

You could almost make this statement about every team in the SEC. Athletes are plentiful and excellent. His path to a divisional championship might be easier in the B1G west. It's really just Wisky right now.

The SEC East is really just Georgia right now. The SEC East is likely the worst division in FBS this season. Turnaround and success will come a lot faster at Florida than it would at Nebraska.

A client of mine is a donor and suite holder. Take it for what it’s worth, but he told me two scenarios. 1st from his main source it’s a done deal. 5 mil, 5 year, and they ask Riley to stay front office. His other guy said if for whatever reason #1 didn’t happen, they are opening up the checkbook for Chris Petersen.

Chris Peterson? Why in the world would Nebraska bring in another west coast football coach? It hasn't worked out well for them already. It's different playing in the Big Ten. Big Lines and you have to play defense.

On second thought.... bring him in!

Perhaps. But his assumptions about allegiances are incorrect, so probably not.

There are actually 3 CCs in Linoclon, and they are as nice as anything you find in Iowa....well I guess the at least in comparison to the ones where I have been a guest - CRGCC, Elmcrest, DMGCC, and Wakonda...plus the two in Iowa where I was a member - Ames, and Glen Oaks. FWIW we're gonna have a table full of Hawk fans at dinner there after the game in Friday.

They'll probably appreciate it if you don't bring out the VHS tapes.

Chris Petersen? You mean the Washington Huskies coach who took his team to the CFP last season and was a CFP contender late into this season. He has Washington competing for PAC titles yearly now. Why would he leave a program he has on cruise for a rebuild job like Nebraska? Husker fans are delusional.

Unbelievable. Why do coaches have all the power in these contracts?

I've heard many names thrown around.......first time I've heard Chris Petersen. To me, very, very unlikely.

Calm down Debbie. It makes me laugh and I love to laugh. Is Lee still declaring for the NFL after this year? Any 4 or 5 star recruits you want to brag about?
Chill Hissey! Is Wadley even going to make the short list (or long list) for a running back in the NFL? Any 2 or 3 star recruits you want to brag about or are you all going to continue to worry about Scott Frost. At least Nebraska has a way out. Iowa is trending down and is stuck with a Ferentz from here to eternity. We'll all tune into this message board five years from now and the best creative thread will be "FIRE KIRK."

This plus no longer playing in the pillow fight known as the Big 8 - 12.
Told by some insiders the upfront lineman situation is pretty bad over at Nebby and will take a couple years to rebuild. Poor S&C, recruiting and coaching has it below average and not much to look forward to in the near future. This was Rileys downfall - he didn't understand the importance of the lines - thought he could out scheme the west.
Now thats funny. So they have upgraded strength of schedule by joining the big 10 west?

“Restore the Order” again and again and again....

I don't know why you would want that job. Incredibly high expectations, terrible recruiting area, a legacy that is old enough that current recruits weren't even born yet, an old fan base that assumes the program should be as good as it was in the 90's, and you are living in Nebraska.

If Frost is a hot commodity, he would be smart to avoid that job. He'll get paid just as much if not more at another program that is the complete opposite of all of those factors.

The Nebraska job sucks across the board.

Personally, I'm not quite convinced he will be the next head coach at Nebraska.

Nebraska is not what it used to be. Yet, fans still expect 10 wins a season and Big 10 titles. Great expectations ... but no longer a reality at Nebraska.

For whatever reason, Nebby has made several bad coaching decisions. The hiring of Riley never made sense to me; nor did the Callahan hire.

Maybe the allure of returning to Nebby will be hard for him to pass up. However, the pressure will be intense. Sure, he will get some slack but in today's cut-throat coaching world he won't get long to produce results acceptable to Big Red fans.

Personally, I thought they should not have dumped Solich (58-19).

Nebby is more on par with Iowa now (yet their fans would never admit that). Nebby isn't "the place to go" as a player or coach.

