Once revenue sharing is put in place with the NIL landscape, I think you will see several programs drop. Athletic departments are already making budget cuts to get ready for it. I would assume that maybe some people realize it at ASU. Hate to see it.
From my understanding the revenue sharing case if won will require the TV networks to share their profits with the players.

Television networks have contracts with the conferences. That revenue is split up amongst member schools. That goes into their budget. Each conference and member school has an individual budget and will be responsible to pay damages and then budget to pay players going forward if they become “employees” as some suggest will happen. Lot to shake our yet, but as suggested by your linked article, some ADs are already making budget cuts to get ready for it.

Most depts at most universities could use a hair trim. A buzz cut is more like it. When I was in school back in the early 80's at PSU, I worked in the admissions office. They would restock the brochures in May with pallets that would go into storage. In July the new brochures would come out and we had to throw away all the old brochures that came in May. All in the name of, "if you don't spend the budgeted money, they take it away". New furniture every year too. I will never cry that universities are having to face what all of us do every day.

The U of Oregon appears to have more money than they know what to do with here in Eugene.

But that "buzz cut" won't be fair, logical, or even appropriate. It will follow the money. They'll still have those pallets of unused brochures and barely-used office furniture, but the star basketball center or football quarterback will have valet parking, catered meals, and new cars. And there will be no wrestling. They'll say that they can't afford it. And that goes especially for the "sacred" athletic programs at Power Five schools.

What would a Texas A&M alum spend to makes sure that their alma mater stays competitive with Texas? They'll spend the farm, making sure that no "extra" sports ever get added (like wrestling, etc.) Wrestling is likely safe at Iowa and PSU, but how about Indiana, Oregon State, or even Missouri?

Sounds like how most government entities approach being Stuarts of our tax money.

I would not be shocked if ASU cuts wrestling in the near future. Maybe I am wrong but with no more Sunkist any more I could see them fold.

It isn’t crazy at all. Remember, they have done it before. And when they did, the Sunkist guy was a major contributor to saving the program.

If the Sunkist days are over, without a strong entity to fill that void, it won’t be long until the Sun Devil days are as well. The massive revenue disparity between the B12 and B10 will also not be helpful here.

It’s really just a matter of time.

Has anyone heard why Sunkist is closing shop? They’ve had a long and successful tenure.

ASU will be fine. They have another "martori" ready to step up. Can't use the name Sunkist, so that IS actually dead, but they will have a well-funded RTC up soon.

The guys entering the portal (Schultz is now, NOT in) is specifically money. ASU doesn't have a ton of NIL and Parco thought a bag would be waiting for him if he entered. But who really needs to pay for 8-12 points? For ONE year. He seriously over-estimated his worth. and now there's nothing for him until Alirez makes his decision.

This is why everyone needs to relax on the "NIL IS THE END" rhetoric. It's not. The market always corrects itself. Value is value and no one will beat or break the market.

This assumes that individuals are rational. They aren't. Truax being offered 6 figures and Starocci being offered (allegedly) 7 figures (for a single season) isn't exactly rationale. All it takes is a few crazy rich guys to completely upend the competitive integrity and fairness of the sport. It's also far from a free market. There's significant information asymmetry.

It is sad that universities have bloated bureaucracies that have the end goal of preserving that bureaucracy without regard to anything else. I guarantee that every Iowa fan on this forum, and every PSU fan on our forum, would make better decisions for the good of our university than these pencil necks. I abhor wastefulness. Millions are spent at universities on absolutely nothing.

I worked at a deli once in college. We had a contract a couple times to provide a luncheon for the Chancellors wife luncheon. All these old biddies talked about was their grandchildren and upcoming vacations. Zero university business discussed yet PSU paid thousands in 1984 dollars to host it. Every week I believe. I paid my way through college so I was more than pissed that my tuition money paid for that shit. I may be hard core Penn State but I know the game my university plays is no different than anywhere else.

I'm not that high on Cannon
A truly healthy Cannon is a legit mid to upper AA candidate at 133. That is a big step up from what Iowa has now.

At 141, I am not sure what you would get. But, 141 is probably the biggest question mark in the lineup right now if they don't get Alirez or if he goes 149, even if they do get him.

Either way, I think he is absolutely worth trying hard to bring in...

He was struggling trying to make 133 before. Low AA is probably the ceiling at 141, granted it's better than what Tom has lined up if Block can't make the weight but certainly not worth a big check for what you are getting.

I do get what you are saying. That is all true, but the buzz cut you want won't touch that crap. What is waste to you and to me is pocket change for college administrators. Like corporate management, it's built into their culture.

My question still remains...why hasn't Brands made any changes to the staff?

Telford brings nothing and Morningstar's style has already infected the room.
Tom’s loyalty is his downfall. His coaching staff, the hwc. Telford and Mstar could and should be replaced by non Hawk graduates, unless it’s SL. I don’t see any other hawk grads having a pull to bring guys in.
