I love how the fans are projecting one or the other at 125. I heard Teasdale had to be taken to a hospital in Las Vegas and almost had organ failure at the US Open trying to make 121, which is why he hasn't competed since the Open and that weigh-in was for a night before weigh-in where guys can severely dehydrate and then have a full day to recover and he missed the weight. Does anyone realize that it's almost 2-years before he would step on the mat as a true freshman at the NCAA Championships. Young has already been wrestling 132 and Teasdale will in all likelihood be at 132 this year, maybe he cuts to 128 at year end... I think they both end up at 133, but who knows, hard to gauge with an entire senior year to go and then 7 months of the true freshman year. Bottom line, making the weight is one thing, but wrestling the same day is another. They are both great wrestlers, but I don't see them being able to make 125.

This right here. They have been projecting RBY and Teasdale at anywhere from 125-141 depending on if Suriano stays or not. But then Lee is a small 41 so where are all these guys going to get slotted? We did the same mental gymnastics with Lee, Teasdale, Mejia, and Renteria and it cost us two of them with Teasdale also eventually flipping. A weird set of events is bringing Mejia back into the fold but at a reduced price.

I disagree here. I think he's going to be awesome. I think he's a better prospect than RBY, too. You never know how someone can develop, obviously, but I think Tesdale has a ton of upside and will develop well in that room.

I think RBY will be the better out of the two. However, just wondering why you think Teasdale will develop well in that room?

I think his skillset is more translatable. I think his attacks are crisp and clean now, with no collegiate training, and I think they're only going to get better. I think he's more naturally athletic, too, which increases his upside. I thought he was better when he was going to Iowa City, and I think he's still better. I think he would have been better off at Iowa, but that's his call. Wish he was still going to be wearing black and gold.

Whether at 125, 133, or an all star exhibition match i hope to someday see Spencer Lee vs Gavin TeasUdale. Something tells me it would get fiesty! There is a huge maturity level gap between the two currently imo. They are both still just kids quickly becoming men, ready or not.

I wasn't overly impressed with his match with Decatur. Also, he's really a year older than his grade which I think mutes his upside somewhat. I wouldn't be shocked if he does not see the light of day with RBY and Lee in a logjam at 33 and 41. He's not making 25. Maybe he will be real good, who knows? My bet is against him being a world beater.

As far as recruits go, I was much happier to get Warner.

Agree but I was still sick to lose him.

Oh, I agree on Warner. He's going to be a monster!

I was sick to lose Teasdale as well and wish he was still going to be a Hawkeye. He fits in perfectly. I agree with all of the above. Teasdale had a bad match against Decatur. He's the better wrestler. I think Decatur lost twice at Ironman later that year and one of those losses was dominant. Teasdale is a great wrestler and will be a great college wrestler, but he's been wrestling college guys and college ready guys for years. RBY lives and trains in AZ. No way he has the same level of partners as Teasdale has had through the years. Upside to RBY. I've heard that Nick Lee will be at 133 this year even if he shirts. So, if Nick moves up to 141 after that it leaves RBY and Teasdale at 133 in my opinion and that is going to make for some great wrestle offs leaving a potential top 5 guy on the sidelines. Nice problem for Cael to have, but someone is not going to get in 4-seasons of post season and they are both tough. 125 is hard to hold for five years. Most don't and history supports that. Hell, I think Tom Brands wrestled 120 his senior year in HS didn't he and he ended up at 133 early in his college career. I think that Teske is also going to end up at 133 in 2 years I really do. Spencer Lee has a redshirt and an Olympic Shirt, so there's flexibility there that PSU does not have. If Teske goes to PSU, they might all three end up at 133...

It might be best for psu if suriano wrestles this year. It makes 125 a little bit tougher for NATO to win.
I agree, but NATO, after wrestling up a weight last year at 133 is going to not have much "fun" cutting back down... Let's see if he can make that weight work again. I do agree it's best for TOSU if he can make it and Pletcher is willing to go down as well.

I thought he was big for 133 too.

It seems most who speculate on PSU possibly benefitting from Suriano wrestling this season are making two assumptions -- first, that NaTo is going 125, second that Suriano would also go 125. I'm not confident in making the same assumptions, especially the latter.

Also, the injury picture for tOSU and PSU come Feb/March will determine whether PSU needs any help from anyone. Until then . . .

Yeah I should have said, "if their both at 25." It's definitely questionable for both.

i believe Gavin and Spencer are only like 6 months apart in age. I remember Spencer saying something in an interview about that.

I know this is contrary to the 133 logjam narrative some of you are trying to manufacture but Nick Lee was a huge 141 this past season and there is serious doubt he will be at 141 as a true freshman.

RE: Gavin's upside, he also started wrestling late, if I recall correctly. I think some are underselling his upside.

Gavin has had world class training and partners at YG...all year around. Many Young Guns have gone on to titles and AA early on in their careers which speaks to the job Jody and co have done. RBY doesn't have those types of partners in the room every day nor even close to the type of competition that PA has every weekend or just in western PA.

Anything like the narrative Penn State fans manufactured when Lee, Mejia, Renteria, Teasdale were all in the Iowa "log jam"? Or is that somehow different. It goes both ways

Totally fair counterpoint.

No he wasn't...watch this match against Ben Freeman at 138...Freeman wrestled his senior year at 140 and looks bigger than Lee...this was in April. Lee looked small compared to Synon from Mizzou as well in the opens.

First off, count me in the camp that doesn't think Teasdale can make 125 for an entire season effectively. If he happens to go 125 as a true freshman, there is a chance that he is in a weight with Suriano, Lee, and Fix. He's a very good prospect, but I would be surprised if he was overly competitive with any of those guys.

Okay, perfect. Shall we move him to the logjam at 149, then?

So I know this was said kind of as a joke, but I think you're exactly right here!

I think Gavin and RBY take care of 33/41 when they come around...1 goes as a true Frosh st 33 and the other shirts while Cortez goes 141 next year. Then Cortez is gone and one is at 141 or they swap red shirt status the following year because they're both still 33s (which I don't see happening)

The log jam is 149 and up to me...you've got a growing Lee, and both Verk and Berge claim to be 149 capable...even if you give them 157 between that trio, someone still sits and the other Lee enters next year looking like a 157/165 candidate too! So you have 1 or 2 high end guys sitting right there!

Then move to 165/174/184 where PSU has Cenzo/Hall/Bo/(Rasheed?) with Manville coming in this year and Wittlake the following year...someone (or 2 if young Lee ends up at 165) in that group sits somewhere along the line.

It's an embarrassment of riches for PSU and "a good problem to have," but Cael has his work cut out for him with juggling line ups and keeping guys happy over the next few seasons.

Back to my original point, I don't think Gavin and RBY are going to be part of any log jam issues at PSU, but log jams somewhere seem inevitable! Should be interesting to see how it all plays out!