Nebby is a "nice" program but the glory days are behind it.

Interesting comments, and I largely agree. Nebraska is not the destination it COULD have been, but it is still a school with a historic presence in CFB. And Frost could be the guy to bring NU back to its historic levels. We'll see.

Nebraska also, likely, represents a gigantic paycheck that would guarantee security for the Frost family for life, potentially to the children of the son they just gave birth to. That would be hard for me to pass up. Of course others like the Volunteers are also out looking, Arkansas will probably be in the hunt and who knows what other teams.

As far as your comment about Iowa and Nebraska being on the same level, I believe you do a disservice to Iowa. Iowa has won some things recently, beaten a top 10 or 5 team, been in the hunt for division titles, and so on. Nebraska, in my mind, is decidedly behind Iowa right now. And as maddening as the last couple weeks have surely been, Iowa has shown more upside than Nebraska, generally speaking, in the last few years.

With the right coach and staff, and a few years, I think Nebraska can come back to prominence.

A hire like Frost is probably going to get 5-6 years to get things in order, as long as there is consistent progress. A homegrown Husker as coach? Yeah, I think he gets more leeway than the average. If he wants to come.

There are lots of great reasons to stay at UCF as well. I live in Tampa so I see UCF news and know Orlando pretty well. It's a very nice city, great recruiting, perfect weather. Great place to raise a family. And, if Frost is patient, UCF may be able to pay Nebraska or Iowa level money in 5-7 years if the success continues and fan support increases.

Whatever happens, it sure is fascinating to watch. And I hope that Frost returns to Lincoln of course, but I will be happy to see him succeed wherever he goes, if anywhere.

If Iowa is trending down then Nebraska is an absolute dumpster fire. ISU fans are even laughing at you.

Think again. He and Bill Moos (our new AD) have a tight relationship. He was the receivers coach at Oregon for 6 years while Moos was the AD at Oregon, and developed a strong relationship there. His buyout is less than $1.5 mil. His son needs special medical attention that he cannot get easily in WA. There is a special medical program at UNMC (Ne Med School) that can handle the situation rather easily. Thus, there is some real interest by Petersen, and it wouldn't surprise me if he's not #1 or #2 on the list.

He can’t get medical attention for his son in seattle/bellvue? Keep dreaming.

Have yet to hear craig bohls name thrown around. He was the likely candidate for a ling time, now, nothing.

I think of all the candidates I've heard of, short of Chris Peterson, I think he is the one guy that understands what you need to win in a place like Nebraska. (Physical, run the ball etc)

Bohl has never been a likely candidate. His age probably his biggest detriment. Was not a good defensive coordinator here in the early 2000s, but he has turned into a fine head coach.

It seems Florida and Tennessee have both backed off on Frost quite a bit. He's either staying at UCF or he's coming back to Nebraska.

His son, Sam, when he was 1, was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor that had spread into his spine. Sam is now 18 or 19 and is cancer free from last reports I've heard and has been for several years now.

There is NO WAY he takes the NEB job over the FLA job if offered. Would make little to no sense,...but I guess he did graduate from Nebraska

Great perspective and post!

I think it is a mistake for Nebraska to go all in on Frost without really taking a look at what they need to succeed going forward. He is the popular pick because of the ties but making a hire too fast could backfire. I also don't think it would happen that fast. I am not sure that it would be a better job.

Why did Frost go to Stanford his 1st 2 years of college did Nebraska not offer or did he want to go elsewhere it doesn't make any difference I just wondering.

Bill Walsh, and Frost believed, he could turn Frost into the next Joe Montana. Walsh tinkered with his throwing mechanics and what not and he never gained any footing to QB any of Walsh's teams. Walsh then asked Frost to try safety, but his heart was set on playing QB. Frost reached out to Osborne, who actually encouraged Frost to stick it out at Stanford, at least through the following spring, to see if things improved, but Frost wanted to come back home and try to play QB.
