Theo hasn't been that great at signing FA pitchers.
I think I saw that $80 million number, but in the article it mentioned you are going to have to invest a portion of that in bumps for arb eligible guys, and that number includes Strop's $6 million. You can let him walk, but you have to find someone that can take those innings.
I'm not doom and gloom. It will be good to free up Zobrist's salary (Currently going unpaid, anyway), Hammels, Morrow and Chatwood, but you have to fill out the innings. Zobrist is easily the cheapest guy to replace. God bless him for 2016, and being a pro who works at his game, but his numbers can be replaced. Hammels and Strop will not be so easy to replace.
Descalso should not be on the field. I understand his ability to play multiple positions half way decent but he looks lost at the plate most at bats. My assumption is they are hoping Happ tears up AAA so they can parley him into a decent P trade but, please give him innings at 2nd in AAA so he can be used there in case this Zobrist divorce doesn’t work out.

They are going to score a lot of runs usually. You just have to out slug them.

If you put that to even a 75% save percentage (15/20), they would currently be up 5 games. Very frustrating to not be able to close the deal.
I was at the game....crowd wasn't in it...it was cold. We left in the 5th....the smokeshow girlfriend was really cold. Disappointed to get back to the hotel and see Cishek shit the bed. Need a closer, need one fast.

Nah, Cubs don't need a real closer. This bullpen is just fine and will be elite when Strop returns.
Not sure how many games the bullpen has to blow before people on this thread realize that. Cubs can't win every game 10-9.
Theo Einstein is a stable genius. You don't need to be a baseball wizard to realize Theo is either braindead, stubborn, or ownership has his hands tied.
BTW: A not so subtle brag... My freshman grandson pitched in his first varsity 3A game the other day and got the save. Should he expect a call from Sir Theo?

Sign Kimbrel June 1 and he needs 2-3 weeks in extended spring to get facing hitters again plus maybe a minor league stint. Then I bet he still has at least two stretches on the shelf this season.
That's fine. I just hope if the Cubs do get Kimbrel, that the reaction isn't just "Woo hoo! Bullpen solved!". Kimbrel will require ramp-up and I think he'll have multiple injury issues. Hopefully I'm wrong.
Question on luxury tax cap....The Cubs did not pay Addison Russell for the first 30 games and they're not paying Zobrist now. I assume that means roughly 20% of Russell's salary and whatever amount they don't pay Zobrist comes off the Cubs luxury tax cap? I guess if not, it's at least cash in pocket to put toward luxury taxes if they go over later.

He's a veteran and will be ready to go right away. The injury concern is just an excuse you're trying to make for Einstein in case he doesn't get him.
