*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

You think Kimbrel is just sitting around eating cheeseburgers and drinking chocolate malts?

He's a veteran and will be ready to go right away. The injury concern is just an excuse you're trying to make for Einstein in case he doesn't get him.

Theo better do something. This shit they're marching out there right now is pathetic.

I guarantee he's throwing regularly, starting in shape and all that, but there's a huge difference between that and MLB live game reps. On top of the fact that he wasn't great to finish last season.

Better plan on never seeing Morrow again. Getting Strop back will help. Need another arm and Ciseck will be fine. I've been happiest so far with Chatwood out of the pen. Throws hard and eating up innings.

Who should the Cubs go out and grab to bolster the bullpen?
I happened to listen to the evening show on the Score and they threw out Alex Colome from the White Sox. He'd probably cost two quality players due to his contract controlled status. The Sox are one, or two years away, and would certainly look to add players.
Shane Greene from the Tigers will be available, although he is into his arb years and will come with a bigger payroll investment.
Both of these teams have a history of trading with the Cubs, and I do believe GMs do
I believe the entire SF bullpen is about to become available, and I would certainly look at Mark Melancon as a late inning reliever, but not as a closer.
Throw some names out there. Who would you give up in return? In the Sox scenario I heard on the Score the Cubs shipped Montgomery and Happ to the Sox.

Well, cross another potential closer off the list... Caratini!

Although he didn't do any worse then the current bullpen guys.

Reds would be a WS threat if all they did was play the Cubs.

How lucky can a team get? Houston's three best players not in the lineup.

Should be an EASY win for the Cubbies.

No KB or Javy equalize things a bit. EDIT: Duh, Javy is DH.
Yep, he played and Cubs fans probably wished he didn't today.

Five, count em, five...KOs. That's Giancarlo territory.

Yikes. And yet... pitching is still the issue with this team.

This team sucks
They'll be fine because... well, look at the NL. It's the LAD/Cubs and the rest are dog shit

BTW: By the looks of things... Theo might need to make a call to Cleveland and inquire about Hand. I think they'll be a fire sale by the Indians at the trade deadline..

In the NL, who isn't trying besides the Marlins? AL leaders get to fatten up on Baltimore, Toronto, Detroit and Kansas City.

But yes, the Cubs will have every chance to make a run.

There's a reason that the teams you mentioned have such poor records. There are major extremes in the AL and teams like TB/Minn/Houston/NYY have absolutely pummeled those four teams. So the question... are the good teams that good or are the others that bad?

I don't really know because I still don't know what to think about the Twins.

But I use the same logic with the comparative records of so many NL teams. Are they really that even or are so few teams capable of dominating?

The biggest surprises in MLB, to me, are Minny/Cleveland/SF... so far.

What's surprising about SF? It is somewhat surprising that they do not have the worst record in MLB with how horrible their roster is.

Lots of talk on the Torres trade but the Jimenez and Cease (and 2 others) for Jose freaking Quintana is the one that will haunt Cubs fans the worst, especially since they will be emerging crosstown. Other than heyward signing, Theo did a spectacular job through 16. Since '17 started he's been terrible. There's a long list of bad contracts he had with the Red Sox....they generally weren't devastated when he left and have won as many rings since he's been gone.

What's great is Theo took ownership after last season, although putting the sense of urgency on maddon and players when he hasn't done a great job is a bit of a cop out. He's still one of the best but he'd be the first to admit he can do better. It's a tough job

I'm not sure it's so much a cop-out as really the only option. He can't undo the moves he's made and in spite of his relative failings, the team on the field ran out of gas last year and did not play up to full potential. This is a good baseball team, but developing pitching has been the #1 failing, which has forced the team into deals and big signings.

Lots of bad things happening recently...

—Bryant hurt again
—Javy still hurt? Platinum sombrero yesterday
—Old pitchers coming back to Earth, specifically Lester and Hamels
—Bullpen a complete trainwreck with no closer
—Heyward and Descalso worthless at the plate

Need to get healthy and make some moves.

^^^^^This is the most objective view I've read on this thread in the last six months.

No one can believe Descalso was a better option than TLS. Career BA <240 and two years older. LOL! Baez is the modern day Vlad Guerrero... high risk/high reward. You don't have to throw strikes to get him out.

Another thing I see happening is a guy like Bote coming back to Earth. He's been thoroughly scouted now.

The current team, with a shitty farm system, has a very, very narrow window for success. The Cubs have only three above average players on the batting roster right now and it's doubtful the team will have all of them in five years.

I guess maybe I'm coming to agreement that the Chapman trade was a good one. I don't see this team contending for another WS as it's structured right now.

Need some help from the resident Cubs fans here. My 17 year old asked for a KB jersey for his birthday, even said a cheap Chinese knockoff is fine. So other than buying an authentic Majestic jersey from the MLB Shop, anybody have any ideas where I can get a cheaper version online without it being total crap?

Ehh, just saw where Fans Edge has authentic jerseys on sale for $90. Might just do that. But if anyone has any other options I would still like to hear them.

Tell him that adults wear shirseys

Anything less than authentic, authorized merchandise is stealing from the team.

A slight bit of good news on the development of pitching in the organization, Adbert Alzolay is back. In his two starts with Iowa he has thrown 11 innings with 2 ER and 15 strikeouts. He has legitimate TOR stuff.
