We also need to talk about mental health. More and more institutes are closing, and this could have been prevented if he had access to talk to someone first. No one just wakes up at 64 wanting to kill people. This probably built up and finally exploded.

I would say that another thing mass shooters share, and it transcends ideology, politics, religion and mental illness, is a penis. I'm not making light of the situation, and I know there are exceptions, but how often do you hear "the gun woman had recently been fired from her job"? Or "the gun woman who opened fire in the movie theater had a history of mental illness"?

It's not like women aren't capable of violence/murder,but I honestly can say when I hear of a mass shooting I never think "I wonder if it was a man or woman?". The only one I can think of was that Muslim couple in CA? Deep thoughts(or just thoughts) by Hawkchick.

It's a societal problem. Especially with the emergence of the internet and social media in today's wild, wild world. There's a lot of hate/anger and violent rhetoric out there. I guess we'll know more as the smoke clears but this dude definitely had issues and a motive.

It goes much deeper than that. Both sides get at some core truths: the right is right when pointing out it's a mental health issue and ultimately it takes someone pulling the trigger. Yet they are the same scumbags eliminating the type of programs that make mental health opprtunities available. The left has a point about the prevalence of guns in this country. We are addicted. But how does one eliminate the type of weapon that can kill 50 people in seconds? And will it really keep these out of people's hands? Will anyone start showing common sense about the types of weapons that should be available? Are we past the point of no return? The gun/murder industry and the NRA certainly have the GOP on their knees servicing them. BUT there's even more to it than that. We need an "all in" approach on the causes, yet no one wants to listen.

There, you asked for my view. Most importantly, think about these families foremost today.

I would like to have a rational discussion on this.

1) What is your expertise in the mental health field?
2) What makes you say this shooter was mentally ill?

And I would BEG you to research the facts behind mass shootings and how many actually involve persons with mental illness. In this case the facts appear (early, we will see) to be that we have a 64 year old with nothing more than a speeding ticket in his life. Do you think that sounds like a person with a mental illness?

Or, do you believe that people just need another group of people as scapegoats when something bad happens? It can't be that this guy just became enraged over something? So no "well headed" people have ever committed murder?

That appears to be your stance. Please research the real facts about mental illness and violence.
