PBP tonight?

184 lbs.

#11 Dakota Gear for OSU vs. Abe Assad.

They have not faced each other.

Toss up match. Won't be high scoring.

Ironside doesn't appreciate the pro-Okie PA announcer, who downplays each Iowa intro.

Abe gave up his ankle. Had a TD but gave up his ankle. Can't give up your ankle. Ah shoot, we're gonna get taken down. And do.

0-2 OSU.

:30 left in first period.

Gear putting on a tough ride. He knows it's key to getting points.

Abe staying at his base.

Dang it. Abe missed a sure TD wth a great move.

End of 1st period.

0-2 Abe trailes.

Geer chose down and escapes, then drops in on a shot for TD when Abe gets caught reaching.

Abe has to learn how to get out. Can't score any points if you're on the bottom. Cmon Abe, keep wrestling here.

:45 left in 2nd period.

Abe gets called for a deserved stall warning. Abe is gonna gets majored if he's not careful. Cmon Abe Assad, start working for yourself.

End of 2 period. 0-5 Geer leads.

Abe starts down to begin the third period.

He has a stall calling already and needs to push back, come back into him.

Instead Abe is flattened out again. Stall call against Abe. Then escapes.

Geer circling now Abe needs to circle. Geer has our ankle again. Abe trying to break grip and stay square, but Geer drops down for TD.

Abe has something to work on when we get back to Iowa City.

Kicks out for late escape and 2-9 loss. That was big not to give up an extra team point with that late escape.

Geer wins

Gavin Stecka for OSU.vs. Jacob Warner.

Iowa leads 15-9

OSU starter Ferrari it out with car wreck injdures and this makes a huge difference in the team outcome. It's a chance for Jacob Warner to walk away with a solid victory.

Snaps into a near TD, great chain wrestling but ran out of real estate and went OOB.

No score.

Short drag off to the side with the right angle, stays square with the guy and gets the TD. Nice job.

Goes cross face, tilt back to other side, but OOB.

Warner leads 2-0

Stecka explodes up, but Jacob puts him down and rides him out. Plus a stall call.

Warner starts down to begin 2nd period.

Gets right up to his feet, escapes, tries some drags and underhooks, really looks good there. Snaps, swipes at the leg once more, then easy go behigd TD for Watner. Brands says cut him immediately. 5-1 lead for Warner.

Stall call against OSU. 6-1 lead.

Warner keeps a left hand collar ties on hard. Stuffs the head, tries a drag, but couldn't get before OOB. Don't let this clock go free without a TD.

End of 2nd period. 6-1 lead for Warner.
Plus 1:04 RT

Warner and Terry Brands are laughing about whether to cut the Okie to beging the 3rd. period.

Warner chooses to ride him for :20 then lets him go.

Goes back to the other side and gets a quick TD.

Tom Brands says cut him and go.

8-3 lead for Warner plus RT.

Under a minute to go.

Ironside says we need a TD.

Tries a throw by.

Slips into a headlock, drops down, drives and finishes for TD with :06 left.

Warner smacks his fist into his palm.

Wins 11-3.

Iowa leads 19-9

HWT match.

Tony Cassioppi vs. Luke Server. soph with 8-6 record.

You can hear the Ric Flair "woos" in the crowd. Our Iowa fans are something else.

Cass looking for snatch attempt, gets a body lock, now we've got to see something here. OSU drops into our ankle. Tony almost gets caught in neutral danger position on the edge. Tony relaxed on the edge and wasted a good opportunity. John Smith asks for a challenge.

Ironside says don't drag this out any more. But that's why you don't give up your leg. That is how you get injured. You gotta stay on high alert. He relaxed.

These guys can't see the replay.

Wondering if a third party hasn't been called in to review.

After all that, no points were awarded to either wrestler.

That should wake up Tony.

Tony gets a snatch, elevates, tries to suck the leg in, but Okie hanging onto our ankle. Server is long and lanky. He's not taking a back seat to Tony., Two early attacks and Server handled it well. He's a lighter weight.

Tony hits a beautiful snap into a hip and gets TD. Really good wrestling.

Great pop and life. Found and angle and popped him.

Love to see Tony get a fall here. Big exclamation point.

End of one period Tony lead 2-0.

Server chooses down to start 2nd period.

Tony rides him with a wrist, trying to get it up being his back.

Tony could improve if he learns to move and jump from side to side.

Server hit with stall call.

Cross face into a near arm, then the wrist. Trying to use the knee to scoop the head, pinching the head, but staying on the same side time after time.

Tony rides him out to end the 2nd period.

Leads 2-0 with RT.

Tony starts 3rd period down and escapes quickly.

Tony keeps getting the leg with his snaps but can't follow through with it.

Server is just running away.

Tony finally stuffs the head and gets the TD.

Server won't stand up to wrestle.

Leading 5-1.

Ironside wants a stall call and finally gets it. Just need one TD for a major.

There ya go Tony!. Circles around and covers for TD.

Wions 9-1.

Iowa wins 20-9.

Hope you've enjoyed the coverage tonight, courtesy of KXIC Radio and Steven Grace and Mark Ironside.

My hands and neck feel like I've been wrassling somebody and need to rest.

This was Ybarra's best match of his career; still a loss but showing marked improvement. But sure hoping we see Ayala from here on out.

ADS just not as good as the top 2.

Eierman left some points on the board, as always, but an easy win.

Nice match by Murin against 1st or 2nd round-type oppponent.

Ditto Young.

Nice start by Marinelli--beautiful first-period TD--but then he played right into that guy's strategy, which is everyone's strategy against Marinelli: keep it close and try to get a TD in the last :30. A good win nonetheless.

Kem never challenged by #10 guy. So good on top.

Assad looked absolutely horrid. He's just not improving, and that's a big concern.

Warner with a rare major.

Cass scaring me there a bit.

Hawks looking competitive, and a lot of wrestling left in the next 5 weeks.

No nearfall points by either team tonight.

Pretty much covers it. Thought OSU wrestled not to give up bonus, Ybarra needs to get mentally tougher in the last minute of matches. He has the goods but its the difference between being good in practice and being able to translate that out on the mat. He is a small 125 who can't ride bigger guys.

Terrible showing by Assad. Truly pathetic match.
Those are the matches he needs to at least be competitive in if he wants to sniff the podium.

Shit. Might as well have stayed in IC for the weekend.
Easy Fist. I think he looked decent but tentative. He needs to build confidence. Never wrestling decent guys will prevent that. He didn't lose to America's best, but he got a good feel and he's got Terry in his ear. I think Abe will be a guy we expect less of than originally thought but he will have a tourney surprise or 2 that will get needed points and really leverage his next step in mat maturity.
