****official Iowa St vs Iowa game thread****

Though very happy with the win....this game should be discontinued. The powers-that-be should strive to work the best teams possible into the schedule. Playing Iowa State does nothing for the Iowa recruiting package OR the Iowa State recruiting package.

Considering the injuries today makes this game even more meaningless.

IOWA needs to schedule the best teams possible to find success.

This is where the Iowa fan base is losing interest....there are fewer games of interest since Jim Delany screwed the pooch and took the tradition of the BIG 10 conference out of the equation.

Bring in a LSU, or Notre Dame, or Texas, or USC once or twice.....that would change the entire complexion of the program. It also gives us a chance to travel to the best venues in sports and a chance to be seen. I know these teams have no interest in playing IOWA because they have no benefit in recruiting in IOWA. If it takes money to play them, pay them, or this program is dead.

Right now it is very stale and finding it's way to the bottom of the heap that is the B1G.

If you don't wait till 1 second is left, that would kind of give it away. I kind of like the call. Almost worked. Anyway, it's our own fault for cheering for the fake last week.
I think cheering the fake fg last week by the fans was sarcasm, but KF took it as a confidence builder for himself.

Id rather get rid of the ill st and north Texas games than this one.

IOWA has much better chances in recruiting the north Texas and northern Illinois areas. The Dallas-Fort Worth area alone has over twice the population of the entire state of Iowa. Scheduling Illinois State brings in a Chicago-land element which is good, but nothing compared to north Texas.

Competing with Iowa State serves no purpose.

Pay the money to play the best.

No. I'm happy with the schedule as is, minus the fcs game. But if I had a choice between isu or north texas, I'm taking a game against isu ten out of ten times. Fcs games are pointless.

Wouldn't be able to get 7 home games, if in that scenario, we took out an FCS, instead of ISU, and add a decent/good team.

Id rather play Notre Dame than Illinois St, or Northern Illinois in Chicago, etc etc. I'm not saying it is feasible, just what I would prefer.

Stop right there, before you hurt yourself.

Nebraska count? Last November if so.
I was thinking "out of conference scheduling" and thanks for the response.

Here's the way the top 25 worked out in the Coaches Poll....IOWA isn't even on the map.

This is just the "others receiving votes" list.

If you don't challenge yourself....you'll find yourself off the map.

Others Receiving Votes: Mississippi State (1-1) 97; Arizona State (1-1) 66; Oklahoma State (2-0) 52; Northwestern (2-0) 35; Kansas State (2-0) 23; Brigham Young (2-0) 23; South Carolina (1-1) 22; Duke (2-0) 15; West Virginia (2-0) 13; Miami (Fla.) (2-0) 12; Florida (2-0) 7; Louisville (0-2) 6; Marshall (1-1) 6; Minnesota (1-1) 5; NC State (2-0) 4; Maryland (1-1) 3; Temple (2-0) 3; Nebraska (1-1) 3; Pittsburgh (2-0) 2; Illinois (2-0) 2; Louisiana Tech (1-1) 1; California (2-0) 1; Stanford (1-1) 1; Memphis (2-0) 1

As the old lottery saying goes...."You can't win if you don't play. "

Iowa is probably ranked at about 10th or 11th of the 14 teams in the B1G.

This athletic department doesn't have a clue.

Floyd, the practice of scheduling isn't as simple as you think. Get some perspective. It is done years in advance and not a one way street. In the past, we have had great home and aways with p5 schools. It is a balance and one you clearly haven't a clue about.

Because we know Illinois has certainly challenged themselves with their schedule so far and Maryland just got destroyed by Bowling Green. Polls at this time of the year are meaningless. Get a grip.

I have no idea where that side-shot came from Mark. No matter how many years it takes; the IOWA AD MUST keep a top program on the schedule or IOWA will not stand a chance in recruiting players. The program is in a nosedive as far as visibility on a national level.

Even when you lose playing the best....you are at least on a stage.

How many kids want to come to IOWA when they won't even be seen playing on TV in their home State?

