*****Offical 2022 Recruiting Thread*****

Success on the field cures all.
Not only the winning ... but recruits see how tightly knit the players are ... and the true affection that is felt between both the players and the coaching staff. There has to be a lot of allure in that. Furthermore, given all the negative recruiting other programs have been doing against Iowa ... the sort of season that the Hawks are putting on is going to show that most of it is rubbish.

Mind you ... that's not to say that the Iowa didn't have a negative environment previously ... however, I think that it is becoming increasingly clear to recruits that that environment was not intentionally hostile. Furthermore, steps have been taken to empower the players (and their families) ... so that the players are protected from that sort of thing again.

What's great ... the players have come out of the whole experience with a renewed sense of accountability (since they ARE empowered) ... and that is DEFINITELY translating to the field!

I believe Allen was the guy waiting on a psu offer that never came so he had to settle between Illinois and Iowa and chose his home state team. Unless we are really in need of a de and have no other good options, i would pass on him personally.

Paschal steers recruits to Iowa, so that doesn't make sense
Paschal isn't employed by Iowa. That is the difference. There are rules in place to deter schools from hiring HS coaches to get recruits. Now, I think what happened here is Iowa was waiting for word from the NCAA on whether it could recruit Allen because while Manson was at this school I think they were only there together for a very short period of time and he might not even had a chance to coach him yet. He is now clear to go to Iowa.

Why? To me he seems like a good prospect. Athletic and can play either inside or out.

Because i hold grudges, take things too personally, don't like to kiss was and don't trust people in general. All things that would make me a lousy recruiter.

Not questioning the kids talent or ability to help the Hawks.

It’s a long way till signing day and with Iowa’s success and other teams less than stellar performances, you are going to see kids look at Iowa and say, maybe I should get on board with what they are doing in IC.

Oh, and………

Panties in a bunch, I imagine, over at CF. Johnson was the premier rb recruit for them until he committed to Cal.

They'll likely have some excuse that some lower rated guy that they did get is that "hidden gem" that lil Matty really wanted.

Johnson and Patterson is quite the catch for KF.

I know Hinzman had a top 3 of Wisconsin, OSU, and Minnesota. Has anyone heard anything on this front? Kind of assuming Iowa is out of it, but curious.

This class will likely be the same size as always, right about 20. That seems to be the right number to account for attrition and early entries to the NFL. Next year we should have some real opportunities at a great class with this years performance. Last years recruiting class and this year are very very good for Iowa standards.

Well, we have 11 now. What math takes you to 20?

Highly, highly doubt we take 20. I'd say 16 max.
Let's split the difference and go for 18. Somehow, with graduation, NFL and the portal, 18 seems to be a reasonable number.

Fwiw - I believe the staff already knows which players could be leaving and will be helpful/supportive in finding them a new home. Players that are loyal and hardworking but won't be seeing the field anytime soon will not be thrown to the curb, like they tend to be at other programs.

So who's jumping on the Hawkeye Express next?
Watch the decommit list on other sites and it'll give you a good idea. The three guys mentioned are probably the next most likely to decommit/commit.

My bet is Hall.

I was told the next one will be a big time surprise. We will see if they are right.

I imagine every HC sits down with kids at the end of the season and has an honest discussion of the guy's future.

In fact, I also got the impression that this stuff about the disgruntled kids that joined in the lawsuit was also largely from players that were told they were buried on the depth chart.

Any idea if it’s Allen, Membou or Hall or someone else?
No clue. Didn't ask and that's all he said. I wouldn't count any of them as big surprises at this point though because it seems all signs point to being Hawks with them 3 so I'm guessing someone else.

***KALEB JOHNSON Commits to IOWA***
I don't usually watch recruiting videos. Watched Kaleb's. Damn he looks big and fast! Trying to think who he reminds me of and Shonn Greene comes to mind. What say you? Really excited to see what this man can do!

I cannot find a scholarship distribution chart, but I count 13 seniors on scholarship. We know one underclassman left the program already. I anticipate at minimum another 3-5 will leave the program and possibly enter the portal at the end of the year. So we have 14 spots right now likely 15 with my analysis below of Linderbaum likely going. So we almost always oversign by 3 and work it out. That leaves us a minimum of 18.

We have 4 players who could possibly opt for the NFL - Taylor, Goodson, Linderbaum and Campbell. I don't know what their percentages are, 1 for sure the other 3 are tossups. I really hope Taylor stays here 2 more years. We could try to pick up 1-2 players in the portal.

Adrian Peterson or Melvin Gordon is who he reminded me of.
