*****Offical 2022 Recruiting Thread*****

I agree with pretty much everything you say, but I still believe you should get 3-4 defensive linemen in every class, no matter how deep you are.
I was just speculating too.

I'm sure that Coach Bell and Niemann are of the opinion that they'll take as many high-quality guys as they can get.

Unfortunately, injuries happen ... and if you don't have depth ... injuries can dramatically impact the W-L column.

As fan as the 2015 season was ... what happens against MSU if the Hawks have a healthy Drew Ott?

Even though the 2006 season was viewed a bit as a season of the "fat cats" ... what happens that season if Mitch King and Kenny Iwebema aren't significantly dinged through much of the season?

A big part of our success in recent years has been linked to a renewed emphasis on keeping the DL well-stocked ... and ALSO rotating more guys to build a larger pool of experienced depth.

Anyhow, going along the lines of what you're saying ... more of Iowa's older depth on the DL is currently at DE ... so I would surmise that if the Hawks are still looking at guys on the DL for the 2022 class ... they MUST be looking at guys who project well at DE.

Even aside from any chatter out there about Deyo's grades ... I could definitely see that a "limitation" with Deyo is that he's a pure DT. Given all the young, talented guys who are currently gaining experience for the Hawks at DT ... the bigger need appears to be at DE. Thus, with Graves potentially developing into being more like Yahya Black ... being a "big" DE-type who can also be successful at DT. That allows us to prioritize more to get a guy who might be a better edge-defender.

I mistakenly assumed Xavier committed to Iowa after seeing his pic on the main page. Would be cool to have a 2005 type recruiting year where they actually pan out this time.

Beat me to the share! Good work!

I wonder if this points at a lean back towards the Hawks ... or has to deal more with disappointment about the Illini?
Someone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought I heard Kakert say something to the effect of Allen couldn’t come to Iowa because of NCAA regulations. Something about Jason Manson being a coach or admin at his school and steering prospects to his alma mater.
I’d love to have him if he wants to be at Iowa.

Thanks for the info ... I was clueless about that.

Still seems strange though ... because there are a ton of high school coaches out there who steer players to their alma maters.

Paschal steers recruits to Iowa, so that doesn't make sense

It’s a long way till signing day and with Iowa’s success and other teams less than stellar performances, you are going to see kids look at Iowa and say, maybe I should get on board with what they are doing in IC.

And in regards to the kid that committed and has now de-committed to Illini….

I’m not sure but that would make no sense if true. We were in his final 2 when he committed to Illinois

Do we think the staff might try and take a little bigger class than expected if they can get a couple extra guys they are really high on to really try and capitalize on this year's success? Guys are going to leave so chances are things would probably work themselves out.
