Maybe I missed it, but I did not see a mention of Nelson Brands' finish on here. Wasn't he ranked in the high teens most of the season? His 5th place finish is nothing short of phenomenal. How did he do that? He managed to turn something around. Some one coached him up but good! I am in awe of his season (career?) finish.

Well there's a thread dedicated to Nelson (and 2 about firing his uncle) so yeah, Brands was not overlooked.

I think the broken collar bone last fall hampered him more than people know. He mentioned the accident post match. He's a bruiser and I think it took time to get right to wrestle his style.

All season long he has been very hard to score on. He’s a great hand fighter and very stingy on defense. It seems something clicked a little bit for him this weekend and he was willing to pull the trigger on offense a little more.

He’s been feeling better, and he just wrestled a hell of a tournament. He’s a good example of the real impact injuries can have on performance. I don’t think it was a coincidence that he turned up his attack rate this weekend. I think he felt more comfortable and confident that his body was able to execute what his mind wanted to do. That, and he’s a tough competitor who wanted it and went after it.

Had the pleasure of riding the elevator with him after the medal round. Was great to see his teammates back at the hotel welcoming him with smiles and high fives. He was in good spirits — not content, because he wanted 3rd, but he knew he had competed well.

Super young man, and it was great to see him able to compete at a level consistent with his ability. His body language all session was fantastic — much more like the Nelson we know.

2nd thread but was a joy to watch him wrestle at Ncaas this year. He let it fly and he is pretty dang good wrestling that way
