*****Offical 2022 Recruiting Thread*****

I’m high on a guy like Jeremiah Pittman. True frosh, already 3 bills, and a very good motor. Mike Daniels starter kit.
Absolutely ... love the rapport he seems to have with Coach Bell too. A lot of trust there ...

Big guys often take a little time for their technique to catch up with their size ... but Pittman could definitely end up developing into a good one for us. I agree ... I'm excited about that young man too!

And Reames, Llewelynn, Bowie and Bruce.
I'll be really curious about the development of some of these guys ...

... in high school, Llewellyn was initially a guy with a WR skill set who then had one hell of a growth spurt ... and ended up with a DE body. The allure of "small-guy" skills and explosiveness with a "big-guy" body is what attracted programs like Penn State to give him an offer. I'm excited about what we might see from this young man at DE ... sometime in the years to come.

... in high school, Bruce was a man among boys ... having an absurd combination of athleticism, speed, and size. Consequently, I expect that having those advantages while playing small-town football got him "caught behind" in terms of technique. We're talking about a young man who is reputed to have 4.6 speed ... but plays in the trenches! I think that Bruce has a chance to rapidly earn more snaps for the Hawks once his technique matches his physical gifts. Given the coaching of Coach Bell and Coach Niemann ... that may end up just being a matter of time!

I wouldn't be shocked if the Hawks re-evaluated their recruiting needs after the spring. After seeing the emergence of young guys like Van Ness, Jones, Craig, and Hurkett over the spring ... on top of already being high on guys like Lee and Black ... they may have determined that given the size of Graves ... maybe they determined that they were already "full" at DT. Consequently, maybe they decided that they had more need at DE instead?

You have to remember ... Griffin Liddle was a pretty impressive DT prospect from the '21 class. The very fact that they already had him shift to OL points to them feeling pretty comfortable with who they have at DT.

Given the perceived strength of personnel at DT ... let's entertain the possibility that the kid really is a possible academic liability. The Hawks have been known to go after guys like that before ... however, usually those guys have ridiculously high ceilings ... guys like Nixon.
Lets not do this, you have no evidence to state that he is an academic liability, and even if you did, we are better than this. It came during a lull in Iowa recruiting, and ISU was recruiting extremely well (for ISU). His brother is an ISU fan, and it appears his coach is no fan of Iowa.

coach is prolly a Nebby fan and the kiss has just blown his mind................to be serious he dumbfounded me with the ISU = family, IA is business line. Really a bad take on his part and shows some bias.

There is in fact evidence though. KSU and Oregon backed off for the same reasons. It's well documented.

Fact of the matter is, there is no justification for speaking ill of the kid. At this point it is a hypothetical situation where he won't qualify, even if it is questionable.
Oh, I’m not speaking ill. I’m sure he’s a good kid, he’s just struggling in the classroom. I hope he figures everything out and does some great things in his life. I think he will. He’ll just need a year or two of JC.

Sorry to pile on, but as has been mentioned several times, it’s obvious there was a reason he wasn’t a “take” for Iowa, KSU, and Oregon. If he doesn’t qualify, if that was even the issue, that doesn’t change the likelihood that there was risk. You won’t have to eat crow. If he qualifies, neither will anybody else. If anybody is saying is he stupid, that is uncalled for.

To be fair, I’m sure the same could be said for Patterson. The RB Iowa got from Florida. Obviously he wasn’t a take for the Alabamas of the world anymore. We can live in reality. The reality is, Iowa wasn’t a take for Deyo, and Patterson wasn’t a take for Bama.

Patterson wasn't a take for Bama because they already got their guys.

I’m pretty sure it was more than that. Likely the weight gain his Junior year was a factor.

I don’t think Bama was the only team that likely passed. I think he is back to the level that those teams offered him at, but I’m not so naive as to believe he still had all those offers 6 months ago.

The comments from the Deyo family tells me they're having second thoughts about ISU and are trying to justify the commitment. And I don't blame them because the perception that schools backed off because of academic reasons implies the kid was left with only one option. That' can be hard to accept when you're a highly regarded high schooler.

As others have said... he's likely a good kid that put so much emphasis on being a good football player that he lost track of priorities. Good luck to the kid. If he makes it to D-1 football, good luck in games not involving the Hawks.

Indianola definitely a good team, a good solid group, but they don't really have any standouts, especially on the OL. The RB may be the only one who could get FBS interest, and I'd doubt it'd be P5 interest. A guy with Deyo's ratings and offers should've been blowing up the interior of that OL consistently and it didn't happen. He got some penetration at times, but nothing consistently and again he didn't have much of a motor, gave up on a lot of plays if the action wasn't coming his way. I noticed he also was taken out pretty frequently especially in the 2nd half. He'd be in, then I'd look on the next series and #71 (another big kid) was in his spot on the DL, then the next series he'd be back out there. Not sure if he was hurt or just gassing.
Indianola's safety is getting Iowa interest as a walk on.

Good time for a solid bump on this thread. Xavier gets the CB, Kaleb Johnson had the prediction from rivals earlier, and now a CB. I didn't even realize TJ Hall was visiting this week.
I think Johnson and Hall decommit this week, and maybe potentially commit to us in the week too. Unless disaster strikes, Nwankpa is a Hawkeye. I also think if his recruitment were to end today, Proctor would pick Iowa.

I agree with pretty much everything you say, but I still believe you should get 3-4 defensive linemen in every class, no matter how deep you are.

I hope they can pull in both Johnson and Hall. I wonder if Hall waits awhile to commit though since he has committed twice before. He may want to wait. Having both Patterson and Johnson at RB in a class would be probably the best ever RB class for Iowa. I would have to check that. EDIT: The best since 2005. Also, there have been some absolutely horrible RB classes for Iowa over that period.

Also, surely seems like Nwankpa is trending to Iowa. Iowa just has to keep taking care of business on the field this year and I think you will see some big names for '23 start to jump on board as well.

If we get a big name early in 2023, the rest will follow. Hopefully that big name is Kyler Kasper, to attract a top tier QB.
