Omaha Biliew

We get out-recruited by the Cedar Rapids YMCA D League. We pretty much go after the same players. Our b-ball recruiting has been 90% shit for decades with most fans making excuses as to why we can’t consistently attract top talent. They have been just that: EXCUSES not reasons. There are ZERO reasons why a Big Ten team offers most of the kids we have over the past 30 years. We would be middle of the pack in the MAC most years.
Roy, You are a bone head. You can't possibly be a Iowa fan. Please take a hike.

Honestly good for them. If as good as advertised he's a one and done player.
ISU will fall short of any real accomplishment just like the Hawks in hoops. I'm done with bashing ISU. I would much rather focus my insults on Nebby. Anyone with half a brain knows ISU has historically been our b!tch. Let them have their shining moment on the recruiting trail....

I'm not really looking to pick a fight here, but not one of the guys you named would have been a lock to be in the top 25 national recruits for any given year. Maybe Ed Horton or Michael Payne. Excellent players absolutely. But top 25 and higher you are talking about one and done types before their freshman year starts. How good they ended up is not relative in the discussion And yes, I know Davis ended up being one of those.

Every single one of those I mentioned would have been near top 25....which is what I said. The two I did find rankings for one had a high of 32 and one had a high of 35 (Horner).

Lorenzen would have probably been top 10 if we can find recruiting ranking from back then.

Do not see anyway Marble would not have been top 25.

The rest would have been very close.

They’ll be really interesting to follow going forward. According to Torvik, they’re the most experienced Power 6 team next year.

I wish I watched them more than I did last year. It's still hard for me to put aside that last year was a 180 degree turn in TJ's statistical coaching trends. But that can be a good sign of the flexibility you'll need when you're overturning a roster consistently in the portal. It'll be fun to keep up more.

Lorenzen was considered a top 5 player by just about everyone when he was in high school.

Hate to say it but Hawk basketball has become a distant third in my pecking order. Football and wrestling are the only two that really matter to me anymore. Too many letdowns and crushed hopes with hoops. My blood pressure can't take any more of Fran McCaffrey.
Yep never mind the big ten tourney champs just a fluke i guess

Actually what you said was top 25 or higher and that is why I responded in the way I did.

That’s just a total backhanded compliment. Not sure what you mean by any real accomplishment. They made the sweet 16 last year. That’s a damn good accomplishment w/the roster they had. And they destroyed us last year. Not sure why it’s so hard to give credit where credit is due. And Fran has never made it.

I am very curious as to what period of time you are using to make this assessment.

I said let ‘em enjoy their shining moment. I admit they’ve been better in hoops recently. But in the sports that truly matter to me personally , FB and wrestling , ISU has been our b!tch. The wash , rinse , repeat of the FM era has definitely took its toll on my passion for Iowa hoops…

Pierre Pierce would probably have been one :(

Horton, Marble, Settles, Lorenzen, Davis, Horner, Stokes, Payne ... all would have been right around that 25 mark if not higher in the 80s/90s.

Jeff Horner would have been pretty high.

Oh yea - Kenyon Murray would have been around the top 25.

Actually what you said was top 25 or higher and that is why I responded in the way I did.

Pretty sure I said right around the top 25...or higher.

Will stick to that.. around the top 25 or higher.

You can come back and say...well one was only 35th at best...and I will live with that is around top 25.

In recruiting “higher” would be less than 25. A “lower” rated recruit would be 26-100.

I didn’t think he was even going to college. ISU?

He has never averaged more than 10.6ppg in a HS season.... In fact, this 5-star player did NOT even start on his HS team last year!?! Maybe He will playing with the lesser Waukee team thus year...

Serious question, has there ever been a 5-star player that didn't start for their HS team???

He started for MoKan and was quite possibly their best player at the Peach Jam. But go ahead.

Lucky for the Clones another of their recruits who may also very well end up a 5 star recruit is considered one of the best scorers in the 2023 class. Suppose they will let Omaha play defense, rebound and crash the offensive boards while his offensive game develops. They will run the offense through Milan Momcilovic.

Understand you weren’t dissing on the kid and see your point. However, I don’t think it’s unfair at all to mention Kris as probable top 15 pick. It’s obviously early but some mock drafts have him in this range next year. Everything I’ve heard is that he’s just as good as Keegan. NBA is about potential and Kris has it. I certainly won’t bet against it.
I'd just like to point out if Kris is as good as the number 4 pick in the draft, that Fran is an idiot for not playing him more.

It's not wrong, it's just meaningless, unless you think that's more valuable than basically every scout from NBA scouts to college coaches to rankings services.
Ok, so it is meaningless because isu fans say so, got it. Thank god we have clown fans here to tell us what matters, what is meaningful and what doesn’t count and is meaningless. The clown fan view of “reality” sure is a fascinating one.

What is next isu will be a member of the Big Ten? Oh right that was the delusional reality from clown fans last year.

No, it's meaningless because every recruiting service, every college coach, and every NBA scout who gave him rave reviews last weekend says it is.

No I get it. Kris and Keagan Murray don’t count but Omaha does because clown fans say so.

With the way clown fans went on and on and on and on about the Murray twins you can see why Iowa fans might take your talent evaluations with a tiny tiny grain of salt.

They ended up being awesome, but their profile as recruits was nothing to write home about. I could pull up the thread on this very board where there were plenty of Hawk fans trashing Fran for recruiting them. Anybody who felt that was was proven wrong, I probably said something too and I was wrong. It happens.

Also, it's not my talent evaluation. I'm guessing most ISU fans haven't seen him play. It's the professionals, who again, can be wrong that are grading him as highly as they are.

and the NBA took Murray #4 so the clown fan evaluation was way off again.

ISU has been killing it in recruiting since Otzelberger took over.

Begs the question, what have they been doing to incentivize these players coming to Ames?

Yeah, believe it or not, it doesn’t take me 30 minutes to go from an ISU board to an Iowa one. This isn’t the dial up days anymore, mr. 1980.
That REALLY doesn't explain why you'd be here at all though does it? Just because I can go there quickly. I feel very confident that when we got commitments from 5 stars XN last year, and Proctor this year that there wasn't a rush of Iowa fans to Cy fan or whatever your craptastic board is, (Sorry I've never visited your site, and don't plan to), to see what the clown reaction was to those commitments. I mean frankly nobody year cares what you guys think, so........

I know there is always a shady side to recruiting, but with NIL now it seems less necessary although I am not sure of all the facts, so who knows. Perhaps TJ is a young, energetic, charismatic coach, who works hard and connects well with young players and they want to play for him. I think most of these kids are really focused on basketball and don't care all that much about the city etc, as long as they like the coach and his philosophy. Not every player out there is just after money. I don't come here often and comment less, but do enjoy reading the views of many Hawk fans. However, I wish it wasn't (and this happens on both sides) that when a high-level recruit is signed it seems to bring out the view that something shady went on or the kid is not a good person, or not that talented and we didn't want him. I am jealous of Iowa's ability to recruit and develop Offensive line players in football, I think Fran, although somewhat portal-phobic, does a good job identifying talent and produces a high level offense. As a rival fan, I do enjoy seeing his red-faced eruptions occasionally LOL. Kirk is way to calm to be much fun. Carry on!