Iowa's recruiting sucks and it will only get worse until we give the recruits a challenge and quit with the cowardly scheduling. If you can tell a recruit that he or she will be playing against an Alabama or a Texas or a USC or an LSU...immediate gamechanger

My only problem is....I don't think the IOWA athletic department gets the idea and most IOWA fans don't either. Including you.

A weak schedule is great for the win column but slowly erodes the program.

Off the map.

Well why don't you enlighten us about the dynamic of scheduling instead of just telling someone they are clueless?

Polls are the only chance you have of getting your team planted in front of a national audience consistently. If a team disappears from the polls; they disappear from the TV screen and in-turn they do not exist to a recruit.

This is marketing 101

Disagree. Nothing more fun than knowing you can throw out the stats because this game is all about PASSION AND PRIDE. JMO, but I think people want to get rid of this game because of Kirk's struggles. I certainly wasn't hearing people complain about the matchup when Hayden was on his 15 game win streak.

Sell that to a recruit Joel. The game is all about marketing now. The game has changed.

Recruits want to be on TV. Nobody outside the State of Iowa will watch this game ever....it benefits neither team.

I was in Dallas TX last weekend and the BTN does not exist on the major cable channels. Delaney screwed the pooch and there's no turning back.

The only alternative now is to re-create how we sell the program to a recruit.

Since I'm not in charge of scheduling I'll leave it up to you to force the issue with those in power. Remember, there are two magic words to keep you motivated in the fight, "Hope" and "Change".;)

You guys think it's as easy as just calling up usc or Florida state and saying, let's play? Much like many of us bitch about playing the clowns because we get nothing out of it, is exactly why we can't/won't get that dream schedule many crave. Furthermore, you have exactly zero proof that playing dream teams would make Iowa more marketable for recruiting. With that said, why we don't do whatever is necessary to play teams from Texas and Florida makes no sense. I would support that 100% because we recruit those areas. Playing a Oregon or Boise or Usc or even the Arizona schools get us nothing in regards to recruits. These days, exposure is over rated. Every game is TV accessible. Our recruiting will only improve when it becomes a priority to Iowa.

It's not rocket science. As pointed out, it's marketing 101. Simple supply and demand. We do not offer enough in the deal to entice the big name school. Plus, they could very well lose. This is the biggest reason why. That's why I was hopeful when it was announced a few years ago a deal with pac 10......then Delaney fudged it up.

I for one have always been confused by the notion that the only way Iowa can play "name" teams is by getting rid of Iowa State? Someone explain to me why Iowa needs to get rid of Iowa State while still playing a DIRECTIONAL SCHOOL in the non-con every year?

Game was on Fox out here North of Seattle.

I disagree. Marketing 101 involves getting yourself in front of an audience. Playing Iowa State does not get us in front of an audience outside of the State of Iowa. Playing Illinois State can't even be found on TV outside of a small audience.

The ONLY way to market the program now.....is to SCHEDULE the BEST or fall under the bus.

Thanks, that was way more informative than telling someone they are clueless. I for one was not complaining about scheduling, I just think that someone should explain instead of condemning someone as clueless.

That is one way to view it. I would tend to agree, we are not pulling recruits from Idaho, Oregon, or California so why play those schools. I think that Florida is fertile ground and playing a FIU, Central Florida, South Florida, Florida Atlantic, etc... could pay dividends based on your explanation.

Do you think a person from Michigan State dialed up a person from Oregon at some point?

Surely somebody from Ohio State called somebody from Virginia Tech.

Pretty sure someone from Maryland talked to someone from West Virginia

Somebody must have talked between Chapel Hill, NC and Champaign, Illinois

Apparently there was a discussion between Northwestern and Stanford and Duke

Minnesota must have seen the radar. TCU is no easy venue; but this puts Minnesota on the map.

Nebraska has BYU at home and travels to Miami (FL) for match-ups this year, and a home game with South Alabama. Somebody looking ahead?

Even Purdue has Virginia Tech and Bowling Green on the schedule.

Wisconsin tried to play Alabama and did not fare so well....but they had an audience

When were all those games scheduled? I doubt it happened last year or even two years ago. Could be wrong, but I doubt it.
